Alice kept patting Selene's back in slow, steady motions. She waited until her sister's breathing evened out and the tears slowed before she spoke again.
"Do you understand what I said?"
Selene nodded slowly, her head still resting against Alice's shoulder. The words had sunk in, but they left a heavy feeling in her chest that she could not quite shake.
"I will protect him, so you don't need to worry. Also, tell him about the Quest," Alice said.
Selene nodded once more, though this time the motion came with clear hesitation. The thought of explaining to Isaac that she might become dangerous to him someday made her stomach twist. What if he looked at her differently afterward and decided he could not stay by her side?
Alice watched her sister's face and read the worry there without needing any explanation. She chose not to press the issue further. Isaac would know how to handle the rest from here, and Alice trusted him completely with Selene's heart.
