Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer, mathematician, doctor of canon law, and priest during the Renaissance. He was the founder of heliocentrism and initiated modern astronomy.
Of course, he was not a figure of this world.
Dark only paid a little extra attention to Olivia Copernicus because of the familiar surname. Since Professor Hacks happened to assign homework on researching traitors, he thought of her.
There had been a wanted poster for Olivia Copernicus in an issue of the Great Sage Daily, though it was from over a decade ago. However, since she could be easily recognized, her appearance likely hadn't changed much over the last ten-plus years.
With a name, an appearance, and the publication time of the wanted poster, the scope of the data search narrowed instantly to an acceptable range.
After Dark arrived at the library with Diana and Rose, it took them about two hours to find a thick stack of materials. Among them were newspapers, magazines, and some related historical documents.
Olivia was not considered particularly famous among "traitors." After all, the nature of her betrayal was not quite the same as traitors like the Ghost Bull Chief, Omondo Zakanias. There were no typical instances of betrayal.
She was categorized as a "traitor" solely because, despite having mostly human blood flowing through her veins, she later became a lackey of the Demon race. Therefore, information about her was not easy to find.
Most students looked for those famous traitors who had specific instances to trace, or even had many ready-made evaluations to borrow from. Diana and Rose both chose such people, so their progress on this assignment moved ahead of Dark's.
But Dark was not in a hurry. If one did homework merely to complete a task, the homework itself would lose much of its meaning.
It took a full night for Dark to gain a relatively detailed understanding of that Demon mixed-blood.
What surprised him was that the wanted poster for Olivia Copernicus appeared suddenly at the end of the war. Appearing in the same batch as her was a large group of people labeled as "traitors."
But when Dark briefly checked the pasts of some others on the list, he found that only Olivia had absolutely no past records. Or perhaps, her past had been artificially severed. This made her seem like a person who had appeared out of thin air.
That wanted poster was essentially her resume, her first introduction to the world. And her crime was a unified "Treason."
At the end of the war, when humanity was about to step toward final victory, a large group of people underwent a purge; she was likely one of those caught up in the mix.
However, during her "escape," she displayed incredibly powerful combat strength. Whether it was bounty hunters greedy for the reward or inquisitors from the Holy Church, all returned in defeat.
Then, for a long time, she suddenly vanished without a trace. When she reappeared, she actually turned herself in!
Yes. This "traitor" suddenly appeared in a Holy Church cathedral late one night, offered sincere repentance to the "Saint," and allowed the Holy Knights to arrest her.
That incident was even publicized by busybodies. The Holy Church fanned the flames, using it to promote a wave of doctrine.
Afterward, Olivia underwent a public trial by the Inquisition and was sentenced to one hundred years of imprisonment, incarcerated in Bastia Prison.
On a newspaper Dark found, there was a high-definition color picture of her wearing a prisoner's uniform with shackles on her feet, being sent into the prison gates.
Olivia had beautiful auburn hair and slightly pale skin, but her features were exquisite. Her age appeared to be around thirty, looking like a fully ripe peach. To reveal her ferocity, that color picture specifically depicted her fangs very clearly.
Evidently, the Demon blood flowing through her body belonged to the Vampires!
"How is this possible?"
Dark was exceptionally astonished after researching this point. After dealing with Vlad in the secret chamber, he had specifically researched knowledge related to Vampires.
The bloodline of a creature like a Vampire was extremely aggressive. Their inheritance was roughly divided into two methods.
One was the Embrace, turning humans into blood thralls, then purifying the bloodline step by step from the blood thrall stage to become a true Vampire.
The other was biological heredity! For any species, offspring produced after reproducing with a Vampire could only be Vampires!
Their bloodline might be degraded, becoming "impure." But they would merely be low-sequence, inferior Vampires, not anything else.
Legends even stated that after a god reproduced with a Vampire, the resulting offspring was also a Vampire! That deity was even banished because of it!
Therefore, a mixed-blood between a human and a Vampire theoretically did not exist. But if Olivia were a complete Vampire, only the death penalty would await her, not a fixed-term imprisonment. This was obviously contradictory.
Unless Olivia possessed a special power that could resist the corrosion of that bloodline.
Dark pressed the tip of his pen against his notebook, rotating it slightly as he pondered the possibilities. He had a faint feeling that there was something he should know, but he just couldn't recall it.
After a long while, he got up, went into the snack room to eat something, and when he came out, he had already given up on pursuing this point further.
Afterward, he began to write the relevant paper. The thesis of the paper was quite odd: Did Olivia actually betray?
A "Vampire" powerhouse with no record of actively slaughtering humans. A "traitor" who actively went to a church to repent and surrender.
So, where exactly did she betray? Dark searched through all the materials but couldn't find Olivia's "betrayal," so he needed someone to tell him.
This feeling of following a story only for it to end abruptly halfway through was not very pleasant.
After finishing his homework, Dark returned to the dormitory.
He thought about it carefully and, choosing one out of [Pride], [Lust], and [Greed], he selected [Greed], then extracted and stored it. Immediately after, he used three Flower Cards to lower his [Lust] indicator by three points as insurance.
The purpose of extracting [Greed] was to refine a Magic Guide Spirit with the [Fruit of Greed] as its core.
Once everything was handled, he took out [Pride III] and used it on DemiDevimon. This time, DemiDevimon's evolution was very smooth; it did not stay in the "intermediate state" but evolved directly into Devimon based on "memory."
It didn't even need [Pride I] to guide it.
"As expected..."
Dark's mind moved slightly, and he took the opportunity to practice passenger-carrying [Teleportation] with Devimon several times to prevent being unskilled when using it at a critical moment.
He then communicated with Eevee-chan, asking it to be ready for the "audit" tomorrow night.
After a lapse of three months, Astronomy class had finally started again!
