Chapter 381 – On the Road

It could be said that the area around the gate of the Beaver Community was the most intense place on the entire battlefield. The soldiers of this place, who had received orders to defend the entrance to the death, quickly gathered and formed a defensive formation, suppressing the enemies and preventing them from advancing.

And a large number of rebels who appeared out of nowhere, all of them with red eyes, charged desperately and almost frantically pushed forward, rushing toward both sides of the entrance gate, disregarding their lives as long as they could keep advancing.

What's more, with bombs strapped to their bodies, they ran forward recklessly, getting as close as possible to the groups at the entrance and launching an almost suicidal charge.

"Advance, don't let them get close!"

At the last defensive line of the Beaver Community, Reginald gripped the railing tightly, looked at the large number of enemies coming from the distance with an extremely tense expression, and shouted at the people, trying to give coherent orders in this situation.

Why were they being attacked? Why did everything turn out this way, why did it come to this? Where did these people come from?

Countless questions swirled through Reginald's mind, but the tragic situation around him did not allow him to think too much, so he could only push those questions to the back of his mind for now.

Vroom!

At that moment, Reginald suddenly heard the roar of engines behind the crowd of rebels at the front, and then two military trucks appeared in his field of vision.

Under his incredulous gaze, those trucks completely crushed all the enemies in their path and continued moving forward, driving at high speed the entire time.

"They're ours!"

Seeing this situation, Reginald's eyes filled with joy. With these two military trucks causing chaos among the enemy crowd, it would give them more time to regain control.

But before he could be happy for long, the smile on his face froze.

Reginald was horrified to discover that after the two military trucks ran over the rebels, they charged straight toward the fence gate.

"Stop those trucks, don't let them come through!"

Without time to think, he immediately called on others to open wild fire on the military trucks, trying to stop them from advancing.

But the people in the military trucks seemed insane, hiding under the seats like rabbits in their burrows. Even though bullets rained down on them, they still rushed forward regardless.

Boom!

The fences were smashed apart by the military trucks, and the defensive line that had just been organized behind the fences was instantly destroyed as well.

Just as the soldiers of the Beaver Community were about to fire, they were struck by a large amount of supplies thrown from the trucks, and they did not attack immediately. By the time they opened fire, the two military trucks had already pulled some distance away.

No matter how they shot, it was useless, and they could only watch the two vehicles rush out through the gate of the isolation area.

The defensive point that the Beaver Community had just organized was immediately destroyed, and the rebel army, like sharks smelling blood, became even more ferocious, as if victory were within reach.

On the other hand, the Beaver Community fell into chaos, and the defensive line began to retreat step by step. Fortunately, there were officers within the ranks who commanded in time, so they managed to stabilize the line of defense again with the few people they had.

And just at that moment, something suddenly appeared in the sky, approaching at high speed, and then two objects flew toward the enemies of the Beaver Community. Under everyone's incredulous gaze, two missiles headed straight into the crowd of enemies who were slaughtering innocents and suddenly exploded.

Boom! Boom!

"Everyone, take cover!"

Outside the Beaver Community area.

Jack struggled to straighten himself from under the seat, shook his body to shake off the shards of glass that had fallen on him, and a strong wind rushed into the vehicle through the windowless frame.

Suddenly, a sharp pain shot out from his back. He reached out to touch it and felt a burst of dampness in his palm. He pulled his hand back and looked down—it was actually covered in blood.

Jack turned his head and took a glance, discovering that the back of his seat was densely covered with bullet holes. If he hadn't been taking cover, it was possible that the armor of his combat suit wouldn't have been able to protect him and he would have died.

He then looked at Emma and the other soldier, who were still obediently hiding beside him, and said, "Alright, everyone get up."

There was no additional damage to them, and Jack's voice sounded again. Emma slowly raised her head and looked around.

Everything about the rain of bullets had scared her stiff. This kind of battlefield situation was something she had never experienced before.

"Everything… is okay…?"

An unfamiliar man also stood up. Looking at the seats and the body of the military truck full of bullet holes, he patted his chest as well, fear still lingering in his heart.

After confirming that both of them were fine, Jack unconsciously looked at the rearview mirror outside the truck, wanting to see what had happened to the other truck.

It was just that the rearview mirror outside the vehicle had already been shattered, so he couldn't see behind. With no other choice, he leaned his head out.

When the truck behind saw Jack leaning out, it flashed its headlights several times, then urgently raised a hand and made an OK gesture.

Seeing the military truck driving behind them and receiving the signal that everything was fine, Jack immediately felt relieved and pulled his head back in to focus on driving.

The military truck sped along the main road, but it didn't go far before turning directly onto a small road at a fork.

Although they had successfully left the Beaver Community area, they were still in a dangerous zone after all, and they still needed to get in contact with their squad as soon as possible.

After all, they were on an operation, and the explosions just now must have been air support. Therefore, sending a report as soon as possible was necessary.

They didn't rush ahead, but instead parked the two trucks on a secluded road, got out of the vehicles, and entered a small nearby office building.

It wasn't that they didn't want to leave this place. They knew that the surrounding situation was probably very bad for movement at the moment. They had to be extremely careful, and for now, Jack only sent the soldier to get in contact with the squad that was waiting for them.

In addition, Emma's injury would not be able to withstand the next part of the journey, and her wound had to be treated first.

A group of people entered the office building through the side door. Jack handed some gauze he had found in the truck to someone and asked him to help Emma remove the bullet and bandage the wound.

Then he asked others to search the office building and took the soldier back to the truck, saying, "I need you to return to the squad as soon as possible, report what happened, and wait."

"No problem, leave it to me."

Looking at the two trucks riddled with bullet holes, the soldier patted his chest to calm himself and then walked toward the front of the truck.

Jack walked to the rear of the vehicle and looked into the cargo compartment. He soon saw that the inside was incomparably messy, and the packed crates were piled sideways. Originally, the back had still been full when they left the carriage, but now it had been reduced by half.

Reaching in and rummaging around, Jack quickly found some simple maintenance tools and handed them to the soldier.

Then he took some empty boxes and filled them with food, and then carried the boxes into the office building.

Just as Jack was carrying things inside, the sound of several trucks was heard in the distance. He quickly ran to the window, hid himself, and observed the situation outside.

Dozens of military trucks could be seen advancing along the nearby main road, heading toward the Beaver Community area.

At the rear of the convoy, many heavily armed men followed them, jogging and marching to keep pace, lined up two by two, with no end in sight.

"Who are these people?"

As Jack was observing the convoy, a man named Luis came up to him at some point and said with a sigh, "They're from the support bases. They should be heading to the base to support the attack."

"Then the community you belong to is very strong…"

"Well, something like that, but in the end there's always a division of power that prevents us from prospering together… damn idiots."
