After about ten minutes, Shu Mengyao slowly woke up. She opened her eyes and found herself in a somewhat familiar yet slightly unfamiliar car interior. She paused, her mind rebooting.
"Lin Yang, did I… fall asleep just now?" Shu Mengyao rubbed her forehead in slight frustration.
"You're a new mother; your body hasn't fully recovered yet. Feeling tired is normal," Lin Yang gently reassured her.
He got out of the car, opened her door, and helped her out. Then he took the folded baby stroller from the trunk, unfolded it, and carefully placed Xingxing inside. With Yun Yun in one arm and pushing the stroller with the other, his actions were smooth and natural, his face showing no hint of impatience.
"Lin Yang, is this a rented place?" Shu Mengyao asked as her big, watery eyes gazed at the building before her.
The building had 20 floors, and their apartment was on the 10th, offering excellent lighting and a relatively open view. Lin Yang was quite satisfied with it.
"This is my home," Lin Yang replied, then quickly corrected himself. "No, this is our home."
Our home. Shu Mengyao silently repeated those words to herself, a faint smile curving her lips.
The two entered the elevator and went up to the 10th floor, unit 1002. Lin Yang took out a key, inserted it, and with a crisp click, the door opened.
The three-bedroom apartment came into view. While not large, the clever design made full use of the space. The open-concept living room made the area feel more spacious.
Although Lin Yang knew the system had mentioned the place was furnished, he didn't expect it to be so thoughtfully designed.
"Wow, Lin Yang! When did you decorate the baby room?" Shu Mengyao exclaimed after checking the rooms.
In the third bedroom, the colors were brighter and more vibrant. The walls were covered with colorful wallpaper featuring adorable cartoon characters and animals. Inside were two small beds with cozy mattresses and cartoon-themed bedding—one pink and one blue, clearly prepared for the babies.
Near the beds was a small desk and chair. In one corner stood a tiny storage cabinet covered with cute stickers. The room was filled with a sense of childlike joy and warmth, clearly designed for the babies.
"Lin Yang was at the hospital with me the whole time. When could he have had time to do all this?" Shu Mengyao thought in confusion, standing frozen at the sight.
Lin Yang, who had followed her in, was also slightly surprised when he saw the room. The system had truly thought of every detail, even preparing a baby room tailored to Xingxing and Yun Yun.
"That day, Wang Chao came by, remember? I later asked him to help me set this up," Lin Yang scratched his head, improvising a believable excuse. He couldn't exactly tell her the truth about the system.
"Oh, I see," Shu Mengyao nodded. "The room looks amazing! The babies are going to love it."
Her eyes sparkled with happiness, and her heart felt warm. She never expected Lin Yang to be so thoughtful, not only preparing all the baby essentials but even setting up a room for them.
She had worried before, afraid Lin Yang might have taken them in purely out of a sense of duty. But now, it was clear he genuinely cared for the babies—and for her.
Her decision to come here felt even more right.
"You've been walking around all day; sit down and rest. I'll carry the babies to their cribs," Lin Yang gently guided Shu Mengyao to the sofa before carefully placing Yun Yun in the blue crib and Xingxing in the pink one.
"Babies, we're home now. You have to grow up healthy and happy, okay?" he said softly.
The two babies seemed to understand, giggling and babbling. Lin Yang stayed with them until they fell asleep, then returned to the living room.
"Lin Yang, is there anything I can do to help?" Shu Mengyao asked, sitting on the sofa and feeling a bit guilty. Watching Lin Yang bustle around made her feel useless.
"Your main task now is to rest and recover. Taking care of yourself is the most important thing," Lin Yang replied with a smile.
He was mostly organizing the house to familiarize himself with where everything was since this was his first time here as well.
Shu Mengyao sat quietly, her gaze following Lin Yang's every movement. By the time he finished tidying up, she was already drowsy, nodding off on the sofa.
"Yaoyao?" Lin Yang's soft voice startled her awake.
"Huh?" She blinked, sitting up straight. "I almost fell asleep again. Lin Yang, I feel so useless… Why am I always so tired?"
"You've exhausted your body. You need time to recover," Lin Yang reassured her. "Come, let's get you to bed."
He guided her into the master bedroom and helped her lie down on the bed. Just as he turned to leave, Shu Mengyao instinctively grabbed his wrist.
"Lin Yang, where are you going?" she asked, her voice tinged with nervousness and a hint of pleading.
"I'm going to hire a confinement nanny for you," he said gently, brushing her hair behind her ear. "You need rest, and I don't want you to overwork yourself taking care of the babies."
"A confinement nanny? Isn't that expensive?" Shu Mengyao's first thought was about the cost.
"Yaoyao, you had nurses taking care of you in the hospital. At home, I want to ensure you and the babies are well taken care of. Don't worry about the money—your health is what matters most."
