Raine sat in front of her vanity mirror, staring blankly at her reflection. Scarlet stains appeared on her cheeks.
It was a humiliating, deflated feeling.
"Why would you cry in front of that asshole? To his chest, even?" she berated herself, beating her chest as streaks of tears fell gracefully down her cheeks.
"I fucking bawled. Drenched his clothes. Oh, motherfucking gods. What have I done?"
Raine couldn't believe she had let that happen. Thinking of the day's events made her wish the ground would open and swallow her whole.
She replayed the words, her actions, and his reactions—everything—like a haunting melody, and it made her want to fucking crawl out of her own skin.
Cole's reaction was even more embarrassing... and unexpected. He had wrapped his arms around her and patted her back gently like a baby, making her heart flutter a bit.
The sincerity in his voice when he apologized was even more agonizing.
