Upon arriving at Spencer Memorial Hospital, Allen was greeted by a middle-aged African-American man named Mark Wilkins. Allen quite liked this man, as every time he came to work at the laboratory, Mark always welcomed him warmly. I hope this man can survive the upcoming outbreak and escape from this city, Allen thought to himself. He had no idea that Mark would later become one of the few survivors in Raccoon City.
"Hey, Mark… how's your wife?" Allen greeted.
"Hahaha, she's fine… but could you, for once, not ask about my wife every time you come here? I'm afraid my marriage might fall apart because of you, you know," Mark replied jokingly with a laugh.
Allen chuckled. "Alright, alright… here, I brought you some donuts and a few snacks to enjoy while working."
"Ohhh, thank you!" Mark said happily as he accepted the food without hesitation. Yes, their relationship was quite close—one could even say they were good friends.
After that, Allen entered the hospital and headed to the elevator to go down to the underground laboratory owned by Umbrella.
Now, he sat in front of a computer, working on several formulas sent by Dr. William through the main server. Hours passed until he finally finished. He saved the data and sent it to William. Allen felt slightly annoyed, as the man had never once shown his face and only gave him trivial tasks that felt like a waste of time.
Once that work was done, Allen turned to his main research. He read the formula created by Annette, stored inside a mini memory card of his own design. He was truly impressed by the new formula, then began running several tests in the laboratory.
Not long after, the laboratory door opened. Annette had just entered after swiping her ID card at the access panel. She stepped inside and found Allen leaning back, waiting for the results of a new sample being tested.
"What are you doing?" Annette asked.
"I'm testing your new formula about the T-Virus," Allen replied. "You know, the formula is truly remarkable. I think we'll soon find a new serum. However, there still seem to be some side effects that need to be eliminated."
Some of those side effects included infertility and abnormal mutations that caused certain parts of the body to transform.
"Yes, even though that makes the T-Serum less effective, if combined with another serum, I think the problem can be solved," Allen continued.
In his mind, he was planning to combine the super soldier serum, the Extremis serum, and the T-Virus. He hoped that with this, he could enhance several aspects such as regeneration and reflexes—at the very least, he wanted his women to be able to withstand large-caliber bullets and even dodge them.
"So, did you manage to overcome the problem with the T–Virus?" Annette asked.
"Yeah, it doesn't seem like a big issue. This is also thanks to you, since you were able to separate some of the unnecessary components from the T–Virus," Allen replied.
Annette was indeed a genius in that regard, and Allen was truly grateful to be able to obtain the data he needed from her. Annette's gaze lingered on Allen, full of admiration. It seems my decision to help him wasn't wrong, Annette thought to herself.
"By the way, Annette… I hope you'll be careful around Spencer. I found several spies in the laboratory who seem to be watching William. And… you should also pay more attention to your husband," Allen said, trying to warn her. He didn't want Annette to get dragged into trouble because of her husband.
"I also found some irregularities in the case of Marcus' death, one of Umbrella's founders. It seems your husband and Spencer were involved in that case."
Annette, hearing such an accusation, was momentarily shocked. She couldn't believe Allen suspected her husband, but the man's serious gaze, filled with worry, shook her resolve. She wanted to get angry, but the concern for her own safety only left her more confused about what to do.
She knew about Dr. Marcus' death, and it seemed William had always kept it hidden from her.
"Alright, then I'll be more careful. And about your accusation against my husband… just consider you never said it," Annette replied flatly.
She remembered how, at first, when they met, she had even thought of killing Allen. But after getting to know him better, even becoming friends with him, she felt as if she were cheating on her husband… and that made her ashamed of herself.
Come to think of it, after more than a decade working at Umbrella, she had rarely interacted with the opposite sex. For intimacy, even with her own husband, it had long stopped—probably since she gave birth to their daughter.
"It's fine, I understand your doubts. I'm just worried about your safety," Allen said while gently taking Annette's hand.
"Is that really so? In that case—"
Ding…
Annette's words were cut short when the sound of the laboratory machine stopped. Inside the glass tube, a dark blue serum appeared.
"Looks like we did it, Annette," Allen said.
They immediately checked the data on the computer, and the results matched. Allen then took three new vials of serum—a combination of the Super Soldier serum, Extremis virus, and T–Virus. Amazingly, there was no rejection between the three serums.
"May I touch it?" Annette asked, her eyes sparkling in awe after seeing the data.
"Of course. After all, this is the result of our work together," Allen replied as he handed her the vial.
"Do you think I should personally test this serum?" Allen asked in a serious tone, as if wanting to see Annette's reaction.
"No… as a scientist and also your friend, I hope you don't do something foolish like a mad scientist, Allen. Please," Annette said sincerely. Reflexively, her hand gripped Allen's tightly, as if begging him to stop his intention.
Allen gave a faint smile.
"Relax, I won't do that. But I will test it on one of my bodyguards later. Annette, would you like to take one of the samples? Who knows, you might need it."
"No need," Annette answered quickly, though deep down she felt relieved to hear that Allen wouldn't recklessly use the serum himself.
"And also, you don't have to worry. I won't report your serum to anyone—not even to William."
"Thank you, Annette. I don't know what to say to you. Don't worry, after I finish testing it, I promise I'll come back and give you the same dose of serum."
"You don't have to do that, Allen." Annette spoke softly. She truly didn't need the serum, nor did she want to be indebted to him.
Allen stared at her deeply.
"You know, Umbrella uses the Arklay Mountains as a testing ground for their biological weapons. There have already been many cases of people disappearing there. I'm afraid a disaster will happen here soon too. With this serum, I'm sure I can protect the people I care about… including you. So please, don't refuse it."
Suddenly, Allen pulled Annette into his embrace. Strangely, the mature woman didn't resist. Instead, she stayed still, letting her body lean against his, her chest pressing against Allen's chest, as if savoring that brief forbidden warmth.
"By the way, Annette… I want to give you the first injection of my Super Soldier serum. Don't worry, I've already tested this serum. One of my bodyguards and even my wife also received the same injection, and now their physical condition is equal to that of a small elite unit."
"I told you, you don't need to do that, Allen," Annette replied, hesitant.
"Annette, this is for you. And this will also help you protect your family."
Annette fell silent. Allen's words made her reconsider. In the end, she nodded slightly, agreeing to his offer.
"Good. Then let's do it in your private room. Luckily, I brought my equipment," Allen said. He then pulled out a portable tube from the pocket of his coat. Annette immediately recognized it—Pym technology created by Allen. She was always amazed by the practicality of the man's tools, especially the mini Arc Reactor capable of producing energy equal to a nuclear reactor.
"Okay, if you're ready, take off all your clothes and step into the tube," Allen said seriously.
Annette felt embarrassed for a moment about having to be naked in front of Allen, but in the end she still did it. While covering her chest and crotch with both hands, she slowly stepped into the tube.
"Don't worry, the process won't take long," Allen reassured her.
After making sure all systems were running, Allen injected the Super Soldier serum into Annette's body. This serum was indeed an upgraded version of the one he had given Jill and Alex. Even though Annette wasn't the combat type—so the dose she uses is less than Alex, Jill and Lupo use, but this serum was more than enough to enhance her strength, stamina, and durability to the level of Captain Carter.
Allen enjoyed the view of Annette's beautiful body while waiting for the fusion process to finish. Besides being beautiful, Annette was also a smart woman in the field of biology. She was even one of the few people who knew about the G–Serum and was able to create its antivirus.
Allen thought that if one day he wanted to dig deeper into the G–Virus, Annette would be the right person to talk to.
Allen's gaze then shifted to the computer screen displaying the countdown. The process would take about three hours—relatively short because the dose used was different from his other women.
Three hours passed. The chamber slowly opened, revealing Annette who was now opening her eyes. She stepped out, her body looking much younger, as if she had returned to her twenties. Her face was fresh, the fine wrinkles around her eyes completely gone. She stood in front of the mirror, gazing at her reflection with a faint smile.
Her eyes then shifted to Allen, who was sleeping on the sofa. Annette almost approached him, but she realized she was still naked. She quickly put on her clothes; she knew if she didn't, that naughty man would surely tease her.
"Hey, Allen, wake up," Annette called softly.
Allen slowly woke up, rubbing his eyes. "Ohh… hey, Annette. So, how was it? Did the process go smoothly? Any side effects?" he asked, making sure Annette was fine.
"Well… I feel like my body is perfectly fine. In fact, now I feel full of energy, as if I could kill a cow with a single punch," she replied with a chuckle.
Allen smiled faintly. "Hmm, it seems you're still not used to your new strength. I hope you'll be more careful, use just a little strength when walking or touching something. Oh, how about we test your limits in the experiment room?"
"Okay," Annette replied briefly.
She then walked out, but not long after, the heels of her shoes broke easily—too fragile to withstand her new strength. Annette could only let out a small sigh. It seemed she really needed time to get used to her new body.
After conducting a series of tests, the results were quite satisfying. It could be said that Annette was now a version of Captain Carter in the Marvel universe—her body strong, fit, and full of energy. She was very happy with this change, because with her new strength, at the very least she could protect her family.
However, Annette was not a fool. She realized that even though her body was much stronger now, it didn't mean she could easily defeat bioweapons, let alone face a Tyrant. Her combat skills were still very low, and confronting Umbrella directly was nothing but a dangerous dream. In fact, if she were captured, she feared her new body would only become material for their serum experiments.
The silence of the room was suddenly broken when Annette's stomach growled loudly. Her face immediately turned red with embarrassment.
Allen gave a small smile. "Hey, how about we eat outside? After all, it's already lunchtime."
Annette turned and nodded quickly. "Of course… I won't refuse that invitation."
With that, the two of them left the laboratory and walked toward a café within the area of Raccoon City University, a place where researchers usually relaxed while having lunch.
When they went out, they were greeted by Mark. "Hello Allen and Mrs. Birkin, are you going out for lunch?"
"Yep… hey Mark, can you lend me your vehicle? We want to go to the university for lunch."
Allen hadn't brought his own vehicle when he went to the lab since the distance between his apartment and the lab wasn't far.
"Of course, here's my car key," Mark casually handed his car key to Allen.
"Thanks, I'll bring you some snacks later."
"Hahaha, okay. I have to go now since there's a security meeting soon."
After that, Mark went to the elevator and headed to the upper floors of the building.
"Allen, you seem to know that security guy quite well," Annette asked curiously. It seemed Allen was the type who got along easily and had many friends.
"Yeah, something like that. He's someone I can trust…"
Then they walked toward the parking area while talking about how they first met Mark and other things along the way to the university.
