Nick Fury stood in the command center, his face darkened.
Loki said nothing, nor did he make any move. He just quietly stayed in his cell.
"Dr. Banner, any updates?" Nick Fury asked.
"No, although we've scanned many areas, the range is still vast. If you don't trust me, I can ask someone else," Dr. Banner replied.
Dr. Banner was the only one who was truly working hard, using algorithms to locate the Cosmic Cube, and even attempting to update the system.
Although he knew where it was, he still wanted to rely on the algorithm to pinpoint the exact location.
"I trust you, Doctor. You've contributed a lot to this world. I'm just worried that Loki might use the Cosmic Cube to harm Earth," Nick Fury said.
"Then what do you intend to do with the Cosmic Cube? Stage Two?" Tony asked, while examining some files on a tablet from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s database.
"I'd like to know that too," Steve said, as he brought over a large cannon-like object and placed it on the table.
Behind him, Natasha shrugged at Nick Fury, signaling she couldn't stop the captain.
"Oh, and this, a weapon of mass destruction. You guys changed careers to become arms dealers? Need me to provide some experience?" Tony displayed the weapon on the big screen — a missile containing the Cosmic Cube, powerful enough to destroy the world.
"Care to explain?" Steve stared at Nick Fury.
"Alright! You want to know why? I'll tell you, it's because of the Demon King!" Nick Fury pointed towards the direction of New York.
"Because of the demon invasion a year ago! Because of his Superman-like strength! Because this world has no Batman!!!"
"Captain, Tony, Dr. Banner, even the President, you're all working for him. The forces I can find to oppose him are also working for him. He's more dangerous than Superman in the comics. He has no bottom line or sense of justice. He kills, he greedily takes the wealth of the rich, and he manipulates others to work for him."
"That's why I need weapons — weapons to destroy the Demon King, weapons to protect the world. Understand?!"
Nick Fury's roar echoed throughout the lab. These emotions, long suppressed within him, finally erupted. He was watching helplessly as the country was about to fall under the Demon King's control, and he felt powerless.
"…All you want is to be Batman? Honestly, the only thing you don't have in common is the black suit. You have nothing in common with him," Tony said.
Tony suddenly began to understand Nick Fury. He had had similar thoughts at the beginning.
Fearing the Demon King would control humanity and rule Earth.
But after continuous exposure to parallel universes, the hellish scenes, and plans involving the Zyrtan people's spaceship, Tony realized the Earth was too small for him.
Even if the Demon King followed him, all of humanity could benefit greatly. He himself was proof of that.
"I don't know whether your thoughts are right or wrong, but at the Demon Group, the limb regeneration serum has never made a lot of money off civilians."
"Also, after the demon invasion, global crime rates dropped by a fifth. This has never happened in history," Dr. Banner continued to update the algorithm.
"Since its establishment, the Demon Group has never harmed the world. But Nick Fury, your actions almost destroyed the world!" Steve angrily punched the cannon, smashing it to pieces.
The boss had said that Nick Fury wasn't part of Hydra, but now, to Steve, he seemed worse than Hydra. At least Hydra had started doing good things.
Natasha sighed helplessly, wishing she could retire.
Ding-ding-ding!
The alarm suddenly went off in the command center.
"What's happening?" Nick Fury asked.
"Director, the Cosmic Cube has appeared," the intelligence officer replied, opening a screen. Stark Tower was visible, with a massive blue light beam piercing the sky, opening a huge hole several hundred meters wide.
"Everyone move out, head to New York!"
The air battleship remained still, floating in the sky.
"I'll go ahead," Tony said, putting on his armor and flying towards New York. A scene like this can't be missed by me.
"If the item's been found, then you don't need me," Dr. Banner said, opening the Hell portal.
"Dr. Banner, give me a ride," Steve said, picking up his shield and stepping into the portal.
"What are you doing?! I ordered you to go to New York!" Nick Fury shouted, pulling out his gun and pointing it at one of them, feeling uneasy.
"Sorry, Director. We received orders. The Sky Mother ship isn't qualified to join the battlefield; it will only become cannon fodder," the person calmly replied.
"Whose orders?!" Nick Fury bellowed.
"The Demon King's orders, Fury," the door to the command center opened, and Pierce, accompanied by an armed crossbones squad, entered.
"Pierce! Why?" Nick Fury asked, filled with disbelief.
"Of course, it's for this world. Joining the Demon King will make the world bigger and better," Pierce replied.
"Long live the Demon King!"
The entire command center erupted in cheers.
"What?!"
Nick Fury looked around, seeing only Hill, Natasha, and Coulson not cheering.
"Motherf... Pierce, tell me when this started!"
Pierce was happy to answer the question.
"Becoming the Demon King's subordinate was a year ago, and Hydra's allegiance was from the beginning," Pierce said.
"Hydra?"
"I thought you already knew this. Since World War II, Hydra has been rooted in S.H.I.E.L.D. You were the undercover, Fury!" Pierce explained.
"Motherf...!" Nick Fury's vision blurred, almost fainting. The organization he had devoted his life to was now his greatest enemy.
Click!
A flash of light.
Pierce was holding a camera and explained, "Don't misunderstand. This isn't your obituary. The boss just wants to see your expression right now. He's very curious, so he asked me to take a picture."
"…"
Thud!
Nick Fury completely fainted.
"Put them in cells," Pierce said, as he packed away the camera.
"I'm not a soldier, I'm a spy. A fully equipped squad? Even Captain America would be in trouble," Natasha thought, not resisting.
Pierce put away his camera. "Coulson, it's time. The Demon King said he'll arrange for you and the Captain to be together. I think you'll like this job."
Coulson looked slightly stunned but smiled. "Can I ask how I originally died?"
"By Loki," Pierce answered.
"Is that so? Looks like if Loki doesn't come out this time, you'll be the one to send me off," Coulson said with a small smile.
"Goodbye."
Bang!
The moment the bullet hit Coulson, he turned into black smoke and disappeared.
Looking at Coulson's disappearance, Pierce put away his gun, pulled out a bottle of serum from his chest, and finally used it.
He injected it into his arm, not wasting any of it, and then put the empty bottle away.
Pierce immediately felt a warm sensation spread through his body. His wrinkled face smoothed out, and his white hair turned golden.
He excitedly opened his eyes, removed his clothes, and saw his once sagging, elderly body now restored. Eight clear abs were visible.
"I feel great now! Hahahahaha!" Pierce laughed maniacally.
Everyone in the command center watched in awe as Pierce transformed back into a young man. His miraculous change occurred before their eyes.
Pierce laughed for several minutes before stopping, noticing the gazes around him. This was exactly what he wanted.
"The Demon Group's internal mall sells this, though there are membership restrictions. But you're still young. You have time to buy the youth rejuvenation serum."
"Yes, long live the Demon King!"
