Adrian glanced at the bed once more, then at the door Yu had nearly opened. His voice dropped to a murmur, low enough that it wouldn't stir the others.
"Step away from the door…"
He said gently.
"We're not running out of here like this. We need to rethink everything."
Yu hesitated, then moved back to stand behind him. Adrian's expression was thoughtful but grim as he leaned slightly on the doorframe for support.
"If you can keep Theo bed-bound…"
Adrian said slowly, choosing each word with care.
"Just for a while longer—keep him weak, I can use the time to finish what I started. I've already bought out most all of his board. A few more signatures, a few more meetings, and the Kingsley company will be mine in all but name."
Yu blinked at him, caught off-guard.
"You're asking me to… to drain him? Keep him too weak to leave this bed?"
His voice wavered in disbelief.
Adrian's eyes held his, dark but steady.
