Han Yu took a deep breath and sat cross-legged, focusing his mind.
Carefully, he directed a thin thread of Qi into the ring. At first, nothing happened. The surface of the ring remained inert, its runes dim and cold.

But before despair could take hold, a pulse of energy rippled through his hand. The runes on the ring flared to life, glowing with a bright silver light. He felt it then, a faint sense of acknowledgment, as if the ring were recognizing him.
It opened.
Han Yu exhaled in disbelief. "It worked…"
He could sense the spatial space within, vast and filled with items. That could only mean one thing. The ring had identified him as its rightful owner.
"Did I… copy his Qi signature too?" he wondered aloud.
That was the only explanation. Somehow, through the mysterious process of his rebirth, the Undying Life Charm had not only given him the man's face and body but his spiritual imprint as well.
