The days after the confession rolled by like a soft breeze. Ruby and Dhruv fell back into easy rhythm—morning coffees on the balcony, late‑night movie marathons, and quiet walks where they talked about everything and nothing. Jowell was around too, cracking jokes, bringing over his guitar, and the house finally felt whole again.
*Monday – Dhruv's Day Off*
Dhruv woke up early, the sun spilling gold across the bed. Ruby was still asleep, her hair tangled in the pillow. He brushed a strand away, smiled, and whispered, "Good morning, love."
Later, after brunch, they settled on the couch. Jowell popped in with a bag of fresh fruit and a grin.
*Dhruv:* "Hey, mind if we talk for a bit? No drama, just… talk."
*Ruby:* (looks up, a little nervous) "Sure. What's up?"
*Dhruv:* "I've been thinking about what you said—about going back to your family. I don't want to be the reason you feel stuck or that you have to choose between us and them. If you just for a visit—makes up with them, that'll make me happy
*Dhruv:* "I love you, But Your family matters. If being there for them, even if it's just a short trip, helps, I'm okay with it."
*Ruby:* "fine, I'll do as you said, but only because I don't want us to keep arguing
*Jowell (chiming in, half‑joking):* "Y'all better bring me back some of that family food, man. I'm not sharing my fried plantains."
They all laughed, the tension easing.
*Ruby (sighing):* "Okay. I'll go Tuesday. Just one night, then I'm back. I don't want to be away long."
*Dhruv (nodding):* "Tuesday it is. I'll handle everything here. You focus on them, and we'll pick up where we left off."
*Jowell (raising his glass of juice):* "To family, friends, and love that doesn't break under a little distance."
*All clink glasses.*
*Tuesday – Ruby Leaves*
Morning rush, hugs, a quick kiss. Ruby boards the bus, a mix of excitement and a little nervousness. Dhruv watches her go, texting:
_"Safe trip, my love. Can't wait to hear your voice tonight."_
Ruby replies instantly:
_"Love you. Miss you already."_
