I was still shaking with rage when the servant informed me that Lady Catalina had requested a private audience. My first instinct was to tell her to go to hell. My second was to march straight there and finish what I started in the courtyard.
But I wasn't stupid.
I let the maids finish dressing me properly this time, a deep emerald gown that made my eyes look sharper, the bandage at my throat hidden beneath layers of lace. I even allowed them to pin my hair up, though I refused the heavy jeweled combs. Klara hovered close the entire time, her hands trembling slightly as she adjusted my sleeves.
"Are you sure about this, my lady?" she whispered in German when the others stepped back.
"No," I answered honestly. "But I'm doing it anyway."
