Samantha's words kept ringing in Evelynn's ears, even as she watched her get dragged back by their mother.
"What do you mean you 'took care of her'?" Evelynn asked, feeling her whole body grow cold.
"Haha, there's nothing for you to worry about, child," her mother tried to reassure her in a light voice, but Evelynn kept looking straight at Samantha.
"Samantha. What. Did. You. Mean?" Evelynn asked again through gritted teeth.
"We did you a favor!" Samantha yelled back, ignoring her parents as they tried to keep her quiet. Breaking free from her mother's grasp, she furiously pointed at Evelynn.
"And don't you dare talk to me like that. You're nothing without us. You're just an unwanted child!"
"Samantha!" Their father's voice boomed, anger seething from his very being.
"But it's true!" Samantha yelled back, not backing down.
"And why do we even need to care about this thing," she screamed, once again pointing at Evelynn.
