"I'm not… human, Adrian. Not really."
He forced himself to meet Adrian's eyes when he turned.
"I'm an Incubus."
The word hung in the air between them, heavy with meaning. Adrian's brow furrowed, in shock at first, but slowly shifted into something closer to incredulous. Still, the hurt in his eyes remained.
Yu pressed on, afraid that silence would only drive Adrian further away.
"Last night—it wasn't what you think. I fed on Callen, that's all. It's what my kind has to do to survive. It isn't…"
His voice softened further, almost pleading.
"…It isn't the same as when we're together. Not really."
For a long moment Adrian said nothing. The tension in his jaw eased only slightly as he studied Yu's face—the human look of brown hair and hazel eyes that looked far too fragile in the bright bathroom light.
Yu shifted his weight, his fingers twisting together nervously.
