Chapter 178 - Chapter 176 – The Death of Riddle!

On the first day, Lucius Malfoy arrived at Hogwarts. He brought with him a collective decision from the school board to suspend Dumbledore from his position as Headmaster. They claimed he had failed to protect the students and the school.

Who knows how much effort Lucius had to put in to convince the board—after all, they trusted Dumbledore deeply.

Meanwhile, Harry made a trip to the United States.

In Steve Jobs' office.

Harry held something that resembled a mobile phone. He didn't need Jobs to explain anything—he instinctively understood how to use it.

As long as it had a video-recording function, Harry was satisfied.

Casually, Harry said to Jobs, "Not bad, I'm satisfied. Let me reward you by telling you something."

Jobs looked at him, nervous.

Harry thought for a moment and said, "You'll die of cancer."

Then he vanished.

Jobs wanted to ask what kind of cancer, but Harry was already gone.

From that day on, Jobs strictly followed a dietary regimen, exercised under the guidance of professional coaches, and ended up living a long life...

That evening, everyone gathered in the Great Hall for dinner, the atmosphere heavy with fear.

Professor McGonagall stood up and solemnly announced, "The school has decided: in two days, all students will be sent home. Hogwarts will close temporarily."

A wave of murmuring swept through the hall.

"Will the school ever reopen?"

"Not until the Chamber of Secrets is dealt with. I doubt the Ministry will allow classes to resume."

"How long will that take?"

"What about our classes?"

"Classes? More like holiday time!"

Professor McGonagall continued, "We've already contacted other wizarding schools. They've agreed to temporarily accept students who can't attend Hogwarts due to the closure."

"You'll receive owl post indicating which school you're to report to."

Saying this, she sat back down, visibly distressed.

Hermione whispered nervously, "Harry, what if we're assigned to different schools?"

Harry reassured her, "Don't worry. Hogwarts will be fine."

After dinner, the students were led back to their dormitories by their Prefects, all carrying heavy thoughts.

But as they reached the place where Filch's cat had once been petrified, everyone froze.

New words had appeared on the wall:

"Her skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever."

Professor McGonagall arrived swiftly, her face pale. "Prefects, start a head count! Find out who's missing!"

Eventually, someone from Gryffindor, trembling, said, "Professor… Ron is missing!"

McGonagall inhaled sharply. "Everyone, return to your dorms immediately. Lie down on your beds. No wandering, no going off alone!"

As she left, she nearly stumbled.

She thought bitterly, The school really will have to close now.

Harry activated the video function on his magical "phone," then Apparated to the Chamber of Secrets.

Inside the dim, ancient chamber, a red-haired figure lay at the foot of Salazar Slytherin's stone statue—eyes closed, face pale, completely motionless. He looked dead.

Beside him stood a translucent figure.

Facing the statue, the ghostly figure was speaking Parseltongue, summoning the basilisk.

Upon hearing footsteps behind him, he turned sharply.

"Harry," he said, startled. Then he smiled. "I've always wanted to meet you."

Harry, feigning surprise, replied, "Who are you? I don't know you."

Riddle looked at Harry and said, "How foolish. Let me tell you a story from long ago."

Harry quietly listened to Riddle as he began to boast.

"Over fifty years ago, a boy named Riddle came to this school of magic called Hogwarts."

"It took him five years, but he eventually found the great Slytherin's hidden Chamber. He opened it, released the terrifying creature within, and caused the death of a Muggle-born."

"No one ever suspected the well-behaved student. He successfully framed a boy named Hagrid. Everyone believed it, except for one professor—Dumbledore. He was the only one who didn't like Riddle, and kept a close eye on him, making it impossible for him to open the Chamber again."

"What? You're Riddle? You're the one I was talking to in the diary? You opened the Chamber?" Harry said, feigning shock.

Riddle was pleased with Harry's expression and continued smugly, "Haha, that's right. I later created a diary infused with the memories of my sixteen-year-old self, hoping it would guide someone to reopen the Chamber and cleanse the school."

"Of course, that was my initial plan. But when I awakened in this memory, I had only one target—you."

"What? Me?" Harry pointed at himself in confusion, playing the ignorant role well.

Riddle kept smiling and shook his head. "You really are dumb. You didn't notice a simple trick. But most wizards are like you—foolish."

"You still don't understand? I am Lord Voldemort! Riddle is just the name I discarded, a filthy Muggle name I would never use." He raised Ron's wand and wrote his name in the air, then rearranged the letters into:

"I am Lord Voldemort."

"Well, now that I've told you everything, it's your turn. Tell me—how did a mere baby defeat the greatest wizard in history?" He stared at Harry like a starving wolf waiting for a meal.

Harry looked at him calmly, not saying a word. Riddle grew impatient.

"You really don't have anything to say?" Harry asked with a curious smile. "I thought you'd have more to tell me."

Something felt off to Riddle. Harry was too calm. Shouldn't he be trembling at Voldemort's name?

Harry pulled out the camera from around his neck and turned it off. "But I think this is enough footage."

He said flatly, "You know, I originally planned to mess with you for a bit. But then I thought—why bother? You're just a shadow of the past. If you were in your prime, maybe I'd be interested."

"Really, I wanted to hand this footage to the Ministry and wait for you to keep coming back over the years. But then I got bored—there are more fun things out there."

Riddle grew uneasy. Harry's calm demeanor was unnerving. The things he said made no sense.

Riddle stepped back and pointed Ron's wand at Harry.

"Avada Kedavra!"

A green light shot toward Harry but rebounded as if it had struck a shield.

"Honestly, I don't think the Killing Curse is all that impressive," Harry said calmly.

"Impossible…" Riddle muttered, staring in disbelief. He quickly began speaking Parseltongue again, summoning the basilisk.

The great snake emerged from Slytherin's statue.

Riddle regained confidence. In Parseltongue, he commanded, "Kill him."

The basilisk slithered toward Harry, its tongue flicking.

Just as Riddle's hopes were rising, Harry reached down and picked up the black diary.

"If I ever made a Horcrux," Harry said thoughtfully, "I wouldn't use something meaningful. I'd use a random brick, bury it under a road for hundreds of years—or toss it into the ocean so deep even I couldn't find it again."

"You—" Riddle gasped. He wasn't yet the scheming, ruthless Dark Lord he would become, but he was still clever. Horcruxes were his deepest secret. No one knew about them. Yet Harry spoke of them so casually.

Riddle's form, glowing faintly, trembled. If he had a real body, he'd be ghostly pale.

He kept shouting at the basilisk, "Kill him! Hurry!"

The massive serpent towered over Harry like a collapsing skyscraper.

Compared to it, Harry looked tiny.

Riddle couldn't even see Harry anymore—he finally relaxed. Even if you knew my secret… you're dead.

But then came the chilling words:

"Forgot to mention—this basilisk is my pet."

The basilisk didn't strike.

Instead, it coiled behind Harry, lowering its head respectfully.

Riddle was stunned. What's going on? Didn't I open the Chamber? Didn't the basilisk obey me?

Harry didn't bother explaining. "Rest in peace," he said. "I'll destroy the rest of your Horcruxes soon—you won't be alone for long."

The rest of the Horcruxes… he knows everything! That thought consumed Riddle's mind.

"Eat it," Harry commanded, tossing the diary.

The basilisk opened its jaws and swallowed the diary whole. Its venom seeped inside.

"No—!" Riddle screamed.

A jet of ink burst out of the diary, soaking Harry's hands and spilling onto the floor. Riddle's ghostly form writhed, twisted, arms flailing as he shrieked.

And then—

That day, he became light.

He died without ever learning the answer that haunted him for ten years.

In his final moment, through the blinding glow, he saw Harry's calm face.

Suddenly, he had a wild thought:

Could Harry Potter actually be… Salazar Slytherin, reborn…?

And with that, his body shattered into particles of light.
