After hearing Grant Heath say that, Alice Turner didn't bother with any more niceties with him. She felt a bit embarrassed facing him because of the lie she told on the phone last night which got exposed today.
To ease the awkward atmosphere, she picked up the bowl and spoon that Lily Turner had just used for her chicken soup and walked over to the sink to wash them, in an effort to soothe her own embarrassment.
She ended up washing a single bowl and spoon for several minutes, and the only sound in the entire hospital room was the sound of her washing dishes.
Grant Heath, sitting alone on the sofa, also felt awkward. He wanted to leave, but he was reluctant to do so.
Just when he was feeling conflicted about whether to go or stay, Lily Turner, lying in the hospital bed, spoke up, "Grant! You've already visited me, and I'm perfectly healthy. If you have things to attend to, go ahead and do them. There's no need to linger here."
