Chapter 27 - Fifteen Minutes Before

The forest is expanding rapidly. The more I run, the less I feel like I'll get out. More feet hurt. I can slowly feel the old shoes, the Gandors give me, slowly give in as well.

I hear him though. The monster closing in. The sound of trees, its snarling, the branches it breaks, chasing after me. Above all it taunts, calling for me, "Sheep." Or, "Boy!".

It treating me like an animal. A freighted horrified animal, that's already wounded. Just limping slowly away. While leaving tracks of blood, but it's not blood I'm leaving behind. He just knows.

'Don, please… Come faster!'

The thought hits him before the monster greets him again.

Standing behind a tree staring with only its silhouette and those bright yellow eyes. That looks as if they are shining from the moonlight. I see him.

It happens. My body doesn't want to move. I'm shaking everywhere. My rifle forgotten back at the camp that Warren and I previously made. My heart is loud though. I can hear it's beating loud inside my chest. Pounding.

My body stays shaking. Now it feels like the ground is shaking violently, but nothing around me does. I can't fall that'll put me in a bad position. The Monster disappears.

It's silhouette gone, but I can feel its eyes. The eyes of the hunter watching a dying animal. It's stabbing me, from a direction I can't see, but only feel.

[I hear a snarling sound coming from around one of the tree. Up above, leaves are falling. I here branches dropping down from above.

I continue running every turn I make it follows. It's hunting and toying with me. That's one of the things that scares me. It knows it can get me yet it's playing with me.

Slowly the branches stop braking but I never stop running. My body won't allow it. Not until I'm sure that I'll be safe. Putting my left foot in front of my right foot. Heavily breathing for safety.

The Monster snarls one more time. Right above me. It jumps down on top of me. Falling down on top of me. Making me drop and hit my head. My vision starts getting blurry.

Before I black out something calls out to me. A voice full of different people. Like they are distorting each voice making it difficult to know who's talking. Yet, I understand it the voice because they all say the same words the word being.

"Come, find us!"

~~~
Vision slowly setting in again. I see another stand above me as well as The Monster again. A woman, wearing a black trench coat, along with a fedora and diamond earrings. She has the same yellow eyes as The Monster.
I'm being dragged. My head hitting cold hard concrete. Scuff marks on my face. Massive scratches from the scuffed ground.
Looking around I see that I'm not in the forest no more. I'm now in a very dimly lit room. The air is humid as well. I can't get anymore from being unable to see well. Moving to much would make it hard for me to leave.
Slowly I look back up to the other person walking beside the man, who was recently a monster. She looks eyes with me. In that second I knew that she could be a lot worse than The Monster.
"He's up."
The woman walking beside the man/ monster.
"NO!"
That's the last words I get to say. Almost immediately he lunges for my head. The last thing I feel is air on the bottom of my head and a claw to my neck. I go cold.
'I'm gonna die again.'
Dead.]
My breathe comes back to my lungs. My brain processes things well enough, again. I feel for my head on the top of my body, rubbing my fingers against my neck as well.
Then I hear the rustling of the tree leaves all over again. Beaches dropping. That makes my heart drop. I start running again, this time in a different direction. Pushing against the earth.
I continue running. I feel him. He's above me I don't know how I know, I just do. Looking up for a split second. It confirms my suspicions. The Monster is indeed above me. Staring down with its yellow beady eyes.
A voice calls for me. The same distorted voice that was calling for me before I died. The voice that's jumbled full of different people, that all know what they are going to say to one another.
"Come…. To…. Us. We are here."
Instinctively my body just moves. Like the words are the direction themselves. My leg pushing harder and harder onto the ground. The sweat that accumulates, slowly flys off my face, almost as soon as it appears.
Bobbing and weaving away from he fast passing trees. Hearing The Monster soaring over me. Hunting, toying with me. My body wants to hate it, but I only fear him. Only want to be free.
"Your…. Getting…. closer."
The voices call out to me. Guiding me. In its direction.
Running, I almost bump into a tree. Right before I trip on a root hanging out of the ground. The front of my shoe. Gets caught under it. Leaving my right foot stuck.
Immediately yanking it out. I'm running on one sock and one shoe. Leaving me feeling lopsided every step I take but that doesn't bother me. As the over head branches feel like they are growing closer.
Left, right, left, right. My heart feels like it's going to cave into itself. My breathing makes me feel helpless as I try pulling air into my lungs but with every breath it feels like my throat is getting stabbed.
Slowly I come across a clearing. I also find out, The Monster is also no longer hanging above me. I look behind me. It's doing it again. Staring at me with its yellow eyes that continue calling me by that same name.
"Boy!"
Taunting toward me scream it. Hurting my ear. My body pushes immediately running further into the clearing turning toward it.
Inside the clearing. Is a single pole. A red pole that. That is stuck stabbed into the ground. In the middle of the clearing getting closer to the pole, I hear The Monster.
Turning around he's on all fours. Like a rabid dog. Chasing me. Snarling.
My feet move faster. I have about only seconds before he gets to me. Pushing my feet to move even faster than already pushing. Steadily and steadily pushing closer to the pole.
"Grab… me. I… will save you."
The distorted voice. Calls to me. Louder like it yelling.
I jump hoping to grab the pole. Before I can. I feel something grab my leg. Pulling me back. Stopping me from grabbing. A hairy hand filling engulfing my bottom left calf.
It drops me straight to the ground. Throwing me down then standing over me. I quick exchange of looks and The Monster wails down on me.
I use my arms to protect my face. It still hurts badly. Left. Scratching my arms. Right. My face. Another slash my leg. Another. Slowly and slowly, I'm pushing back trying to grab it.
Each cut he gives me. The louder I yell. Screaming, incomprehensible words. My heart beating louder and louder. My brain throwing out ideas for safety. I feel stuck. The Monster is standing over me. Large claws, great amount of fur.
In one last ditch effort. I pick up my legs to my stomach. I push it off of myself landing it directly onto the monster. Pushing it away with all the strength I can give. It takes a step or two back. In an attempt it tries grabbing my leg with its hand but just grabs the other shoe tearing it off.
Slowly with each step it takes, stumbling back left foot as his standing then right slowly he starts regaining his composure.
Using the rest of the strength in my body. I give the best leap I can toward the red pole.
The Monster gives a great snarl. I can also tell it gave a leap but not toward the red pole but to me. I grab onto the pole but right before grabbing it. The Monster digs its claws deep into my lower left calf. Cutting into my bone and through my body.
"Ahhh!!"
The feeling digs a wide hole that bleeds endlessly. Is what it's seems from me. The pain unimaginable, like its searing into my body. Crying for me to stop feeling it.
"You are now mine."
The voice, that is slowly distorting. Into a coarse voice, a euphoric voice and mine. Darkness surrounding me. My eyes going red. My conscience slowly fading.
Something crawls down my leg in great speed. Slapping my skin. Attaching itself to me. Like it's drawing on my blood. My life. The pain from the claw wiggling inside me now gone, filled with the feeling of something else. A feeling of something entering through the wound.
Connecting itself to my bone. The feeling of the attachment to my leg now disappears and my chest feels it now. My heart slows down now. Calming me. Making my breathing easier.
My mind goes blink. Feeling my mind disconnecting from my body. My eyes are closing. I slowly feel like I'm sleeping. My eyes fully shut. I fall out of consciousness.
Out of the trees the lady appears. Standing between The Monster with one less finger and an unconscious Keith. Apearing so fast it looked like she just teleported there.
