Chapter 469 - Chapter 469: A Shared History

Carl took the wine Whitebeard handed him and tasted it slowly. Seeing the smug look on Carl's face, Whitebeard felt a sudden urge to beat the bastard up. Jinbei looked dazed, asking, "Brother Luffy, the Koala you are talking about is..."

Usopp reacted first: "That's right! Jinbei, Koala is the young human girl who was rescued by your Sun Pirates back then! She joined the Revolutionary Army!"

"That's right Jinbei, we are talking about that Koala!" The Straw Hat crew echoed one after another. Everyone recalled the story of Fisher Tiger that Carl had told them previously, feeling emotional about Jinbei's history as the captain of the Sun Pirates.

Jinbei was even more confused: "Why do you know about this?"

The Straw Hat crew looked at Carl. Carl shrugged and said, "I told everyone a story about Fisher Tiger. As for why I knew it, that is, of course, a secret. I can only tell you that I have no malicious intentions."

Ace grew curious: "What are you talking about?" Jinbei sighed deeply and slowly recounted the story of Fisher Tiger. Although he had a good relationship with the Whitebeard crew, this matter was rarely mentioned, and it was the first time Whitebeard had heard the details. The Whitebeard crew felt moved, and Sabo, who knew something about Koala, realized the heroism behind Fisher Tiger's death.

"Jinbei, Koala did not betray you back then. It was the villagers on that island who informed the Marines. She has always felt guilty about this, and she even worshiped the murloc Haku as her teacher. Now, she is the acting instructor of Murloc Karate!" Sabo said, looking solemnly into Jinbei's eyes. Jinbei's eyes turned red, but a smile appeared on his face. "That is right, Boss Tiger is watching, he will be very pleased!"

The banquet reached its climax with dancing. Brook switched his violin for an electric guitar, and Jango performed his signature dance moves. Zango's performance in the recent battle was excellent, earning the respect of the Whitebeard Pirates. Many captains joined Jango, and eventually, even Luffy jumped in, performing an awkward dance with chopsticks in his nose. Whitebeard laughed heartily: "Koo la la la! The dance of your Straw Hat Pirates is the second best in the whole sea. No one dares to be the first. The Whitebeard Pirates are willing to bow down!"

Carl retorted, "It must be! But I think the Whitebeard Pirates are also talented at dancing. As long as you learn from us, you might reach the top ten!"

The banquet was a success, and as the wine ran out, many people fell asleep. Whitebeard sat by the fire, reflecting on his life with a sense of nostalgia. Carl noticed this: "Uncle Whitebeard, why so somber? Chopper and Law have examined you; you still have a few years left. You can wait until Ace gets married and has children, and you can be a grandfather for a few years before you go."

"You underestimate me, little monster," Whitebeard smiled softly. "Even though I have been ill, I have never thought of giving up. During the Summit War, I considered staying there forever, but now that I have returned alive, I will watch over my children until I die!"

"You are right to think so. As long as you are here, no one will dare to bully your children. But you must let Marco grow up before you leave, or else they will still be bullied!" Carl noted.

"Koo la la la! That is true; the strength of captains like Marco is still stretched thin!" Whitebeard admitted. Carl stayed silent, pouring Whitebeard some sobering soup. After a long silence, Whitebeard looked at Carl: "Carl boy, after I die, can you..."

"Cannot!" Carl interrupted, rolling his eyes. "Uncle, if you are that worried, try to live two more years! Train Marco, Ace, and the others. Why are you trying to entrust them to another pirate group?" Carl continued, "Look at Luffy. If something happens to Ace, will he stand by? And Sabo will not watch Ace face danger alone, either!"

Whitebeard smiled reassuringly: "Koo la la la, yes, Ace has two good brothers!" Though Carl did not explicitly offer to protect them, his meaning was clear: the Straw Hats and the Revolutionary Army would not stand idly by if the Whitebeard Pirates faced trouble.

The next morning, Carl woke up to find Robin sleeping nearby. Using his Observation Haki, he realized that many of the skilled swordsmen from both crews—Zoro, Law, Tashigi, Brook, Vista, and others—had gone to a nearby island for a sparring match. As a swordsman himself, Carl decided to go and watch.
