Nobody said a single word after Ramirez said that Sophia's family had been wiped out by the NSBI.
It felt like a hallucination, like something that didn't even belong in reality, because Linda herself didn't know anything about it.
She had personally looked into everyone's past. The entire ministry had investigated everybody's lives, from Hector all the way down to the lowest-ranked soldier, yet not once had it come up that Sophia's family had been wiped out or that her siblings had been killed.
"Impossible." Her voice finally came as she looked at Ramirez. "We have files on everything," she began. "Even if we kill a fucking goat, we have a file for it. But Sophia had nothing on her!"
"That is a lie!" Ramirez said, raising his voice for the first time as he stared at Linda. "You and the whole agency have killed dozens of people without any documents. It is possible tha—"
