Primrose tilted her head slightly and asked softly, "What if I need a little more time?"
"No." Edmund's tone left no room for argument. "Thirty minutes. That's all. He has to leave when the time's up."
Well, technically, Edmund wouldn't be there to enforce it himself, so maybe she could ask the soldiers to give her a bit more time?
"The soldiers won't give you extra time either." His words shattered that thought instantly. "This time, they're only following my orders."
Primrose sighed, her shoulders sinking. "Alright. Thirty minutes, then."
It wasn't much, but it might be enough. If she did it right, maybe she could get the secret words in time.
"I'm sorry," Edmund whispered. He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it gently, over and over again. "I'm not trying to control you. I just … I won't be able to leave in peace if I don't know you're safe."
[She's not mad at me, is she? What should I do if she is?]
[Maybe I should bring her a gift when I get back later.]
