Chapter 306 - No Way Out

Adam's expression finally changed, and he shouted in disbelief.

"No way! Is that true or not?"

"Hahaha, isn't it? Some things were so funny I could barely contain myself this afternoon."

Hearing this, Adam finally understood why two waves of people had arrived, yet he wasn't called to participate in the hunt. It turned out no bullets were needed to catch them.

The few people took advantage of lunchtime to chat passionately, and gradually the afternoon arrived.

By seven o'clock, Adam had returned to his room. Thinking about what Alex had just said, he couldn't help but smile. Those people in the afternoon were really determined to give them enough food to survive another month.

Although he constantly complained about being tired every day, the more exhausted they were, the less hungry they would be.

Cannibalism had evolved from a minor resistance at first into something natural for the people at the terminal nowadays. In this world, what could be easier and safer than cannibalism?

There was no need to risk going outside for supplies, and no need to worry about recruiting newcomers. All it took was a butcher like him who could do the job well—that was all this place needed.

Lying on his bed, Adam had countless thoughts running through his mind. He felt his eyelids growing heavier and heavier, and his physical exhaustion made it impossible to resist sleep any longer, so he soon fell asleep.

...

Groggy, Adam woke up needing to urinate. After more than two hours of sleep, he didn't feel relaxed; on the contrary, he hadn't really rested at all with all these nightmares.

Tossing and turning in bed, the urge to pee grew stronger, and finally he couldn't resist sitting up.

"Damn it! I shouldn't have drunk so much water at night! I knew this would happen…"

Cursing as he got up, Adam walked toward the door. Before standing, he glanced at the young man on the bed across from him, who was snoring deeply.

Click!

The door opened, and Adam stepped out with his eyes closed. Years of muscle memory allowed him to walk to the bathroom without opening them.

But tonight, the hallway seemed different. A sharp, acrid smell hit his nose, and his body collided with something rough and rigid.

The sudden accident snapped him out of his grogginess. He quickly opened his eyes to see what was happening. But at that very moment, the scene before him made him die inside instantly!

Rotten faces had already moved in front of him, and a walker at the forefront bit his nose directly. The severe pain made him scream loudly.

"Ahhh! Help me!"

The walker jerked its head back, pulling away from his face, and the two walkers behind bit his shoulders and throat respectively—one on the left, one on the right.

The roaring stopped immediately. Blood poured from the gaping wound in his throat, covering his body in moments. The warm blood flowed down uncontrollably, and the weakness and lack of air in his lungs blurred his vision until everything went silent.

But his earlier screams were enough to wake some people in the surrounding rooms. Many woke from their sleep and opened their doors, searching for the source of the sound. Naturally, they were met by the frenzied embrace of the walkers.

The smell of blood quickly filled the hallway, and soon more and more screams erupted. At this point, more people woke up, and the same scene repeated. Gradually, the rest realized something was wrong, and they got up one by one to listen at their doors before opening them.

And the moment they pressed their ears to the door, the roar entered their ears.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunshots rang outside the window, waking the few people still in their dreams. They sat up, confused. But when they heard several screams from outside the door, they were instantly stunned.

What was happening?

Where were they?

After a brief period of mental blankness, fear exploded. Countless thoughts raced through everyone's mind, and finally they looked at their companions, all coming to the same conclusion:

The undead!

Some of those who weren't fully aware of the outside situation approached the door, listening to the movement outside.

Roar! Screaming! Ahhh!

"Walkers!"

Several sounds reached their ears. These people were so scared that their bodies began to weaken. They didn't realize it was an attack. Their first thought was that something had gone wrong, which had led to the walkers appearing here.

Gareth also hid in a room, not coming out. At that moment, he stood behind a door with wrinkled clothes on his body, but one thing everyone shared was a terrified face. Gareth turned his head to look at a woman.

The woman beside him raised her arms over the door and asked, "What should we do?"

"Shut up!"

Gareth immediately covered her mouth with his hand, gesturing for silence, and pulled her toward the window. "Don't go out yet. We have to stay here and be quiet!"

Suddenly, his nose twitched as he smelled a faint scent of gasoline. Gareth looked curiously out the window and saw a dark figure standing there, with dozens of figures behind him.

That was not a good sign!

They were being attacked!

The thought flashed quickly through his mind, but in the distance Gareth saw the man suddenly holding a small flash of light in his hand.

Soon he realized it was a lighter, and the faint glow illuminated the other person's face, making them tremble. The woman beside him screamed upon seeing it.

The face of that person was clearly that of a walker!

After a brief pause, the lighter in that figure's hand was thrown, and the faint arc of flame traced a beautiful path in the air. The dark figure then turned and walked away, leaving only a blurred back for the two of them.

Flames!

A sudden burst of intense flames erupted fiercely, shooting up outside the wall in an instant!

The two squeezed their eyes shut under the sudden bright light, hiding in the corner of the wall to shield themselves.

"Is that a human or a ghost?"

"Don't be stupid, it must be a human! These guys want to trap us inside this building!"

"Then what should we do? Let's jump out the window!"

Gareth had calmed down now. He reflected for a moment, then shook his head.

"No, the other side is well-prepared, and we would probably fall into their hands as soon as we left that way."

"If we don't leave, we'll burn to death!"

Gritting his teeth, Gareth decided to take a risk. "Wait! Our exit must be a surprise to avoid disaster."

Crash! Crash!

The sound of breaking glass rang twice, and the two rushed to the corner by the window to look outside. They saw two figures running through the window, flames trailing on their bodies.

"It's Albert and Mike!"

The woman was so excited she wanted to call for help, but Gareth covered her mouth forcefully. She turned, confused, and saw his tense face.

Bang! Bang!

Just as they stepped outside and moved a few steps forward, two shots rang out in the distance. The woman turned just in time to see the two fall to the ground.

"God! They're trying to kill us all."

The people in the room fell into a brief silence, and no one jumped out the window for a while. The worst-off were those on the second and third floors. There was no way out for them—neither through the front door nor the window…

The furious fire grew higher and higher, slowly burning from the first floor to the second. Thick smoke began pouring from the window openings. The people in the rooms had no choice but to block it with clothes and wet blankets, but they knew this could only hold the situation temporarily.

However, the other side had no intention of letting them rest. A burst of gunfire shattered several first-floor windows. The flames, fueled by air, entered the room, quickly igniting curtains and other objects. The few things used to block the windows and doors were now also on fire.

Accompanied by occasional screams, thick smoke began entering the room, and everyone's expressions changed drastically. This meant they had no way out!

Just as they fell into anxiety, the container in the backyard opened up a space again.
