Chapter 21 - 3 Way Battle

-OUTSIDE THE DREAM WORLD-

As the Cold Hearted stood & watched the Adrenaline Junkie, a thought crossed her mind.

'I could kill this fool right now.'

To her, she had killed so many people, she no longer looked at the ethics of murder. Especially not someone as ruthless as the Adrenaline Junkie. In reality, if she killed someone like him, the world would likely be much greater.

As she slowly raised her hands, cold, fierce crystals of ice formed. Just as she was about to end his life, someone ripped through the forest, screaming full volume.

The Cold Hearted stared down in confusion, but she could see it!

In the distance, a giant monster with several wings, surrounded by nothing but eyes. It looked grotesque, horrific fleshy tentacles flying through the monsters body. It's bones and flesh were rearranged in a way that would incite sickness. It looked ugly, unnatural, and it certainly spooked the hell out of the Cold Hearted.

It was her! The Chaotic Demon that had been wreaking havoc lately: The Shapeshifter!

Unfortunately, behind her, even more trouble followed. Giant bolts of red lightning rained through the sky, but it was getting abnormally stronger. It was like God's wrath had completely taken over the war torn nation. As many people died to this lightning, the Cold Hearted instantly found the source of that lightning. A man, who looked surprisingly calm, was controlling this powerful storm of death. As the battle came closer to the Cold Hearted, she decided to protect herself with a giant barrier of ice.

As she was being protected, she saw the man, manipulating the lightning from the sky. His face looked familiar, and he exuded an aura of fear and power. It was as if he was entirely confident in what he was doing. Nobody could stop him. He was too powerful!

As the Cold Hearted tried to escape, the barrier that holds in the war torn nation stopped her. "WHAT!?"

She fell on her back, and then touched the invisible barrier, definitely feeling it there

She screamed it in shock. She couldn't understand it. The barrier was far, far away. Her and the Adrenaline Junkie both left the edge of the war torn nation a long time ago. So, why? Why was the barrier so close? She couldn't understand it! The barrier was shrinking!

As the shapeshifter raced closer to the Cold Hearted & the barrier, she immediately realized that something was wrong.

A man in the back, she recognized him! It was Road, the really weird guy who was working with the energy psycho.

As a million lightning bolts rained out, she realized she couldn't kill the Adrenaline Junkie. She needed an ally to fight this 3 way battle.

Road, flying in a giant flash of giant lightning rain, ripped across the sky. He didn't say much, clearly focusing on killing the Shapeshifter.

As S came across, she instantly noticed that the Cold Hearted & the Adrenaline Junkie were there. On instinct, she tried to kill the Adrenaline Junkie, but the Cold Hearted stopped her, barely blocking her hit with a giant forcefield of ice.

The shapeshifter instantly thought, inside her mind: The Adrenaline Junkie! If he dies, maybe my benefactor will be able to revive! I'm not quite sure how it works, but its better to try. No! That's not right, it was stupid to attack him.

She now realized that she made an incredibly bad move. First of all, she was in a 3 way battle, so if she attacked the third party, clearly she would have less allies. She already lost her advantage by not thinking properly about the situation.

Secondly, she forgot, just for a split second, that her benefactor needed the Adrenaline Junkie's body in order to revive. If she killed the Adrenaline Junkie, she'd likely set her benefactor back, forcing her benefactor to choose to revive in a different way. She needed the Adrenaline Junkie alive. All this time, trying to kill the Adrenaline Junkie, she'd been going against her benefactor.

At that moment, she thought for a second, and said "Screw it!", as she sprouted wings of flesh and bone, and flew into the air.

She really stopped caring at this moment. She wanted her benefactor to return, but killing the Adrenaline Junkie was still the best option in this situation, regardless of her end goal. The reason was because this was a giant 3 way battle, and the Adrenaline Junkie was her enemy. If the Adrenaline Junkie woke up while she was fighting Road, it would mean that she'd have to fight 3 people at the same time, all Chaotic Demons who were hungry for blood.

In her mind, she apologized to her benefactor for what she was about to do. At the end of the day, she did want her benefactor to come back, but she wanted to live above all else. If she didn't eliminate the Freedom Junkie right now, she'd certainly die in this battle.

She steeled her resolve, and attacked again, but before attacking, a woman appeared in her vision.

"LIBERTAS!" S screamed out in terror. It really was her. No. This woman looked slightly different. As S looked around, she realized that nobody else could see this woman.

"My name is lake", the woman said. "I don't exist in this plane of reality, so I can only appear in people's minds or in their dreams. I don't have a physical form. Regardless, I will not allow you to kill this man. He must wake up, first. Libertas will use the last of her influence to help you."

S suddenly realized it. That's why the Adrenaline Junkie teleported S to the War Torn Nation. It was because he was being controlled by the shapeshifter's benefactor while sleeping. He was being controlled by Libertas while asleep. All of a sudden, the 3 way battle began.

As Road closed in on them, he noticed the Cold Hearted, and smiled. "I see, you're here too. I'll kill you as well." He didn't even bother to strategize & trick the cold hearted to be on his side, he was supremely confident in his ability to kill them both.

As giant streaks of red lightning fired across the land, the Cold Hearted encased the Adrenaline Junkie in an ice cage, protecting him from outside forces. Road then attacked her with giant blasts of lightning, as S tried to take advantage of the opportunity to run. Quickly, after being bomboarded by lightning, the Cold Hearted realized that she wasn't nearly strong enough to beat Road. She decided to create another ice cage, trapping all 3 of them inside. She didn't want the Shapeshifter to escape. If the Cold Hearted was gonna die, she'd make sure to bring down others with her.

And just as soon as the fearsome battle began, the smaller ice cage, surrounding the Adrenaline Junkie, started to crack. The cold hearted looked, in happiness, realizing that the Adrenaline Junkie was waking up.

S, on the other hand, believed that the Adrenaline Junkie was still asleep, and that it was Libertas trying to control his body while he slept.

"NO!" Road screamed in panic. He was confident in dealing with this situation against 2 Chaotic Demons, since if he lost, he could just run away. Neither of these 2 had the speed to catch up with him. But adding a third into the mix, that has the power to teleport, was disasterous. He had to kill him now!

Road summoned his strongest lightning blast, and threw it right towards the ice cage, trying to sear through the cage & kill the Adrenaline Junkie outright, but he failed, and at that instance, the Adrenaline Junkie woke up.

As he got up, Road tried to escape, while the Adrenaline Junkie teleported into the sky.

"Miss me?"

He said it with such a cocky, confident tone that one couldn't help but respect it. Road instantly flew away, but the Cold Hearted screamed out. "Dumbass! Kill him!"

The adrenaline junkie looked up at Road, and sighed. "Nah. I wanna see what happens if we let him escape."

The Cold Hearted was now furiously enraged. "YOU LITTLE SHIT!" She screamed out, trying to catch up to Road. But unfortunately, it was too late, she wasn't nearly fast enough.

Meanwhile, S was in terror. She now had to deal with 2 enemies. She believed that Libertas was controlling the Adrenaline Junkie, but now he was awake. This was a very bad situation to be in, she had to fight 2 Chaotic Demons.

The Cold Hearted screamed at the Adrenaline Junkie. "Why'd you let him leave, we coulda killed that jackass!"

The Adrenaline Junkie responded. "It's no fun if we just got rid of our enemies easily. Wouldn't it be more fun to risk death by keeping them alive?"

The adrenaline junkie ignored the cold hearted's rant, and said to her. "That doesn't matter right now. We have S over there, she's an enemy. If you're mad at me, we could kill her instead."

That shocked S. The way he said it so casually struck her with fear. It was so suffocating that she almost puked. S tried to escape, but the ice cold barrier was so thick that she couldn't see the outside. She was trapped.

"I'm fucked." She said out loud, with a terrified expression, until the Adrenaline Junkie said something else.

"Never mind. I don't feel like killing her either. She will definitely bring me a lot of entertainment in the future. Plus, I'm still a bit sentimental about the time we spent together."

He walked over to S, sat down, and said something very interesting.

"S, would you like to join our team?" He said, showcasing a devious smile.

S looked at him in confusion, and asked, "Why?"

The Adrenaline Junkie laughed. "Well, I think that you could help us kill the Adrenaline Junkie. Consider our past fights as water under the bridge. Plus, the idea of you trying to kill me in the future fills me with excitement. The more danger im in, the more I enjoy life.

S looked over at the Cold Hearted, who only buried her hand in her face, as if she was embarrassed that a person could so easily risk their life by having an enemy join the group.

The Cold Hearted gave up trying to convince the Adrenaline Junkie of anything at this point, and only now realized that he was so irrational that convincing him was pointless. If he promised to do something, he'd probably just go back on his word the second that something beneficial to him occurred. He was entirely self centered, and didn't care about anyone but himself, and his own enjoyment of life.

The Cold Hearted might be a murderer, but she still cared about a lot of people. She didn't want to see children or animals get hurt, and while she was okay with killing innocent people, she still wouldn't do it for no reason. The Adrenaline Junkie, on the other hand, likely didn't care about any of that. He'd probably kill a child just because they annoyed him.

S looked up, and said "What's in it for me" she said.

As she said that, the Adrenaline Junkie told her. "Well, first, we can double team you and kill you right now, but we won't do that. Secondly, we're trying to kill the Energy Psycho, so it'll definitely be fun. I don't really know if you'd gain anything from it, but we'd surely find it fun if you'd join!"

The Cold Hearted winced at the word, 'We'.

He'd inserted her into the conversation unwillingly, and she couldn't do anything to correct him.

"So, how about it? You ready to join us?" The Adrenaline Junkie said.

S only looked in silence, before bringing out her hand, and saying, in a very odd tone. "Partners?"

It seemed that she had agreed to his offer.

As the Adrenaline Junkie gave a sadistic smile, thinking about all the horrific acts that 3 Chaotic Demons could do, he said, in a very disturbing tone.

"Yes. Partners."

-MEANWHILE, AT ANOTHER PLACE IN THE WAR TORN NATION-

The dimension god sighed. "It seems as if those Chaotic Demons are getting even crazier. I suppose its time to find the Freedom Junkie."

She had been looking for the Adrenaline Junkie for a while now, but was unable to find him. She couldn't do anything of note until she found out where he was within the war torn country.

As she looked at the barrier closing in on the war torn nation, she made a horrifying realization.

"The barrier's closing in. The war torn nation is getting smaller."

Of course, the barrier kept people in, but it couldn't keep people out. Anyone could come inside as they pleased, despite the fact that the guerillas would consider them enemies & would instantly try to annihilate them.

The invisible barrier that surrounds the war torn nation had closed in on itself. It was getting smaller. This was bad. Every time the barrier closes in, the people of the war torn nation become that much more angry.

She sat back down, slumped over her seat, and wondered.

What would happen when the barrier closed in all the way?
