Chapter 159 - Chapter 159: Dark Demon, Joyful Harmony

Chapter 159: Dark Demon, Joyful Harmony

[Magic Beast] is typically a one-star card with 100 Magic, 100 Attack, and 100 Defense.

However, the base power of [Magic Bullet Charm] is also only 100 points.

Even with an infusion of magic, while [Magic Bullet Charm]'s power may increase, the actual damage it inflicts

still isn't significant.

Meanwhile, Eevee was already lurking below, watching like a tiger.

When Seaworth's Magic Beast was struck down from the air, Eevee casually swiped at it with a paw.

...

"Battle over!"

"Winner: Dark Demon."

As two Magic Spirits were successively defeated, Seaworth gritted his teeth slightly and summoned his

last Magic Spirit—a Magic Spirit he had forged in class using the "Basic Alchemy Method"!

This mere one-star Magic Spirit similarly could not escape Eevee-chan's stomp and was swiftly and utterly defeated.

...

With all three of Seaworth's Magic Spirits destroyed, Professor Jones determined that Seaworth no

longer had the ability to prevent Dark from attacking the Magic Orb, and decisively declared the victor.

[End Phase]

The words displayed directly above the card table changed once more.

According to normal procedure,

the next steps should be interaction (taunting), collecting cards, and making declarations.

The victor would accept interviews and make a pronouncement.

The loser would leave behind some words, such as, "The green mountains remain, and the green waters flow on."

And the duel would then conclude.

But the atmosphere of the in-class competition wasn't so aggressive.

Seaworth wore a mournful expression and left the stage early.

Dark also collected his cards and stepped off the stage right after his victory.

...

"So, how does it feel to win a duel?"

Professor Jones watched Dark walk back and asked.

Dark sighed slightly, "It's alright, just a bit bland."

Professor Jones nodded, "Indeed, this wasn't an evenly matched duel. Perhaps the second-

year competition would suit you better."

Dark paused slightly. "Second year?"

...

With Dark successfully securing his spot,

the 9-to-5 bracket smoothly concluded.

The schedule progressed to the fourth sub-round, the 5-to-4 bracket.

Professor Jones again removed Dark from the calculation, making it a 4-to-3 bracket.

These remaining four competitors first dueled in pairs, determining two winners, after which the two losers

would contend for the final advancement spot.

By the time the first round was completely over, it was already 1 PM.

Professor Jones gathered the Noble House students once more and announced loudly, "The first round of competition

is now over. Victors, do not grow arrogant, and losers, do not be disheartened. No duelist is ever truly invincible.

As your professor, I hope all of you gain something from this competition. Next, I will announce

the advancement list. First, Dark Demon!"

Dark, who had only appeared once in the make-up matches, stepped forward.

"Dianna Greatbear!"

Dianna shyly sidled up to Dark's side.

"Teddy Doron!"

The red-haired boy raised his head and puffed out his chest, his eyes brimming with fighting spirit.

"Johnny Yorkson!"

A lanky boy, half a head taller than his classmates, stepped forward.

Professor Jones swept a glance over them and nodded with satisfaction. "You four will represent our Noble

House in the second round of dueling competition this afternoon. I won't say much else—bring back a championship."

"Yes!"

Doron's vigorous reply resounded through the venue.

The other three opened their mouths, and the atmosphere grew a little awkward.

Professor Jones couldn't help but laugh, clapping her hands. "Next, you have an hour and a half to eat and recuperate.

At 2:30, reassemble here. Dismissed!"

...

The junior mages immediately scattered.

Rose trotted over and began to jest with Dianna.

The three walked and chatted, soon arriving at the dining hall.

Even though it was already 1 PM, the food in the dining hall remained plentiful.

The halfling chefs always made sure to keep the food above a certain temperature to maintain the best possible

flavor.

After Dark ordered his dishes, he sat down at an empty table.

A little while later, Dianna and Rose successively took their seats.

The three ate lunch together, just as they had done on nearly half the noons over the past three months.

Dianna stuffed a piece of roasted lamb into her mouth, and with puffed cheeks, mumbled, "

Dark, my performance today was alright, right?"

Dark thought back for a moment.

Dianna's performance among the Noble House first-years at this stage was indeed quite excellent.

Her Bear-series Magic Spirits were quite powerful, and unexpectedly, not only did she have Magic Spirit cards obtained from "card gambling,"

but also several additional Magic Cards.

Especially one of them, [Bear's Strength], helped her turn the tide in her final duel of the first round!

So Dark weighed his words carefully, "You performed very well."

After hearing this, Dianna felt a little shy and a little proud, and she couldn't help but want to reveal her "little

secret."

But Dark raised an index finger, reminding her, "The forging methods for Magic Guide Cards must not be casually leaked.

For a Magister, every secret recipe is a huge fortune."

"It's fine," Dianna said, though she didn't seem to mind much. "I just found a note in a book,

and just followed it, and it worked."

Dark said with a straight face, "That's still your lucky break."

Dianna: "Fine."

Rose looked back and forth between the two, unable to suppress a smile.

...

Lunch that day remained a joyful affair.

The chill of early winter seemed to have been dispelled.

...

A little past 2 PM.

The junior mages, who should have been wandering aimlessly in Traveler's Street, had returned to Dueling Arena ①.

The four professors gathered, discussing the morning's first round of matches and critiquing the students

from their respective houses.

As the conversation progressed, they inevitably focused their attention on a few key individuals.

Claire, in charge of the Fool's House students, sighed slightly. "This batch of Fool's House students still needs to mature.

Ever since my student days, their talents have always required the accumulation of time to blossom."

Professor Lily glanced at her. "Like Peter Shelvitch?"

Professor Sarah quickly glared at her, then interjected, trying to lighten the mood, "Shelvitch is indeed a prime example

of quiet accumulation leading to explosive growth. Lily, the Magic Academy seems to have quite a few outstanding students this year?"

Lily smiled. "Indeed, our Magic Academy's Dark Demon is exceptionally outstanding."

Professor Jones rolled her eyes. "You act as if you want to tie him to your own leg."

Lily, instead, said proudly, "Of course he is, he's Lily's little darling."

Claire couldn't help but frown.

Professor Sarah said, speechless, "Let's get serious. How was Sara Swati's performance?"

Professor Lily straightened her demeanor. "She's already reached the point of applying knowledge practically. It's said

she's the Ancient Sage's biological granddaughter?"

Claire lightly interjected, "She's his biological daughter."

Lily froze, a hint of disbelief appearing on her face. "No way? The Ancient Sage is already that old!"

Claire: "Ever heard the saying, 'Old but tough'?"
