Once they left, Liam came back over.
I continued to picture Leslie's pained expression, trying to figure out why she would look at me like that.
"How do you feel?" asked Liam, looking over at me curiously.
"Liam. Who is she to me?" I asked, turning my head to look at him.
"Morgan? Your fiancée, you know that already," he answered, avoiding eye contact with me.
"You know I'm not talking about Morgan. Tell me, who is Leslie to me?" I asked again. I knew that he knew more than he let on.
"She's your fiancée's sister. What more do you need to know?" he replied, nonchalantly.
"Liam."
My words were cold and threatening. I didn't like being held in the dark.
"I'm telling you, Christian, she's just your fiancée's sister. What more do you want to know?" he said with annoyance.

Liam's reluctance to tell me meant that it was something important, but not important to me, but not to him. I gave up asking him and turned to look at the roses.
