Daina and Sigil were walking through the city when Sigil suddenly sensed something, something ominous and dangerous. "Daina, let's go to the inn," he said. He quickly booked a room, and once inside, he instructed her, "Stay in this room and don't open the door, even if I tell you to. I'll come back through the window if nothing is there."
"Master, is there a problem?" Daina asked, worried.
"No, but there might be," Sigil said before he left.
He walked the streets, following the presence he felt, and turned into an alley. There, he saw the half-eaten corpse of a man reeking of alcohol. "We need to get away from this city," Sigil thought. "There might be demons. But what if there are demons outside the town too? What should I do? Nothing like this was said in the 1,000 Records."
Suddenly, he noticed a man on a tower. "Who is that man?" someone asked.
"What is that man doing?" another person wondered.
The man began to shed his skin, transforming into a demonic figure. "Rejoice, people of the city!" the demon's voice boomed. "Fate Demon has chosen your city to be sacrificed to strengthen his power and form a contract with a devil. You will be a sacrifice for the greater good of the demon invasion!"
The people watching shook with fear. A man near the city gate screamed, "No, I don't want to die!" As he ran outside the gate, he was pierced by a skinny demon with holes for eyes and spear-like hands. The demon's voice was raspy. "Oh no, where are you going, my dear? We have to do many things together."
"Is this our doom?" someone cried.
"No, I don't want to die here!" another sobbed.
Daina, back at the inn, was worried. "I hope Master will be okay," she thought.
Sigil knew he had to act. "I need to get Daina away from this area, or she will be sacrificed," he thought. He quickly ran back to the inn, jumped through the window, and landed in the room.
"Master, did you hear that?" Daina asked.
"Come quickly, we need to go," Sigil said. They both jumped out of the window and began to leap from roof to roof.
"Where are we going, Master?" Daina asked.
"Near the border," Sigil replied.
"But I saw a man get killed for trying to leave."
"Don't worry, we'll make it," Sigil said with determination.
They reached the gate, but several demons surrounded them. "Another fool attempting to flee," one demon said.
"At least we get to kill them," another added.
"Kekeke, this is fun!" a third demon cackled.
Sigil drew his sword. "You dare to stop my path?" he said. He vanished in a flash and reappeared behind the demons. They were cut in half.
One demon, split at the waist, managed to say, "He's a Martial King?" Another demon, whose head was cut off, added, "Don't be so happy, human. We can regenerate."
"Daina!" Sigil shouted. Daina ran to his side. Sigil began to disappear and reappear between the demons, cutting them and moving quickly toward the gate.
They finally reached the gate and started to run, but Sigil suddenly stopped, and Daina froze with fear. Sigil face was contorted with anger. "Fate Demon! Why are you here?"
The Fate Demon smirked. "Looks like I'm very famous."
Sigil remembered his past. His father protected his family but was killed. His mother tried her best but was also killed. Then, his son and wife begged for mercy, but the demon killed them too. "I won't stop until I kill every one of your kind!" Sigil roared. "Even if I don't survive, I will pass my hate on to someone else, so my hatred can be remembered for eternity, and someone, anyone, will be present to kill you."
The Fate Demon laughed. "You kill me? Are you training her to kill me too? What a funny joke!"
"Yes," Sigil said. "She will be your slayer. The slayer of all demonkind!"
The Fate Demon laughed maniacally. "Slayer of demonkind? I mean, she might do great things, but she's nothing compared to the slayer of demonkind. Since you've amused me, I will let both of you go."
Sigil's expression was horrified. He dropped his bag, and all its contents fell out. "Wait," he thought. "If he doesn't recognize Daina, does that mean she's not the slayer of the Fate Demon?" For some reason, Sigil felt a wave of relief and even happiness. "Why am I feeling this?" he wondered. "I should be angry, horrified. Why?"
The Fate Demon's eyes landed on a book that had fallen from Sigil's bag. He picked it up and started reading. "The 1,000 Records, huh?" he said. He read the prophecy for this year, and his expression turned dark. "Where did you get this?" he screamed.
Sigil smiled. "Daina, go!"
Daina, frozen in fear, suddenly moved. "What about you?" she asked.
Sigil smiled. "Don't worry." Daina ran away.
The Fate Demon's expression grew darker. "Tell me where you got it!" he screamed.
"Oh, little Fate Demon," Sigil taunted. "I know more about fate than you do. It's Rei, right?" Sigil just guessed, but the Fate Demon's eyes widened.
"Tell me where Rei is!" he demanded furiously.
"I don't know," Sigil said. "And even if I did, I wouldn't tell you." He clutched his sword.
"Then die!" the Fate Demon roared. Both of them vanished, reappearing where the other had just been, facing opposite directions.
"The future is shrouded in chaos," Sigil said. With that, his body broke into many pieces and collapsed.
The Fate Demon was enraged. "Where could Rei be?" he screamed, "Reeeeiiiii!".
From a distance, Daina watched her mentor die. She screamed and cried for a long time. After she had no tears left, she said, "Master, I swear that I will carry your hate and make sure all demons are killed in the final war, even if I have to die myself. I swear on my life."
