Chapter 1 - Part One: The introduction

Part One: The introduction

We live our days guided by something unseen, something that enables us to decide, solve, create, and dream. Without it, life would be an empty vessel, stripped of every invention and discovery we take for granted. Civilisations have called it many names — magic, sorcery, trickery — when its face was still unknown. It has carried our kind from the fires of the first night to the glittering towers of today. Yet, no matter how far we advance, its nature remains as shadowed as the beginning of time.

This thing is thought — the elusive current that moves through us all, yet belongs to no one. Some say thoughts can be inherited like the colour of our eyes, but if that were true, why must the hunter learn his aim anew, and the engineer rediscover every tool? Perhaps thought is more than memory, more than skill. Perhaps it is an ocean where each mind is only a ripple, and the depths are shared.

Researchers have compared the universe to the network of the brain — neuron to galaxy, synapse to starlight — until the question becomes unavoidable: are we living inside something's mind? And if so… whose?

The universe itself unfolds in layers we cannot measure, just as thought does, creating marvels we could never exhaust in a thousand lifetimes. The endless seas of entertainment, the boundless shores of knowledge, all of them human-made — yet even these pale beside the intricate illusions of what we call creation. It is beautiful, perfect, and impossible, all at once. A paradox that turns the mind back on itself.

And somewhere within that paradox, between thought and unthought, there are voices. Some we know are ours. Others… drift in from a place we cannot name.
