Chapter 74 - Chapter 74: The Characteristics of the Life-Taking Curse Are Activated, Killing Intent Burns the Sky!

[Message]: You have completed the refinement task of Avada Kedavra!

[News]: You have activated the new feature of Avada Kedavra—Burning Heaven!

"You have finally completed it!"

Dylan smiled.

He hadn't expected to complete Avada Kedavra's refinement task so easily. It seemed that this refinement task wasn't difficult at all!

Curious, Dylan checked out the new feature of the Killing Curse.

[Slaughter and Burning Heaven]

When you use the Killing Curse, this feature allows you to independently activate or deactivate a circular destruction field centered on yourself, with a radius of four meters and a duration of four seconds.

Within this field, the energy of Avada Kedavra permeates, attacking all living creatures inside. After one second, they slow down. After two seconds, they become paralyzed. After three seconds, they die.[Note]: Want to use a mirror to block my Avada? Try this—Avada Kedavra hug!

"A field? That's insane!"

Dylan swallowed hard, staring at the newly unlocked feature.

Even though he had already mastered Avada Kedavra, it didn't mean he could kill others if he missed the spell. But now, the system was afraid he couldn't defeat his enemies with Avada Kedavra, so it just handed him an Avada Kedavra field?

Anyone who enters will die?

"Four meters isn't huge, but it's not small either. It's kind of tricky," Dylan muttered.

In a small space, like a room, this ability would be incredibly useful. But in an open battlefield, he would have to get close to his enemy, which increased risk.

"Plus, the domain only lasts for four seconds. Unlike getting hit by Avada Kedavra directly, enemies inside don't die instantly—they have to stay in my field for three seconds before they drop dead."

Dylan frowned before shaking his head.

"Well, it's just residual energy from Avada Kedavra. If an enemy has no way to escape, even if they stay in my field for only one or two seconds before running, I can chase them down and finish them off."

With their slowed reaction time or paralysis, he could just cast another Avada Kedavra and end them.

Overall, this feature was incredibly useful—it expanded Dylan's attack methods and became one of his trump cards.

"Haha, imagine—who would expect a first-year wizard not only to use the Unforgivable Curse but also to have a deadly aura around him?"

This ability was perfect for ambushes.

Dylan was very satisfied. It was worth wandering around the Forbidden Forest in the freezing cold just for this.

He looked down at the corpse of the Acromantula before him.

Dylan thanked it.

This giant spider had not only provided him with materials but also unlocked Avada Kedavra's new ability for him.

"I'll forgive you for attacking me."

Dylan lifted his wand, and a pink, furry rabbit wrapped in fierce fire leaped from the void, landing on the giant spider's body.

The pink flames were beautiful as they devoured the spider bit by bit.

In the end, not even a trace of embers remained.

Watching the massive creature turn to ash, Dylan felt a strange sensation rising in his chest—a tingling numbness, like electric currents running through his blood and nerves.

"The Unforgivable Curses truly live up to their name," Dylan muttered.

There were many ways to kill a creature—Explosion SpellsDisintegration SpellsFiendfyreBut these could be resisted.

However, Avada Kedavra had no counter.

A single flash of green light, and a life was snuffed out—no screams, no struggle.

Death was so effortless, it was terrifying.

"It makes you realize how fragile life truly is."

Thankfully, Dylan was immune to the negative psychological effects of Dark Magic.

"As long as I remember that I'm just studying spells and using the Unforgivable Curses as tools, I won't turn into some mindless killer like Voldemort."

Dylan studied magic not for destruction, but to ensure he would never become a pawn—to make sure he would never die easily, like so many had in the original story.

If he wanted to achieve his goals, he needed to be strong enough—so strong that even Voldemort would have to respect him.

And besides, Dylan also researched magic's relationship with immortality—so that his adoptive parents could live longer and Voldemort wouldn't have to kill so many people.

"Maybe one day, after I master magic, I can even travel to other worlds."

After all, he himself was a traveler, wasn't he?

That was another reason he was so obsessed with magic.

If he could one day explore other realms, then all this hard work would be worth it.

Dylan checked the time and looked toward the depths of the Forbidden Forest.

But instead of going deeper, he turned around and left.

The curfew hadn't ended yet.

After returning to the dormitory, he washed up, got into bed, and fell asleep hugging Coal Ball, who was waiting for him.

The Next Morning

Dylan was woken up by Harry.

"Unbelievable, Dylan! You slept in today?" Ron stood beside Harry, looking surprised.

Dylan rubbed his eyes. "Yeah, I was really tired."

How could he not be?

He had spent all night in the Forbidden Forest, gathering rare herbs and harvesting magical materials.

And even though he only slept for two hours, he still had a nightmare!

In the dream, he was chased by a swarm of giant spiders, forcing him to fire off a hundred Avada Kedavras, almost turning the spell into chain lightning.

"A horrible nightmare," Dylan muttered.

He climbed out of bed and started getting ready.

Harry and Ron had already packed up, but before leaving, they saw that Dylan was still sleeping, so they had come to wake him.

Dylan bent down and patted Coal Ball on the head.

"Be good. I'll be back in the evening."

Coal Ball twitched its lynx-like ears and rubbed its furry cheek against Dylan's palm.

"Moo!"

Dylan smiled, shaking off his exhaustion. He felt instantly awake.

He grabbed his small schoolbag, turned, and followed Harry and Ron to breakfast.
