No one paused to think about morality, about emotion, or about the lives they were destroying. The concept of right and wrong no longer existed in their world, just as the fact that innocent people, families, and lives were being dragged into something they never chose no longer mattered.
There is no simple explanation for why anyone would kill a woman and a child. No amount of logic or revenge can justify it. It is something beyond reason, a heartless, merciless, and senseless act of cruelty… it is simply evil.
But in this world, there is always a "but."
A weak excuse, a quiet justification, something to make the unthinkable seem slightly less monstrous.
