Anna invited Arabel to the guest room on the ground floor, where she and her husband had woken up that morning.
"So what do you want?" Arabel asked bluntly as soon as they were alone. There was no fake joy in her voice that she had shown before.
"Oh, how quickly you changed your tone as soon as we were alone," Anna remarked with a slight smirk.
"I asked you what you wanted and why you brought me here," Arabel repeated her question.
"What's wrong with a mother wanting to talk to her daughter?" Anna replied with a slight smile.
"A mother who hasn't been involved in anything for most of her children's lives," Arabel added. "Tell me, were we important to you before the disaster happened and Arslan became an awakened one?"
Anna was silent, just staring at her daughter. She could see that Arabel wasn't very happy to see them. And, of course, Anna wasn't surprised.
