Back at Maya Village, the residents took a couple of days to rest, ensuring their wounds would heal properly. During this time, August found himself with little work to occupy his time.
A somber event had transpired: two of the newly rescued individuals had passed away just two days after their arrival. They were both elderly, and it was understandable that their bodies could no longer heal effectively from the ordeals they had endured. Though lamentable, the villagers had done everything within their power to give them a fighting chance at survival. After they passed, the community held a small yet solemn burial ceremony in the village graveyard, paying their respects to the fallen strangers.
The remaining newcomers had shared valuable information before their passing. They were apparently escaped slaves who had been scheduled for sale at some distant marketplace. Their slave caravan had been ambushed by a pack of Grimfangs, and amid the chaos, they seized the opportunity to flee from their captors. According to their accounts, they had been traversing the forest floor for many days (or weeks) before encountering August's group. They had lost track of time during their desperate flight, hiding from the myriad of beasts that roamed the forest's wilderness.
The journey had been fraught with misfortune. They couldn't accurately estimate how many of their original group had survived the ordeal, nor where any other survivors might be—if they had survived at all. Their initial group had numbered in the hundreds, but now they were reduced to merely four individuals.
Among the survivors was Donna Campton, a teenage girl (age 15) with a spark of resilience still burning in her eyes despite all she had witnessed. Another was Andy Shoor, an older man who carried himself with quiet dignity despite his harrowing experiences. The remaining two survivors were girls approximately Donna's age, but unlike her, they remained withdrawn and reclusive, clearly traumatized by their harrowing experiences.
These two unnamed teenage girls would stare blankly at the ceiling, the window, their food bowls, or whatever happened to be in their line of sight. They barely spoke, if at all, and only timidly when requesting for assistance when absolutely necessary. The villagers decided to give them space to recover their lost sense of self, focusing instead on their own recovery from their wounds both outside and inside. While the villagers did the same, it was for the battle with the K'tharr. Though it was different for August as most of his wounds had already healed completely.
The proposed village tour to the newcomers was thus limited to just Donna and Andy. As the two teenage girls were still unresponsive to their queries, which was understandable, they were survivors of a fate worse than death, they were reluctant to make conversation and had confined themselves to their rooms. There wasn't much to showcase in the modest settlement anyway, and the brevity of the tour acknowledged the uncertainty of whether these newcomers would choose to remain in the humble enclave. If they decided to leave, the villagers would respect their choice, having no deep connections to bind them. However, should they opt to stay, they would need to find roles that suited their abilities and contributed to the undermanned community.
While the two traumatized girls represented a burden of care, the villagers unanimously agreed to shelter them out of compassion and human decency. Fortunately, resources were not scarce; they had ample living space, sufficient food stores, and the surrounding forest provided nearly limitless supplies for those who knew how to harvest them.

As August closed his [PERSONAL PANEL] for the day, a sense of satisfaction washed over him.
