After Darren had tied up the man and was ready to check on Gina and move on, he received a call. Picking up, he heard Mary's panicked voice:
"Master, I was attacked by some people who tried to kidnap me!"
Darren was shocked. "Are you okay?" he asked urgently.
Mary answered shakily, and though she wasn't held hostage, Darren could sense her fear.
"No, they weren't able to. When they tried touching me, the master's collar killed them."
At first, Darren was confused, then surprised. He had read something about the system's protective measures, but he hadn't realized it was this extreme. Still, he wasn't comfortable leaving them alone. Given how easily they had found Mary—and how skilled the man he'd just fought was—Darren was certain the Organization had ways to restrain or capture his women before they could react.
"Mary, I'll send you a location. Come there immediately. Don't bother bringing anything—I'll provide all your daily necessities," he instructed before hanging up.
Just as he was about to call Rose and Sofi, they called him first. Realizing it was the same situation, he gave them the same instructions. Next, he called Willow, telling her to return to the same location as well.
Darren was fed up with the Organization and its antics, but the real problem was that he didn't know who they were or where to find them. That was the main reason he hadn't retaliated yet—his enemy operated in the shadows while he remained exposed.
Frustrated, he turned to Gina, checking her over to ensure she was unharmed. Finding no injuries, he slung the unconscious man over his shoulder, and the two made their way out of the park. Though Gina was curious about what had happened, the seriousness on Darren's face kept her from asking. She trusted he would explain everything when the time was right.
When they reached the park's exit, a car was already waiting for them. Darren had called the restaurant to have his car brought to their location, and the valet had complied without question. Taking the keys, Darren and Gina got in, and he sped off as if they were being chased.
To Darren's advantage though not openly acknowledged by Valley View's government his family were the city's unofficial rulers. Aside from matters of national security or outright defiance of the government, nearly anything could be overlooked or forgiven with a single phone call.
Though Darren rarely used this privilege, it was one he possessed. That was why his reckless speeding went unchallenged no one was foolish enough to report him to the police.
In a matter of minutes, Darren was speeding outside the city at inhuman speeds, terrifying Gina to the point where it was certain she had peed her pants. Though it didn't seem like they were being chased, Darren wasn't so sure—but that didn't matter.
If they can't follow me, they'll go after the others, he thought. At least, that's what I would've done.
The reason for his urgency was simple: he needed enough time to prepare before the others arrived. He had to secure a defensible position.
After ten minutes of breakneck driving, Darren screeched to a halt in front of a weird, bunker-like building, its roof the only visible part above ground. He recognized it instantly—after all, he had personally commissioned its construction.
Gina, dizzy and nauseous from the ride, stumbled out of the car and immediately vomited her dinner onto the dirt. After retching for a minute, she shot Darren a resentful glare—but he was too preoccupied to notice.
Moving to the back seat, he hauled the unconscious man over his shoulder and strode toward the structure. Behind the slanted roof sat a boulder the size of a car.
It looked like an occasional huge boulder found in nature, and to an unsuspecting person, it did look out of place. But to Darren, this was the genius of the design. Pressing a specific spot on the stone, an elevator gate opened, its lights shining on Darren's face.
Entering the elevator, Gina—who was done with her business—quickly followed. As the elevator began to descend, Darren's tense heart was no longer as obvious. After all, although his design was based off his less-matured fantasy, it had cost a lot of money to build and keep secret.
In less than one minute, the underground elevator opened on the lowest floor of the building. It was a room almost the size of a small football field, with rows of shelves on full display. Guns were placed neatly on the shelves. Darren's smile almost broke the back of his head, he was so happy with this bunker.
The truth is, this warehouse had been used by him and his family to deal weapons to the government and collect government contracts. But since Gina was particularly interested in weapons, he had left it to her.
Taking in a deep breath, Darren went shelf by shelf to put the guns into his storage spaces to replicate them. As Darren was busy replicating the guns and boxes of bullets, Gina took the opportunity to go to the bathroom and freshen up.
After Darren finished, he walked up to the chair he had tied the man to when he got there. Slapping the man awake, Darren looked deeply at him to make sure he was not missing something. After all, these people knew him like the back of their hand, which made Darren very wary and uncomfortable. It is, after all, very strange for all your actions to be studied by someone without your consent.
