Mabel Quinn, after a moment of silence, finally spoke, "Alright, I accept your apology, but I hope this doesn't happen again. Even though we are still married in name, it doesn't mean you can do this to me."
"This won't happen again," he said.
"Then can you leave now? I want to rest," Mabel said.
"I..." he paused, then said, "I want to stay with you."
"So my wishes aren't important to you, are they?" she said.
He was taken aback, and after a long pause, he smiled wryly and said, "Fine, I'll leave, but if you need anything, you can always... call me."
Mabel pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
Kyle Kinston walked to the hospital room door, looked once more at the woman on the bed, and without saying anything, left.
Mabel lay on the hospital bed, letting out a long sigh. She was really so tired... feeling like she couldn't catch her breath.
