Chapter 3 - Bad Luck

Ninsun, that's me. I was never someone who stood out from the rest. I knew I didn't have a promising future. I was average in school, and after I left, I didn't have much luck with jobs.

My source of income was a part-time job and farming for others in online games. I felt like I was stuck in a vicious cycle, with no prospects for change. I've always admired adventurers. An exciting life, despite the danger, but at least you earn good money. Unless you're rank F.

I wanted to be an adventurer. I thought it would never happen. And, in the end, I became an adventurer.

When I woke up, it was an incredible feeling! I thought my life was finally going to change. Even with the possibility of being rank F, it seemed impossible. Few people are, so why would I be? I felt like I was dreaming, like it was all just an illusion.

I still remember the day I went to discover my rank. I went to the Tower Association, which is the foundation of everything for being an adventurer. Although it's a very important place, it's just an ordinary building. Of course, what makes it recognizable is its logo: a shadow phoenix, a legendary spirit where many people claim to have seen on odd-numbered floors. I think it's just a myth, created to make more people want to go to the tower. After all, there's no system to enter the tower with magical equipment.

When I entered the tower, there were many adventurers. I admit that I felt a bit nervous. I felt like a small piece in a large puzzle, not knowing exactly where I fit in. But I was determined to find out.

Now, I'm here, ready to start my journey as an adventurer. I'm nervous, but I'm also eager to see what the future holds for me. I'll face challenges, I'll learn, and I'll grow.

The interior of the building was very different from the exterior, which seemed ordinary. From the outside, through the glass doors, it seemed like any other building, but inside, the walls shone with a soft light, not too strong. There were several spirits there, perhaps to protect themselves from other organizations. I saw several people crossing walls, as if they were portals. It was a strange scene, but I was more concerned with my own destiny.

An attendant came up to me and led me to the testing room. When I entered, I saw water floating in the air. It was the test. The more the water agitated, the lower the rank. The more stable it became, the higher the rank.

As soon as I touched the water, it pulled me inside instantly. As I entered the water, I started to drown. I looked at the evaluator, desperately trying to ask for help, but he just kept writing with his pen.

I was distraught, feeling the water entering my lungs, until I finally passed out.

When I woke up, I was on a stretcher. The evaluator who I had previously begged for help came up to me and handed me my certificate and adventurer's card. And that's when I found out: I'm rank F. It wasn't expected that a rank F would be in danger. Normally, they don't go to perilous dungeons.

I thought that even being rank F, as an adventurer, everything would get better. But it only got worse. Rank F adventurers like me are in constant danger. My life got better and worse at the same time. The only thing I did was mine and kill some slimes.

One day, I was on the 5th floor, commenting on slime cores, when a monster appeared that certainly shouldn't have been there. It looked like a bear, but it had a human face that was crying. It just watched me. I was surprised, but not terrified. I didn't know what to do. Run? Fight? No! None of that would help. At that moment, I knew: I was going to die.
