Chapter 145: Warlock
Northwestern Area of the True North
POV of Domeric Bolton
It came as a surprise to Domeric when the Wights around him didn't come to support the White Walker.
They just stood back and looked at their battle with their blue eyes. Standing still and not doing anything.
He blocked another quick strike from the White Walker, feeling his feet buckle from the tremendous pressure with its single hand, although Domeric also used one hand to block.
With a start, he realized that even with the new body enhancements, he still had no advantage against the White Walker. It was also equally skilled, if not more so, than he was. Perhaps even more skilled than Varko.
Those realizations rang alarmingly in his head.
No wonder the Free Folk viewed these magical creatures as gods.
He knew that even with a Valyrian blade, a normal human stands no chance against these White Walkers in a single combat.
But even though he could not gain an advantage in terms of speed and strength, he made up for it with his reflexes.
Dodging another strike from the White Walker with a hair's breadth, he doubled back, wanting to withdraw from close combat, create a gap, and use magic from a distance to neutralize the White Walker, or at least put him at a disadvantage.
Then, with a start, he realized that he couldn't go back anymore. He turned back and noticed that the Wights had secretly moved behind him and were now stopping him from disengaging himself from the fight.
He picked one of them, A half-rotten child, and threw it at the White Walker, who swiped it away with his sword easily, not even breaking its stride as it moved toward him gracefully.
'How the fuck can someone move gracefully in half a foot of deep snow?' He cursed mentally as he realized that in order to win this battle, he would have to change his style.
So, when the White Walker moved its sword to swing at him, he raised his wand and fired a banishing charm.
But the spell was weaker than he had anticipated. He had expected the White Walker to weaken the spell, but Depulso, which would normally throw a person back tens of meters, didn't even push the White Walker back half a step.
And the White Walker's sword was still swinging towards him.
Domeric quickly raised his sword to parry the attack, but at that moment…
The wall of Wights that had formed around them broke as Varko emerged from within the undead, and then, with a roar of anger, he charged at the White Walker, who turned his attention to face the man who had sought to challenge it.
He used this distraction and threw his Dragonglass dagger at it. The dagger struck its armor, but instead of causing damage, it shattered into many pieces.
The White Walker didn't even look back as it defended itself easily against Varko before kicking Varko in the chest, making a dent in the chest armor, and throwing him back in the midst of the Wights who fell upon the greatest swordsman of the seven kingdoms without any fear.
He knew that he would not get a better chance, so he jumped at the White Walker, and as he did so, the wand in his hand disappeared, and another sword, Gryffindor, appeared in its place.
He raised his swords high to split its skull in half, but with a graceful spin, White Walker moved out of the way and buried its icy sword in his stomach.
Or at least that's what it tried to do.
His full body armor made of Valyrian Steel stopped the blade before it could pierce him. But the impact was still enough to push Domeric back. Although Domeric thrust his sword forward, unfortunately, it couldn't reach the White Walker.
But Domeric's training to become a battlemage took effect at this point, and while Domeric was thrusting his sword forward, he unknowingly activated one of the spells paired with the move: 'Depulso'
And this time, unlike the charm he cast with his wand, the charm coming out of Gryffindor managed to throw the White Walker backwards powerfully.
Domeric looked at the Gryffindor sword in his hand in surprise and immediately understood why Warlocks made their own weapon foci instead of using wands to fight against their opponents and magical creatures.
Wands were tools designed for a wide range of tasks, both big and small. They were useful, especially for everyday tasks. But when it came to combat and fighting, they were inadequate, at least against creatures resistant to magic, like dragons, basilisks, and the White Walker-like creatures he faced.
He could understand now why Godric Gryffindor, who had defied dragons in his time, had become so identified with his sword. A warrior needed a weapon, not a general tool.
Domeric shook off his surprise as the White Walker stood up and grinned at the icy fucker.
"This is going to be really fun!"
He lifted the Gryffindor and pointed it at the White Walker, muttering, "Leviosa."
And the White Walker rose 5 meters from the ground in surprise. While the White Walker was waving his hands and feet, not knowing what to do, Domeric, this time, slashed Excalibur at the White Walker: "Diffindo"
The Severing Charm did its job, and the White Walker's legs were severed from his body, one at the ankle and the other at the kneecap.
But Domeric wasn't finished yet. The White Walker shouted angrily as Domeric pointed Excalibur at him again and swung it down, muttering, "Descendo!" The spell sent White Walker crashing to the ground, his ice sword falling from his hand.
Domeric seized this opportunity, and before the White Walker could recover, he pulled Excalibur, still pointed at it, towards himself and muttered, "Accio." And the White Walker flew quickly towards Domeric, but what awaited him at the end of the path was Gryffindor himself, Domeric's sword in his right hand.
Gryffindor meets White Walker's magical armor, but its magical armor failed to protect it when he stabbed at it with his Goblin Silver Valyrian sword.
