Chapter 702 - 5. Rito's Happiness

Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring...

The bell signaling the end of class rang. The teacher at the podium gathered his things, glanced at the student still sleeping soundly below, and sighed with a look of helpless resignation.

As the teacher left, the entire classroom and school erupted in noise.

"Ugh... is class over? That was fast..."

Sora stretched his neck, a comfortable look on his face.

Beside him, Haruna blushed and lowered her head, speechless. You just closed your eyes and the class was over. Of course it felt fast, she thought.

Sora had planned to wander around during the break to familiarize himself with the school, but before he could move, he was surrounded by a group of girls:

"Oh my god, Sora-kun, you really slept through the whole class! That's amazing!"

"Well, it's no big deal. I was just really bored..."

"Sora-kun, are you really one of those geniuses who doesn't need to study to get good grades? I thought people like that only existed in manga!"

"That's right, that's right. I'm that kind of genius. Even if you put all your little brains together, you wouldn't be as smart as me!"

"Wow... Sora-kun is so confident!"

"Sora-kun, are you really not some famous celebrity? You're so... so handsome!"

"Sigh, I can't help it. It's my parents' fault. To be honest, it's a real pain..."

"Aww... poor Sora-kun... If any other guy said that, I'd kick him. But when Sora-kun says it, I totally understand..."

"Sora-kun, where did you go to school before? What kind of things do you like?"

"Let's not talk about the past. As for what I like, hmm, delicious food, a leisurely life, all sorts of things, really. Of course, my favorite thing is beautiful girls!"

"Ahh... Sora-kun is so bold!!!!!"

"U-um, Sora-kun, do you have a girlfriend? Wh-what do you... think of me?"

"Hey, hey... you're putting me on the spot with a question like that. You're pretty good, but you're missing just a little something. If you were a bit prettier, I might consider going out with you. So, do your best! I believe you can do it!"

"Sora-kun... Mm, I'll work hard to become prettier!"

"Hahahaha... Keiko is such an idiot, getting rejected by Sora-kun and still being so happy! But Sora-kun is really interesting..."

...

Chit-chat, chit-chat. Surrounded by a flock of girls asking all sorts of questions, Sora found these innocent young ladies, still untainted by the darkness of society, quite amusing and played along cooperatively. The classroom was filled with the sound of the girls' pure laughter.

Of course, while his group was having fun, others weren't feeling so great. Especially the boys in the class, who gathered together, glaring at Sora's group with envy and hatred. If looks could kill, Sora would have died countless times already.

He's inhumanly handsome, and on top of that, he's a legendary super genius! How is anyone else supposed to enjoy life?

Enemy! This guy is definitely an enemy!!!!!

The boys, filled with righteous indignation, decided to collectively shun Sora. Even if he shamelessly tried to join them, they would ignore him. Let's see how he survives in class then!

Well, these simple young lads didn't realize that Sora had no intention of talking to them anyway. It was just the jealousy of a bunch of kids. This Sora understood. As long as they didn't cause trouble, they were still classmates.

However, if someone clueless did step out of line, hmph, then this Sora would have to do a little bullying!

By the window, Rito had intended to go over and greet Sora, but seeing him surrounded and welcomed by the girls while being glared at by the boys, and feeling the bizarre, polarized atmosphere in the classroom, he ultimately shrank back and abandoned the idea for now.

"Sora-san, oh Sora-san, you're on your own..."

Looking at Sora still chatting happily with the girls, Rito thought sympathetically.

His gaze habitually fell on Haruna. Seeing that his Haruna-chan wasn't as interested in Sora as the other girls and was just sitting quietly at her desk, Rito felt completely relieved.

Sora wasn't surprised that the girls were so enthusiastic towards him. He was handsome and a genius, so of course he would attract these young girls. Were they supposed to be enthusiastic about the average-looking guys with terrible grades instead?

It wasn't a matter of being superficial; it was a realistic and natural choice. The little boys who were inwardly cursing the girls for being shallow and vain were just letting their own incompetent jealousy run wild.

The girls all introduced themselves to Sora. Since they would be classmates for a while, he made a point to remember all their names.

To be honest, although these girls were quite cute and pretty, for Sora, who had already conquered countless goddesses, very few of them truly moved his heart. However, two of them did catch his particular attention.

If he remembered correctly, their names were Momioka Risa and Sawada Mio. The reason Sora paid extra attention to them wasn't because they were exceptionally outstanding, but because he recalled that in the original story, these two girls had a fair amount of screen time.

Risa looked a bit boyish and mature, but was a straightforward and even somewhat flippant girl. Sawada Mio wore glasses and had twin tails, giving off a childish, little-sister vibe. They were both members of the tennis club with Haruna, and the three of them were close friends who often hung out together.

Of course, that wasn't what truly made Sora notice them. What really caught his attention was that these two were super perverts in sheep's clothing!!!

As self-proclaimed protectors of the girls, they often stopped boys from harassing their female classmates. If that was all, they would be quite noble. But these two female perverts were also known for "guarding the henhouse while robbing it themselves." They had pretty much groped the chests and butts of every girl in the class with their wandering hands!

What interesting girls, Sora thought. He felt it would be necessary to "interact" with them more in the future...

The entire break was spent surrounded by girls. It wasn't until the warning bell rang that the overly enthusiastic girls reluctantly returned to their seats. Even Sora felt a small sense of relief...

"Well then, let's have a proper introduction now. My name is Kusanagi Sora. It's a pleasure to meet you. And what is your name, my beautiful and lovely deskmate-san?"

Looking at Haruna beside him, Sora's eyes sparkled as he spoke with a smile.

Just like in the original story, Haruna was an exceptionally reserved girl. Even when all the other girls were fawning over Sora, she had just kept her head down without saying a word.

"I... I'm Sairenji Haruna. It's a pleasure to meet you, Sora-kun."

Perhaps due to Sora's blunt compliment, the girl blushed with a little shyness. Her gaze met his for a moment before she flusteredly looked away.

Seeing the girl's deepening blush, Sora smiled and nodded, saying no more.

This is a gentle, reserved, and very interesting girl. I'll just slowly, step by step, conquer and steal her away from Rito...

With nothing else of importance to do, Sora's days fell into a routine: sleeping in class and chatting with the girls during breaks. The teachers of every subject were initially furious with the new transfer student's behavior, but after Sora demonstrated an intellect and academic ability that completely blew them away, they could only sigh helplessly and turn a blind eye to his actions.

This kind of student was completely beyond their ability to teach. As long as he didn't disturb the other students, he could do whatever he wanted.

The girls adored him. After a day, they were all quite familiar with him. He could probably even find out what color panties they were wearing if he asked.

Unlike the other girls, Haruna was probably the only one in class who remained reserved. Even as deskmates, they barely exchanged a few words a day.

Sora wasn't in a hurry. Although he and Haruna were just deskmates now, it wouldn't be long before they became friends, and that state would continue until one day they crossed the line into a relationship that was more than just friendship!

The boys were, as expected, cold and indifferent towards Sora, and he naturally didn't bother with them either. Besides Rito, the only other boy who spoke to him was one named Saruyama.

This guy was naturally friendly and, true to the name his parents gave him, looked like a monkey. However, he was quite popular in class, albeit only among the boys.

Rito was one of those average, unremarkable students in class. Although in the original story, after Lala's arrival and his awakening of the "divine pratfall," it was impossible for him not to be noticed, for now, he was just an obscure loser. Even Saruyama was more well-liked in class.

Saruyama and Rito were a pair of bickering friends, but based on Sora's expert observation, they had great potential to become a couple.

"See you tomorrow, Sora-kun!"

"Yeah, see you all tomorrow."

The final bell rang. The girls left in groups of three and five, waving goodbye to Sora.

"Sora-san, let's go home together."

It was Rito's voice. He walked up to Sora's desk with his bag, but his eyes kept darting towards Haruna.

Though he thought he was being secretive, the fact that Rito had a crush on Haruna was an open secret in the class. It was just that Haruna was like a dazzling swan, while he, Rito, was just a common toad. Although no one said it out loud, no one really thought he stood a chance. Plus, he had a record of dozens of failed confession attempts. Some of the girls had even gossiped and laughed about him with Sora earlier.

Although Sora felt that Rito was quite tragic and pitiful, he stood by his principle: he wouldn't hesitate to take what he wanted!

"Sure, let's go home together, Rito-kun."

"See you tomorrow, Sairenji-san."

Standing up, Sora smiled knowingly as he looked at the boy and girl who, according to their original destiny, were supposed to end up together.

"See you tomorrow, Sora-kun."

Haruna, having packed her bag, stood up and replied softly with a hint of shyness.

"Rito-kun..."

Nodding at Rito as well, Sairenji Haruna then trotted off to join Momioka Risa and Sawada Mio, leaving the classroom.

"Ah... Haruna-chan talked to me! Haruna-chan talked to me!!!"

With a love-struck look on his face, Rito watched Haruna's departing figure, screaming with excitement in his heart.

For him now, just being able to say a single sentence to Haruna-chan was enough to make him happy for half the day...

Watching Rito's pathetic state, Sora shook his head. How could such a useless good-for-nothing end up as the ultimate winner, gaining the favor of so many beautiful girls? It was simply unbelievable, a total dog-day afternoon!

"Let's go, Rito-kun."

Snapping Rito out of his daze, Sora also walked out of the classroom...
