Chapter 31 - Training session 1 (Orette's POV)

The wave of wind flashes against my skin, pulling my hair from its roots. For a body with no meat, just flesh, surviving from what I'm experiencing is no joke.

"Huh, huh, huh."

Oh, how many days has it been? Two, four, six?

How many times has he thrown me? Eleven? Twenty-two?

I'm almost out of breath.

My arms...I can't feel them. They have given up.

My legs, on the other hand, are stable.

Wait. Why did I say stable? I could've said 'they are fine.'

"Concentrate." Ivan's voice struck inside my head. "As pathetic as it might seem, you still can't withstand this fickle energy."

Fickle? Are you kidding me? Someone, please tell this man that this is not a fickle.

Again, the arch of bolts dashed towards me. Big and brilliant as they might seem, they sure hurt a lot.

The bolts dashed towards me and were precise and perfectly targeted on my back. I tried to dodge them, believe me, I really did, but after every five to six attempts, I'd get shot on my back.

And every time it happens, my body just accepts the pain as it was meant to be.

I definitely don't ship my body with pain.

"Concentrate."

My head jerked back at the sound of Ivan's voice. Was he inside my head just now? I looked back at him, and the distance was too much for me to hear him.

Damn.

I...I want to learn_.

"Distractions won't get you anywhere."

There it was again. I heard him inside my head.

"Keep your mind stable and relax your senses." He decided to give me instructions (finally), "Don't look for where the lightning is heading, look for its source."

Is it a source? I turned back again to find a Russian man with a cane, but when I darted my gaze towards the left, that half witted anderoid was staring at me with its arm blasting the BLOODY BOLTS!

Damn, that alliteration was the finest.

Well now I know where my target is, right? Do I?

I mean, it could also be Ivan with his fancy cane or that robot with a floating head.

mmm. This is hard, and my life is on the line.

Oh well! Guess we just have to let them decide.

The bolts headed straight towards me, but from the front.

I chased towards the intercept between Ivan and the robot, which was surprising.

The bolts tried to attack my arms and chest. Too bad for them, since all that running really did pay off.

My arm drifted on the ground for me to do a cartwheel between Ivan and Martini.

Yuck. Can't believe I narrated that.

And landed straight between them.

Four seconds, and bolts dashed towards me from both sides.

I took a fast glance to see that Ivan was producing electricity from his cane.

Well, what do you know? Who could've guessed that?

Now that the beasts were into me, I bent back for their attacks to cancel out one another.

I did work for a second, but what do I know? The lightning completely vanished in front of Ivan, and the robot blocked it with its heavy metal arm.

"You have got to be kidding me." I mean...just forget it.

I raced towards Ivan, who in an instant grew wary of my arrival. Before his cane touched the ground, I kicked it with all my might.

And like a soccer ball, it flew across the field for everyone's amazement.

Even mine, if I add so myself.

Ivan turned to face me; I looked at him, dumbfounded. He pinched the bridge of his nose while saying, "I guess we can stop here; you did manage to find the source."

Did I? I mean, it was a gut feeling, and my instincts do me a favour on this one.

But I mean it was really me who did it, so I guess the credit goes to me.

"So does this mean I pass whatever this test was about?"

Ivan gave me his blue eyes, which were shining for some reason. "Barely." He replied in his sharpest tone.

Well duh~ He's annoyed by you. whatya expect.
