Jace rolled in between a pair of Mar'talics who were raising their weapons. They were using some kind of plasma based weapon. But he ignored them in favor of the group that were moving into the door. Apparently him shooting through just about everything had an impact on the enemies.
Those with too weak of a will were running. That includes the ones who were closest to the structure. They had begun opening the door so they could run inside and hopefully get cover from Jace's Wildfire assault rifle.
But they were met by another type of attack as red lasers burst out of the door as soon as they cracked it open even slightly. The laser tore threw the running enemies like they were paper. Their body's burned instead of bled. The chunks that were left nearest the impact point of the lasers had ash surrounding it.
