Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 : Holiday

That was already a week ago. That night was uneventful as she soon enough sent me off with my bag. It was a chore getting past the professors who stood at watch in the evenings. She claimed she was hoping to 'do more with me' that night, but the state of mind and body weren't 'adequate'. I already resolved, that was the last of our late-night-experimental-escapades. I've had enough of being serious for a while.

Now, I sat on my bed, in my dorm. I looked up the wooden, well finished roof as thoughts of last week trickled into my mind. Unbeknownst to me I was slowly wondering what would have happened of we had finished that conversation. The conversation about my past More possibilities flooded my brain all through the week that had passed. What had she known about me? Did she examine what was in my bag? Then heavier thought crawled through the slippery entrance created by the smaller worries. Things I was prepared to do incase she were to spoil my new life, or bring up old history. All of which are not pretty.

As I drowned in endless simulations of the near future, I was pulled back to shore by a knock on the door across the room. The doors were made of strong oak, infused and reinforced by high grade magic. That made the lightest tap very well perceivable, and quite heavy. I quickly rushed into a position, a classic lotus pose. Whenever I skipped class, as I was doing now, acting like I was doing something related to my academia can really give me a fighting chance. The heavy door gave me enough time set up my facade. But this time, I was outdone. Whoever it was behind that door opened it so easily, you'd think it was made of twig.

Then, a tall, young, chocolate skinned man appeared before the door. His skin matched his perfect light brown eyes, and deep black hair. He wore the academy uniform, but one could still see the tone of his fit body, optimized for battle. He had a fierce gaze that could burn a hole through any skull, if placed before him. Now, there was something very special thing about that man, that I could already tell. The way he wore the uniform's coat without bothering to fit his arms in the cloth gave it away. This man was my friend, Muna. He wore a bandage over his right eye, but he seemed mostly fine.

"Hey! Would you look at that? Someone is skipping lectures." he said, his face still as unserious as ever. Our adventures beyond the lecture halls in the academy had become a running joke, between us and outsiders. Adriana had also reprimanded us, but gave up after Kyle hit her with "You said become strong and make a name for yourself. We cant do that if we're stuck behind desks all day". "You some how always find yourself where a professor isn't. C'mon we have a special announcement. I dont think you should miss this"

We walked in silence, through the courtyard and corridors. The morning gossip of the birds highlights this moment. We made it to our hall, with the words 'Hall 34' etched onto it. Muna wasted no time in nudging it open. Light from the windows flushed down, some of it blocked by curtains and silhouettes of classmates. He bowed his head down. The downward sloping classroom made it easy for one to see

"Good day Mr Yosef!" he soon used his feet to tap mine, ushering me to do the same. I reluctantly bowed. He waved his hand and we made our way into our seats. Kyle was already on his, his fingers interlocked and the bridge of his nose pressed against it. I sat down and my head went immediately into my desk. I could feel eyes like spears in my back, but by this time, I was used to it now, but I cant say it didn't bother me in the slightest. I could thank those two freaks for that.

Mr Yosef clapped his two hands, and the little murmurs turned to silence. He cleared his throat as he adjusted his necktie. He took of his glasses and cleaned them with his jacket.

"You would know, that the academy has decided to release the first year cadets for an early break. Its November, so we expect you back by January 1st. That's one and a half months you can play with. Now, if you dont know, listen up carefully. The moment you're back, you will all be sent in excursions. Two classes will conjoin into one. At the end, you will be participating in the Annual First year bout, each class will have a number of representatives. You will up against the other branches. Remember, we sent you early because quite frankly, you're all too weak for the other branches."

From the back, someone stood up. He's a random, so it not worth describing him, or why he interrupted 'Yosef'. Immediately, you could hear him screaming in pain. I didn't look back, this was normal occurrence. 'Yosef' was a master of 'remote influence', which can allow him to 'influence' the flow of one's energy, and to an extent, control them physically. Although it means a limit on your personal amount of QI, and takes a mental toll, it is very effective. Soon the screaming stopped, with uncontrollable coughing filling the room. No one dared to help.

"Firstly, teaching has its own limits. A monkey can only learn so much. There were, have been and will always be some fool with an experiment testing their intelligence. How come none of those monkeys can actually move into society? Or comprehend complex human nuances and unspoken language?"

A brave cadet raised her hand. Playing right into his hands.

"Exactly! If you think you really needed to answer that, you need some work done. Just like you, things that are obvious to us are oblivious to those stupid creatures, no matter how hard we try. If you had experience, you would know not to raise your hand, or maybe the thing in your head would at least try to let you know I was being sarcastic." he exclaimed as the class burst in waves of laughter. Mr Yosef couldn't help but let out a little giggle himself. He was either devoid of 'feelings' or was really proud of himself. Both of which were weird.

He called the class to order and continued.

"If you cannot internalize and personalize all we have taught you 'yourself' , what is the use of teaching you in the first place? Second, energy is always flowing, can be converted, but can never be destroyed. Keeping you here in the academy siting down all day counteracts the first, most important and most fundamental principle of energy. I hope that answered the question. If that didn't, you must be a--"

"MONKEY!" the class shouted in harmony. Another eruption of laughter hit the hall.

"Now, now. Even though I'm your Managing professor, I really couldn't care less about who's representing, We could do that now, or later. If you have any ideas of who should do it, you could point now."

As he finished with that, all fingers unanimously went towards Muna and Kyle. Really unsurprising. Who wouldn't pick 'The Machine' and 'The Black Dragon'? I hate those two. With those badass names.
