Chapter 310 - Maleficent trailer & Supergirl wrap-up party

AN: C'mon guys, lacking powerstones. Help get back to top 20.

-=[Words: 3.1k]

Between the final stretch of Supergirl, post-production work across half a dozen projects, and Titan's endless expansion, the months had blurred together into one continuous sprint. Yet one project had remained strangely quiet throughout the chaos.

Maleficent.

Filming had wrapped only recently after an additional month of reshoots requested by Guillermo del Toro. Nobody complained. The director had earned enough trust that whenever he asked for more time, people assumed there was a very good reason behind it. And they were getting paid, so there's that.

At exactly noon, Titan Studios uploaded the first official trailer.

Within minutes, social media exploded.

...

The trailer opens in darkness.

A single piano note echoes through the silence before a young girl's voice speaks softly.

"Tell me again."

Golden light slowly spreads across the screen, revealing an enchanted forest waking beneath the morning sun. Ancient trees rise higher than castles, their branches tangled with glowing flowers and silver vines. Tiny winged creatures drift through the air like sparks from a dream.

The girl's voice returns, quiet and curious.

"Tell me what happened to the fairy."

An older woman answers gently as the camera moves deeper through the Moors.

"Not everyone remembers the story correctly."

A pair of enormous black wings unfold against the sky.

The music darkens.

Maleficent stands on a cliff overlooking the Moors, her black horns rising sharply above her face while her wings stretch behind her like living shadows. Angelina Jolie's eyes hold power, grief, and something colder than anger.

The older voice continues.

"She was born with a heart full of light."

A younger Maleficent soars above the forest, laughing as sunlight catches her wings. Below her, the Moors bloom with impossible beauty. Strange creatures bow their heads as she passes, not in fear, but in love.

Then Stefan appears beside her near a glowing river.

Young, charming, and full of promises.

"You trust me?" he asks.

Maleficent smiles at him, innocent in a way that already feels tragic.

"With my life."

The music stops.

Night falls across the forest.

Stefan stands over Maleficent while she sleeps. His hand trembles around a blade. His face twists with guilt, ambition, and fear.

The screen cuts to black before the act is shown.

Then Maleficent screams.

She wakes on the forest floor, broken and shaking, her wings gone. Rain falls over her as she reaches behind herself and finds only emptiness. Her breath catches, and the pain in her face says everything the trailer refuses to show.

The older voice returns, heavier now.

"And then the world taught her what betrayal means."

A crown is placed on Stefan's head.

James McAvoy's King Stefan sits on the throne, pale and haunted, while nobles cheer around him. His eyes do not look victorious. They look afraid.

Stefan's voice echoed, "The kingdom needed a king."

The trailer cuts back to Maleficent standing alone beneath a storm. Her voice is low and deadly. "And so," she said coldly, "it shall have a curse."

The trailer shifted to the royal christening.

A grand hall filled with nobles, guards, and golden light. The baby princess slept in a cradle at the center of the room while everyone turned in fear as Maleficent appeared from green fire.

The three fairies froze near the cradle. The king stepped forward with terror hidden beneath pride.

Music started as Maleficent touched the baby, and green magic flowed into her body.

The music surged.

Aurora grew older in flashes. Amanda Seyfried ran through the forest with sunlight in her hair, laughing as strange creatures followed her through the Moors. She looked innocent, fearless, and completely unaware of the shadow watching from above.

Diaval landed on the ground in raven form before shifting into Andrew Garfield, his black coat whipping in the wind.

"You're not afraid of me?" Maleficent asked.

Aurora smiled gently.

"Should I be?"

For the first time, Maleficent had no answer.

The music softened, then darkened again.

Stefan screamed, "Bring me her head!"

Diaval transformed mid-flight into a massive dragon, roaring as flames swallowed the battlefield. Maleficent soared through smoke and lightning, green magic tearing through iron shields as armies crashed against the living forest.

The final scene slowed everything down.

Aurora stood before Maleficent with tears in her eyes. "You aren't what they say you are."

Maleficent looked away, her expression unreadable.

The camera moved closer.

"No," she said quietly, her voice filled with centuries of pain. "I'm far worse."

The screen went black.

Two glowing green eyes appeared.

Then the title burned onto the screen.

[48 Hours Later]

The internet had completely fallen into the rabbit hole once again. Nobody expected the trailer to hit this hard.

The first twenty-four hours were impressive.

The second twenty-four hours turned it into a phenomenon.

The official trailer continued climbing across every platform while reaction videos, breakdowns, frame-by-frame analyses, and fan theories multiplied faster than anyone at Titan's marketing department anticipated.

@ForestKing88

Angelina Jolie looks beautiful and dangerous. She's perfect.

@BookwyrmQueen

That shot of Maleficent waking up after losing her wings hurt more than some entire movies.

@RavenWatcher

Andrew Garfield turning from raven to human might be the coolest thing I've seen all year.

@FairyTalesForAdults

This doesn't look like a fairy tale. It looks like a tragedy pretending to be a fairy tale.

@CinemaAddict

Guillermo del Toro and fantasy is basically cheating.

@AuroraStan

Amanda Seyfried looks PERFECT for Aurora.

@GreenFire

The fact that they never showed the actual wing-cutting scene makes it even worse somehow.

@TheRealMovieNerd

I went into this expecting an evil queen movie. I came out feeling bad for her and the movie isn't even out yet.

@DragonFanatic

Did anyone else completely lose their mind when Diaval turned into a dragon?

@TitanFanForever

Titan really woke up one day and decided every movie should look expensive.

Calling it now.

The whole movie is about how history rewrites people.

Everybody remembers Maleficent as evil because Stefan won.

This movie is showing what actually happened.

The old narrator literally says "Not everyone remembers the story correctly."

That's not subtle.

No way all of those environments are CGI.

Some of those forests look physically built.

Reply by TitanProductionLeaks

Apparently they built massive sections of the Moors for real.

If true, that's insane.

James McAvoy looks miserable in every single shot.

I don't think they're making him a cartoon villain.

I think they're making him tragic.

Which honestly makes the betrayal scene worse.

Everybody was cheering.

Stefan looked terrified.

I think becoming king is the moment he realizes he destroyed the best thing in his life.

Film Critics React

The professional reviews arrived almost as quickly as the fan reactions.

Most critics only had one complaint.

The movie wasn't out yet.

The Film Observer

Guillermo del Toro appears to have created a dark fairy tale of astonishing visual ambition.

Every frame of the trailer suggests a world built rather than generated.

Cinema Weekly

Angelina Jolie dominates the trailer from the moment she appears.

Maleficent feels powerful, wounded, frightening, and heartbreakingly human all at once.

The Screen Review

The Moors may become one of the most memorable fantasy settings ever put on film if the final movie delivers on what the trailer promises.

Film Journal

Most fantasy trailers sell spectacle.

Maleficent sells tragedy.

That distinction may prove to be its greatest strength.

Storycraft Magazine

The trailer demonstrates remarkable restraint.

It reveals very little of the plot while communicating the emotional core perfectly.

Visual Arts Review

The production design deserves immediate attention.

The environments feel handcrafted, textured, and tangible in ways modern fantasy films often struggle to achieve.

Titan HQ

Meanwhile, inside Titan's analytics department, employees watched the numbers climb every few minutes.

One marketing executive stared at the latest dashboard update.

"Uh..."

The room looked over.

"What?"

He pointed at the screen.

"The trailer just passed twelve million."

A new employee blinked.

"Already?"

Another employee refreshed the page.

The number jumped again.

Silence filled the room.

Then one person finally said what everyone was thinking.

"Well, nothing new."

After all these years, they already knew the end result.

Titan Studios Promotion Tour

The reaction to the trailer changed everything.

Before the trailer, Maleficent was simply another Titan fantasy project with a strong cast, a respected director, and a large budget. After the trailer, it became one of the most anticipated films of the year.

The cast suddenly found themselves everywhere, starting from morning shows, Entertainment interviews, magazine covers, podcast appearances, and industry panels.

Everywhere people wanted answers.

And surprisingly, the person receiving the most attention wasn't Guillermo del Toro.

It was Angelina Jolie.

..

New York

A week after the trailer dropped, Angelina sat beneath studio lights during a televised interview while clips from the trailer played behind her.

The host smiled.

"You've played action, spy, romantic and adventure roles. What made you want to play Maleficent?"

Angelina thought for a moment.

"She's complicated."

The audience quieted immediately.

"Most fairy tales tell us who the villain is before the story starts. Maleficent doesn't do that. She's powerful, she's angry, she's hurt, and sometimes she makes terrible choices. But underneath all of that is someone who was deeply betrayed."

The screen behind her showed a brief shot of Maleficent standing beneath the storm.

Angelina smiled softly.

"I think audiences are going to be surprised by how emotional the story is."

...

Los Angeles

Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro stood in front of a packed theater during a special promotional event.

The room had large displays featuring concept art.

It showed:

- The Moors

- Maleficent's castle

- The fairy creatures

- The dragon

Every seat was filled with fans.

One audience member raised a hand. "How much of the world was practical?"

Guillermo immediately smiled. "A ridiculous amount."

The room laughed.

"No, seriously. Titan probably regretted giving me permission."

More laughter.

"We built forests, village sections and enormous portions of the Moors because I wanted actors to interact with a real world whenever possible."

A few concept images appeared behind him.

The audience applauded.

"Fantasy feels different when actors can touch it."

...

London

James McAvoy's interviews created a different kind of discussion. Most people expected King Stefan to be a simple villain. The trailer suggested otherwise.

One reporter asked him directly.

"Should audiences hate Stefan?"

James laughed. "I don't think it's that simple."

That answer immediately spread online.

James leaned forward. "Stefan makes terrible choices. Some unforgivable choices. But the film asks why he became that person."

The room became quieter.

"Nobody wakes up and decides to become a monster."

That quote ended up everywhere.

[Supergirl wrap-up party] [LA]

The top floor of Titan HQ glowed with warm gold light as the wrap party carried on around them. Through the massive glass walls, Los Angeles stretched endlessly into the night. Music drifted through the room, mixing with laughter, clinking glasses, and dozens of overlapping conversations from people who had spent months building a movie together.

For the first time in what felt like forever, nobody was rushing.

There were no call sheets on the walls. No assistant directors were shouting about changes to the schedule. There were no stunt rehearsals, exploding buildings, or last-minute production problems. The film was complete.

Or at least the filming was.

That should have made Alexis feel relieved.

Instead, she felt like she was carrying a weight on her shoulders that grew heavier every time somebody congratulated her.

She smiled through photos. She thanked crew members when they stopped her to say goodbye. She laughed at jokes, accepted compliments, and did her best to act as if she belonged here.

Inside, however, a different conversation kept repeating itself.

'What if the movie flops?'

The thought had become impossible to ignore.

It followed her through interviews, publicity events, every article discussing Supergirl's trailer. It sat in the back of her mind every time someone called her the future of the DC Universe.

Because this wasn't just another role.

This was her first role.

Her first movie.

Her first time carrying an entire project on her shoulders.

If the film succeeded, people would celebrate the cast, the director, Titan Studios, and the launch of a new franchise.

If it failed, everyone would remember the girl wearing the cape.

By the time she escaped toward one of the quieter corners near the windows, Alexis barely realized she was doing it. She simply needed a moment where nobody was looking at her.

The city below looked peaceful from up here. Far enough away that problems seemed smaller.

"Trying to hide?"

The voice made her glance sideways.

Kate Winslet stood nearby with a glass of sparkling water in one hand and an amused smile on her face.

Alexis laughed weakly before saying, "Was it that obvious?"

Kate stepped beside her and looked out at the city.

"Only if you've done it before."

There was something comforting about the answer.

For a few moments they stood quietly together while the sounds of the party continued behind them.

Then Kate glanced at her. "You're worried."

It wasn't phrased as a question.

Alexis looked away.

"A little."

Kate's eyebrow lifted.

"A little?"

"Okay, a lot."

That earned a small laugh.

Alexis sighed and rested her forearms against the railing.

"I know everyone keeps telling me not to think about it, but I can't help it. This movie buzz is everywhere right now. The trailer exploded online. People are already talking about sequels and future films and all these expectations."

She shook her head.

"Sometimes it feels like everybody already decided this thing is going to succeed except me."

Kate listened without interrupting.

"I keep wondering if I was good enough," Alexis admitted quietly. "What if people don't like me as Kara? What if they watch the movie and think Titan picked the wrong actress?"

For a moment, Kate simply stared out at the city before saying, "Do you know what I was doing before Titanic came out?"

Alexis blinked.

"Worrying?"

Kate smiled.

"Constantly."

That answer surprised her enough to pull her attention away from the skyline.

Kate continued. "People always remember success after it happens. They don't remember the months beforehand when everyone involved is terrified."

A faint laugh escaped her.

"I was convinced somebody would discover I had no idea what I was doing."

Alexis stared.

"You?"

"Oh, absolutely."

Kate took a sip from her glass.

"Actors are wonderful at pretending confidence exists when it doesn't."

The honesty made Alexis smile despite herself.

Kate noticed immediately.

"There it is."

"What?"

"Your real smile."

Alexis rolled her eyes.

"That sounded incredibly professional."

"It was. I've been acting longer than you've been alive."

That earned an actual laugh.

The tension in Alexis's shoulders eased slightly.

Kate rested her elbows against the railing.

"Let me ask you something."

"Okay."

"Did you work hard?"

"Yes."

"Did you take direction?"

"Of course."

"Did you improve?"

Alexis nodded immediately. "I think so."

Kate looked at her knowingly. "You know so."

Alexis smiled sheepishly.

"Yeah."

"And did you give everything you had?"

This time she took a moment before answering. She remembered the bruises from working with wires, the long nights spent studying scripts, and the emotional scenes that drained her. She recalled the fear she felt on her first day and the confidence she had on her last day.

Finally, she nodded.

"Yeah. I did."

Kate's expression softened.

"Then you've already done your job."

Alexis felt the impact of those words more than she expected. They were simple and true. She realized there was nothing left to prove. The movie was complete. She had put in her best effort. Whatever happened next was up to the audience.

Kate glanced toward the center of the room where Alex was currently surrounded by what looked like half the production team.

"He believed in you before anybody else did."

Alexis followed her gaze.

Alex was laughing at something one of the stunt coordinators had said while simultaneously being dragged into another conversation by the camera crew.

Kate smiled. "And for what it's worth, he's annoyingly good at spotting talent."

Alexis laughed.

"That's probably the nicest way to describe him."

"It's the only nice thing I'm saying tonight."

For a few seconds they watched the party together. Then Kate nudged her shoulder lightly.

"Come on."

Alexis looked over.

"Where?"

"Back to your party."

Kate pointed toward the crowd.

"You're the lead actress in one of the biggest movies of the year. You're supposed to be celebrating."

A nervous smile appeared.

"What if I'm bad at celebrating?"

Kate laughed.

"Then you're in the perfect industry."

Together they turned away from the window and headed back toward the crowd. This time, when people waved her over, Alexis didn't feel quite as overwhelmed.

The fear was still there.

It probably would be until opening night.

But for the first time in weeks, it felt a little smaller.

And that was enough.
