"You lot hurry up! This storm ain't letting up soon"
Daniel and the passengers rush to follow the man. rough sounds of the Trampling of wet wooden boards slowly fades to stone and torches lighting the way being blasted to nothing but the embers and quick moving smoke.
"Is everyone here?" shouted the man...
those from the boat looked around at each other... everyone seems to be here...
The inn stood at near the edge of the walls protecting the people inside from the demons outside. Beyond those stone walls has a maze that would kill anyone if they stepped 2 feet outside.
The Forests and certain vegetation seems deadly or hallucinogenic to a point that would make the one who leaves to move further in without supplies end up a corpse before the sun goes down or rises for the next day. This stretches toward the distant mountains of grey beneath the leaden'd sky.
The passengers step inside the inn. wind whistling through the cracks between the walls. the warmth of the inside helped calm down many of the religious. A staring contrast to the chill that adhered to Daniel's skin.
The Air thick with firewood smoke as soot lingered and spread like mold across the ceiling. with murmurs of hushful conversations. Daniel moved towards a corner looking around the first room of the inn.
Workers trying to get people settled in. A group of people sit at a table near the door in the other room, talking to each other point out each person.
"Sir" - speaks the receptionist.
"would you like to head to your Room sir. get yourself comfortable."
Daniel looks to the people who sat at the table now gone. he looks back to the receptionist.
"yeah... ill like to see my room. which?"
Before Daniel could finish his question the receptionist give him a key. Room 12 the one furthest from the main hall on the first floor.
Whilst walking to the room, Footsteps kept coming from behind him. As he turned nothing was there. At the door to the 12th room he heard the foot steps again. he looks back to the hall. only one of the passengers can be seen and they seem to be more interested in the receptionist...
As Daniel puts the key in the hole and turns the lock, right at the click the sound of a knife leaving the sheath echoes in the hall. Daniel enters his room quickly, closes the door and locks it as someone on the other side bangs on the door. After a Few seconds the banging stops and footsteps slowly fade away.
"what the fuck..." murmurs Daniel...
hours go by with Daniel too paranoid to sleep, keeps his focus on the door and window to his room.
*Knock! Knock!*
"Sir... Are you Awake?" Its the Receptionist.
"y... Yes I'm awake..." Daniel replies fearful to open the door, or to even go near it...
"we have set up supper in the dining hall if you'd like to join the rest of your group."
Daniel looks at the window and back to the door. "ok... I'll be there soon"
The Receptionist is heard walking away as a note gets passed underneath the door.
picking it up Daniel recognizes the writing. He opens the door to be greeted with no one in sight or viewable by the naked eye...
The Letter reads
-Daniel. I Have gotten your letter.by now you have made it to the colony and don't know whats happened between the time you left the mainland to the present. The Church have informed the Heroes of the letter you had sent to me and have sent someone after to kill you. I'm still stuck within the demon city and am unable to leave and unable to help you get here safely. Be careful and look for someone named Higgins. he'll help you travel across the island without getting killed. May HeleVog Guide you.-
After reading the letter Daniel decides to join the rest of the group. hoping to figure out who was sent to kill him. The smell of roasted meat and salt filled the air with the group getting acquainted with the rest of the colony.
Daniel sat at a long table near the back, Around him, sailors and settlers spoke in half-whispers, with some laughing and others too tired or drunk to speak at all.
Daniel's eyes swept the room once, then again. The tension in his shoulders wouldn't ease. After nearly being killed only an hour or so ago, made him pinpoint focused on everything around him. As the Inn keeper went by, Daniel Asks for a pint of Ale
A man with travel-stained clothes and a worn cloak made straight for the counter. He ordered a drink. whilst Daniel was looking in the other direction, He failed to notice the faint exchange of a subtle nod between the server and the cloaked figure The poisoned drink slid across the counter, quiet as a whisper and handed to the innkeeper and placed onto the table.
One of the drunk sailors didn't notice that the drink wasn't his and Moments later, the man took a sip… He Froze then fell spewing blood from his mouth in agony. His cup falling to the floor, spilling its contents across the planks.
The Room went completely silent... Chairs scraped, men stood, others backed away.
That's when Daniel saw them... two figures moving through the confusion, too calm and not giving a notice to the man who had just died in an ugly way. Their cloaks shifted, and steel flashed.
Daniel and the men locked eyes. the assassins' now know they've been outed by their target and rush toward Daniel, Dagger in hand ready to stab and slash.
The Assassins' moved With such a swiftness that He barely got his arm up in time. The first strike grazed but still drew blood, Daniel picks up the poor sailors matchlock and counters the assassin ready to lunge.
Daniel countered and fired. hitting one in the stomach, hunched over, bleeding out. The other runs away. Daniel tries to stop him with others helping but his speed was to much and Daniel couldn't bare the pain in his arm.
A cold scoring fire coursed through him as the flesh around his wound turned purple with the veins along his arm following quickly soon after. A deadly Toxin.
Daniels vision begins to blur, he stumbles back into his chair as people rush to find a mage to heal him quickly.
His vision begins to darken as sound begins to fade.
"QUICKLY FETCH Hig-"...
-The Next Morning-
Daniel sits up thinking he's dead. The sky outside was now daylight but not clear. Before he could speak a man sitting beside him starts to talk.
"Your lucky you know... I was almost out of the colony gates when I heard someone yell out that you needed my help." The man was old. his face had a scar from the cheek to just under the jaw.
"T-Thank you for getting there in time... Did they find the other person?"
"Sadly no we couldn't get the other guy but... he seems to be gone now."
"I'm Daniel" He puts his hand out still sore and slightly weighed down by fatigue.
The old man shakes his hand
"Call me Higgins."
