Chapter 7 - Chapter VII

Perseus' Crater, Themyscira, 12:40 PM.

July 20th, 2010.

Hippolyta walks to Perseus with a bright smile on her face, "Congratulations, Perse. You have bested the Minotaur, but I have to ask, where could you have faced such a monster before so it could be your greatest adversary?" Diana coughs could be heard in the distance.

"Who cares about that!" Donna shouts as she rushes to hug Perseus, he groans from the several broken bones in his body, she quickly removes her arms. "Oh, I'm sorry but that was amazing Perse! I'm glad I have such a cool nephew."

Perseus looked toward Hippolyta with tired eyes, "Granny, that was the last trial right? Can we focus on finding—" He stopped and looked beyond Hippolyta squinting.

She sighs but nods, "I will have a party to search the island for anything off but you," She gently poked his arm causing him to wince, but his eyes never left what he saw in the distance, it looked like a man wearing dark armor. "You will get the rest you clearly need. We have everything handled."

The man seemed to notice Perseus looking at him and tilts his head amusingly before summoning a spear made of red lightning and getting into the running position. One second, he was on top of the palace the next he was mere inches away from piercing Hippolyta's heart.

With his only good arm Perseus grabs his grandmother by the arm and yanks her towards him. His eyes began to glow but quickly fizzle out, he's pushing it. But that bit of magic was enough to summon a gust of wind at the man's spear to throw him off.

The spear barely misses Perseus as it cuts through his shoulder and strikes the ground and explodes. The man clicks his tongue with mild annoyance; he was more amused than anything else. "That's an impressive reaction time you have there boy." Perseus blinks and finds himself on the ground with the man's foot on his chest, "Even more impressed by the fact you noticed me."

Diana punches him off Perseus and snarls, "What are you doing here Ares?!"

Ares chuckles summoning another lightning spear, "Can't I congratulate my nephew for besting that bull?"

"Some—" Perseus wheezes as Donna helps him to his feet, "Congratulations." Then he registers what Ares said, "Huh?"

"Perse, stay back." Donna says walking in front of him and drawing her sword.

Ares raise his hand mockingly, "Please please, I'm just here to meet the new family member. And—" He looks toward the only existing part of the Minotaur, "Looks like he has some potential."

"You will not coerce my son into joining you." Diana growls as the Amazons slowly begin to surround Ares.

Ares scoffs, "Like you can stop me." He looks toward Perseus with a smirk and raises the spear in the air. "Heal up nephew. You won't know when's the next time Uncle Ares is going to appear." He throws the spear to the ground exploding on impact; once the dust clears, Ares was there no more.

Palace Infirmary, 10:45 AM.

July 21st, 2010.

Perseus lay on the infirmary bed covered in bandages and surrounded by guards. Why wasn't he completely healed? Well, his mother, grandmother, and aunt forbade him from using magic while recovering. As for the guards? His grandmother placed them there to simultaneously defend him from Ares if need be and to make sure he doesn't use magic.

The infirmary door opens, and Diana enters the room, she looks at the guards, "Could you leave us?" The guards both nod and leave. Diana waits till the door closed before she turns to Perseus to speak but nothing escaped her mouth.

They both stared at each other until Diana moved to give Perseus a tight hug, "I was scared."

"Huh?"

"Seeing that beast throw you around… scared me." Diana admitted then laughed lowly, "I wonder this is how my mother felt when I left home." Her hug got tighter, "I never want to feel this fear again so dominate the battlefield, got it?"

Perseus nods, "Got it."

She released Perse from her grip, "I hope you are aware that your training will be tenfold."

"That's fair." Perseus laughs.

Diana looks at his bandages curiously, "Are you well enough to walk?"

"Yeah, Ms. Asclepias said that I can walk around but I've been confined to this bed thanks to grandma."

Diana nods, "Follow me."

Perseus stood up with a stumble but followed his mother out of the room. As they walked together Perseus though of the day after they first met, when he blew up the kitchen trying to make her food all to him choosing the jacket he's… wearing… now?

Perseus suddenly noticed that lack of his jacket, "Mom…" He said slowly.

"Yes?"

"Where's my jacket?"

Diana looked confused, "It was destroyed in the battle. You didn't notice?"

Perseus suddenly looked very distraught, "No! I was focused on not dying!"

"We could get you a new one!" Diana says, struggling to not laugh.

"…Okay." Perseus said but looks more down.

Soon they made it to the throne room where Hippolyta sat alone with Donna who's holding a box. Donna was the first to notice them and smile, then Hippolyta gestures them to come closer.

"Diana said today will be your last day here." Hippolyta said, "So- "

Donna interrupts, "So we decided to give you a gift!"

Hippolyta glares lightly at Donna and sighs, "Yes we have decided to give you a gift."

Perseus looks at the box in Donna's hands with a smile, "Is that it?"

Donna nods and hands it over to him, "I'm sure you'll like this."

Perseus opened the box and his eyes widened; he pulled out the same silver bracers he saw in the armory.

Without a second of hesitation, he hugged Donna and rushed to hug Hippolyta. "Thank you!"

"Well," Hippolyta said returning the hug, "Aren't you going to try it on?"

"Right." He puts the bracers on and smiles, "This is what my suit was missing!"

"It was made from a piece of Aias Telamonius' shield. Thus, making it nigh impenetrable and—" She gestures for Perseus to cross his arms; and upon doing so a seven layered barrier in the form of a silver iridescent flower with seven petals formed in front of him. "A barrier to protect you and your allies… mostly."

Perseus looked confused, "What do you mean mostly?"

Donna coughed, "Well, the reason it was in the armory collecting dust is because…"

"It reflects the damage back to the user with each petal broken." Hippolyta finished plainly, "So I'd expect you to not use such an ability unless things are truly dire for you and your team."

Perseus gives a faux salute with a smile, "Yes ma'am."

Diana looks at him sternly, "Perse."

He sighs and looks at his grandmother's eyes, "I swear that it won't be used unless it's a dire situation."

Hippolyta nods, 'That's all I ask."

Donna hugs him again, "Make sure you visit often, okay? Or I'll have to drag you back here myself."

"I'll try." Perseus hugs her back.

Mount Justice, Happy Harbor, 2:30 PM.

Perseus walked in through the zeta-tube to see Kaldur and Superboy training together while the others watched.

"Hey guys!" Perseus shouts, waving at them. Kaldur and Superboy immediately stop and turn to Perseus with a smile.

Robin's eyes widen as it lands on the bandages covering Perseus, "Perse, what happened?!

"One of the trials I had to complete involved me fighting a Minotaur. But hey I got to meet my grandmother, my aunt and… my uncle I guess."

Wally zipped by and wrapped his arm around Perseus, "I'm sensing some familial trouble with your uncle."

"Wait, I thought Themyscira was an island of women?" Kaldur asks.

Perseus nods, "Yup, but apparently, I have an uncle named Ares who's supposedly the 'god of war' I doubt he's an actual god though."

Everyone but M'gann turned to each other before turning back to Perseus, "But he is though?" Robin says.

"Huh?"

Robin pulls up the Greek mythos on his gauntlet and Wally says, "Yeah, Ares is actually a god of war. I'm pretty sure Wonder Woman fought him a couple of times before the league was formed."

Robin shows the sources, "Yeah you need to start reading up on your culture dude."

Perseus reads it carefully before sighing, "That's not good."

Wally zips around Perseus, "Well, ignoring your introduction into family drama; that's a nice suit dude! But I feel like it's missing something…"

Perseus groans at the reminder and Superboy states, "It's missing his jacket."

"Oh!" M'gann clasped her hands together and floats toward Perseus, "What happened to it?"

"My suit if durable… my jacket? Not so much."

M'gann gasps as she realizes something, "How about we all go shopping! That way Perse can get his new jacket, and we can hang out at the same time!"

"That's a great idea but," Robin gestures at Perseus, "He's pretty well known for being Wonder Woman's son Miss M. The public will question a bunch of random teenagers hanging out with him."

"Dude, I thought you were supposed to be smart?" Wally zips out of the area and returns in his own suit, "Just but on our suits piece of cake."

Kaldur thinks for a moment, "It does sound fun just to do something normal in our suits… Let's do it."

M'gann cheers and instantly shifts her clothing into her suit, Robin pulls out his utility belt and clicks it around his waist.

Wally looks at him weirdly but Robin just shrugs, "Hey its iconic. Also, I can't change as fast as you are all and," He gestures to Perseus, Kaldur, and Superboy. "I'm not already wearing my suit."

Kaldur turns to Perseus with a smile, "Well, lead us to the mall where you got your jacket from."

Perseus nods with slight salute before walking to the zeta tube.

The Mall, Washington, D.C., 3:03 PM.

The team walked into the shop scouring over different types of jackets and trying them on as Perseus makes a beeline toward where he found his jacket last time. The once moderately silent shop was filled with hushed whispers from customers as more people walked in to see the group of teens.

Kid Flash, noticing a couple of teen girls taking photos of them whispers to Robin, "We have to do this more often."

Robin fist bumps him, "Agreed."

Perseus comes back with his jacket in hand, "I found it, but I realized that I don't have any money on hand…"

Kid Flash waves it off, "Pssh, don't worry about money as long as Rob is here."

Robin elbows him with a smirk, "Yeah, I'll handle it."

Perseus sighs, "Thanks man."

Robin pats his back, "No problem."

Superboy walks up to Robin holding a black leather jacket with the 'S' crest etched to the back, he rubbed the back of his head and before he got the chance to ask Robin lightly punched his shoulder.

"You don't have to ask man! None of you do… well 'cept for KF." Robin said jabbing his finger at Kid Flash.

"Aww come on man! After everything we've been through."

Without even thinking, Robin said, "That's exactly why, because of everything we've been through."

"Excuse me," The team turned to see a reporter pointing a mic at them, "I'm Maddie Rutto, and if you don't mind can I ask you all a question?"

"I knew that this wouldn't end well." Robin muttered.

"Please, we're just trying to have an outing among friends." Kaldur spoke up.

"It'll just be one question!" Maddie insisted. The team looked at each other and nodded, "Great! Now the question that's been wondering my mind as soon as I seen you six enter that store was: What would bring a group of sidekicks and—"

"We're not sidekicks." Kid Flash interrupted.

"And three teens that look to have some sort of relations with members of the Justice League together?"

"Friendship." Superboy answered plainly.

"You say friendship, but I see a possibility of a group of super teens coming together to form their own little team, like some Teen Titans! No… Young Justice League? No… Young Justice!! Perfect."

The team was shocked by how spot on she was, but before she could catch their shocked faces, Robin saved the day.

"Say whatever you feel, Miss, but we're just here to hang out among friends, and I doubt our mentors would like us leaving the nest without supervision."

Maddie opens her mouth to speak before the building begins to shake and a thunderous boom shatters all the glass.

"What was that?!" M'gann shouted, looking around for the source.

"I don't know but—" Kaldur started, but was interrupted by Perseus.

"But we're going to find out? Duh." Kaldur looks at Perseus with a raised brow while Perse just smiles, "I'll fly out to see where it's from."

Kaldur nods and turns to Maddie, realizing something, "Kid! Get the civilians to a safe place."

Kid Flash raises a brow before picking up Maddie and asking, "Who made you leader?" Before zipping off

"I'll assist him," M'gann says, floating off.

Another boom is heard, and Perseus bursts through the wall near them unharmed but a little dizzy.

Before the rest get to ask Perseus anything, he shakes his head with a groan and says, "Okay… not a normal bank robber. He has a weird-looking suit and even weirder gauntlets, and apparently calls himself the—"

Before he could finish, a man walked through the hole with a duffel bag full of money, "That'll teach you to mess with the Shocker, kid!"

"Whatever you say, man." Perseus sighs as he stands up and dusts off his suit. "Wait," He began, looking at his jacket frantically, "Is my jacket okay?!"

Superboy smacks him upside his head, "It's fine! Now, can you worry more about supervillains in front of us?"

Shocker chuckles, "You should listen to your friend kid-"

Perseus, however, ignored him, "Why should I worry about him? He has superpowered gauntlets, not even a suit, but gauntlets! It's pretty underwhelming compared to Mr. Twister."

Robin whistles, walking beside them, "Not even whelmed?"

Perseus shakes his head, "Not even."

"You're not wrong… let's just take him down so we can leave." Superboy sighs before charging at Shocker.

Robin cackles, "I know it's not needed, but what if we just team up against him?" As soon as those words left Robin's mouth, Perseus joined Superboy, pummeling Shocker. Robin cackles once more before joining in.

Kaldur looks at his teammates from the sidelines and sighs, amused and yet disappointed.

Later…

As Robin joyfully hands the beaten and bruised, both in pride and body, Shocker to the police, he turns around to see his friends surrounded by the media. "… Nope!" He tries to slip away, but one blink and a gust of wind later, he finds himself in front of dozens of cameras with Kid Flash's hand on his shoulder.

"I'll get you for this!" He whispers harshly.

"No man left behind." Kid Flash whispers.

With the mics pointed at their faces, they barely got chances to answer any questions that varied from 'Is Superman your father?', 'What's it like having Wonder Woman as a mother?', 'What brought you all together?', 'Done with being sidekicks?' Some questions were asked repeatedly until one final question that was clear to all.

"Have you six decided to form your own league?"

"My apologies," Kaldur spoke up, "But n—"

Maddie suddenly bursts through the crowd, "Of course they are! And they already decided on a name!"

"We huh?" Kaldur looks at the reporter in shock

"They're Young Justice!" She turns to the team and whispers with a wink, "Say whatever I feel right?"

A/N: Hey... sorry it's been a while, but I was dealing with some issues and needed a break, mainly college and grief. But here we go! Also, what I'm planning for this story, as you could probably tell by the ending, is for the team to have two sides of the same coin... one being public and the other being covert.
