Chapter 4 - Unwelcomed visitor

As they started heading to the walls, Amilia couldn't help but to ask. "By the way, Yuuji," she paused for a moment. "Do you know how to use a sword ?"

It was a valid question. If the hero didn't know how to use a sword, then it'll be troublesome in this situation at least.

And while Yuuji looked fancy in his adventurer clothes, it was not all that there was to an adventurer. An adventurer can specialize in a certain role or roles, such as trap discovery, swordsmanship, archery or magic.

They needed to know what type of "Hero" he'd be. Although he did ask for a sword, it might have been the heat of the moment thing before he realized what he's good or not good at.

"Yeah." Yuuji touched the hilt of the sword on his hip before continuing. "I've trained a lot with the sword back in my world."

For someone like Yuuji who loved light novels and manga, he gave a lot of martial arts a chance. Learning to use a sword was something he got interested in, and his grandma immediately helped him find a good place to train at. Of course a wooden sword would be different than the real deal, but once you grasp the fundamentals, anything could be a dangerous weapon.

The sword Yuuji was given was a light weighted sword, the hilt was a blueish purple color, and the guards described its sharpness. "It can cut a tree in half."

While that felt like over exaggeration, it was a fantasy world. Anything could be possible so he didn't write it off, until he tries doing that at least.

Nevertheless, It was a temporary gift anyway and he was going to get one from Sam's workshop soon. 'Let's hope he finishes making it before another attack happens.' Yuuji thought to himself

Twenty minutes worth of running later, and they finally arrived at the walls. It was a big distance, but due to them rushing there it was a quick trip.

There were a number of units already in place waiting orders as the monsters started approaching slowly, too slowly in fact.

Yuuji was astonished; however, the emergency units really did respond fast to the attack. It was definitely faster than the emergency number back in his place that's for sure.

"Deputy Commander, how's the formation?" Thoka asked as she looked at Boryana.

Thoka's aura quickly changed from a playful elegant lady to a proper knight leader. She gazed at the units standing by waiting for orders.

At least three units were present each with roughly 30-50 knights at the ready.

Boryana bowed before giving her report of the situation "Ha! The soldiers are all in place awaiting your orders, My lord. The enemies seem to be a collection of undeads led by a necromancer. While our scouts couldn't get a grasp on where said necromancer is, we're confident it's not something we can take lightly."

Yuuji looked at the horde of monsters approaching. Boryana's opinion was right, this shouldn't be taken lightly. The amount of corpses approaching was concerning.

Now with Yuuji's prior knowledge of manga and novels and even games, he could figure out this wasn't a random necromancer, the amount of corpses you control is linked to your skill level or mana output. The amount of corpses moving and their movement was not to be laughed at, it indicated a high level necromancer in the area.

Boryana's eyes wandered after finishing her report. Upon seeing Yuuji standing there her expression turned even more serious than it was a mere moment ago.

"Mister Yuuji, Please help us today." Boryana took a knee in front of Yuuji out of respect.

Yuuji, however, seemed uncomfortable with that reaction. Not only did he make fun of her before, but also he didn't see himself worth all that respect.

"Please call me Yuuji.. Just Yuuji. And no need to respect me so much"

His expression, stiff and uncomfortable. He really hated formalities.

Boryana lifted her face in confusion and an audible "Huh?" was heard from her.

"I'm sorry but what?" Her confusion only grew more. "You're our hero you deserve more respect than that which I'm giving–"

Before she could finish, Yuuji cut her off, "I don't want to be a hero who everyone fears or respects because of titles. I want to be one who is respected as a friend."

Thoka smiled as she saw the two interact, and so did Amilia. The former then moved her hands as she looked at the soldiers. "Everyone! Take defensive formation 1!"

"Ohhhhh? Defensive formation you say?"

A harsh unbearable sound plagued the group's ears.

"Thoka… Thoka… You really disappointed me…" The same voice was heard again

"Sorry for the late introduction, Everyone. My name is Sirius!" The voice paused for a moment, "I came here to take this loooooooovely kingdom allllll for myself~"

Confusion washed over Yuuji's and Boryana's faces but the one to clear this up was Amilia "This is telepathy magic. He must be trying to provoke us." to which Thoka nodded.

And after that, Yuuji understood. This was the necromancer. If he had telepathy magic that strong it was indeed a confirmation of their high skill set.

However, there was no time for discussions. Suddenly, the slow undead got faster and the soldiers were taken by complete surprise.

The smell of undead corpses filled their nostrils and it made it uncomfortable to fight. The corpses weren't strong, but the smell certainly made the knights weaker.

Yuuji and Boryana jumped into battle. Thoka was leading the formation from behind, and Amilia was providing support as much as she could.

Attack buff here, speed buff there. She provided all she could to both Yuuji and Boryana.

'1, 2, 3 Ughhh there's so many!' Yuuji silently complained as he ran through the undead army slashing them down

His sword swings were precise and strong, the rumor about this sword was true after all.

Kicking one down, slashing another, jumping up and dodging nimbly. Yuuji's agility was really put to the test with this battle. The amount of corpses was overwhelming and they were different in size.

'I should thank my teacher if I ever get the chance.' Yuuji thought to himself as he kept slashing left and right.

He ducked under to dodge an attack which sent the corpses tumbling over each other, they were big in numbers but they lacked the smarts.

"Nothing personal, sorry." He said as he pierced them with his sword. Quickly plucking it out he stabbed another, then a third. It felt like those infinite waves of zombies in a video game.

"Don't let your guard down, Yuuji!" Boryana who was close by shouted.

"I know that, Jailbait!" Yuuji slashed 2 more down as he complained again.

Boryana was fighting her own battle alongside Yuuji– or more like little bits away from him. She used both her sword and her own body as a weapon. Raising her leg to kick them on the chin, acrobatically correcting her body to stab another.

Her small figure made it easy for her to do these movements with ease, something that anyone would find impressive.

It wasn't a competition, but if it was, Yuuji's and Boryana's kills were almost the same. However it felt like the more they killed the more would appear. A never ending wave of enemies.

Yuuji used brute force while Boryana used pure speed and acrobatics, both worked effectively but the number of enemies did not dwindle at all.

Behind these lines of enemies Amilia was casting spells to boost both Yuuji and Boryana's combat abilities.

"O merciful snow aid us to defeat those who oppose you.. Ice spirit!"

Suddenly, Yuuji felt his speed increase further. He slashed down another corpse before looking down at his hands "Woah.. Good work, Witch!"

"Don't call me 'Witch'!" Amilia's complaints fell on deaf ears as Yuuji continued battling ahead.

"If this wasn't a serious situation, I'd have cancelled the buff!" Amilia kept complaining while casting more buffs to both Boryana and Yuuji.

"This is not working! Yuuji! Boryana! I'm starting to run out of mana!" Amilia cried for Yuuji and Boryana to prepare for the buff to end.

They both prepared for it, they'll just have to put up with it until the necromancer gives up or they finish the corpses off. With how much they killed– surely whoever's behind this would give up.

'This time… this time I'll prove more how good I truly am'

Boryana looked completely absorbed in battle and in her own thoughts. A sudden shout finally brought her back to reality.

"Unfair. Unfair. Unfair unfair unfair unfair! UNFAIR! UNFAIRUNFAIRUNFAIR! HOW CAN YOU JUST EASILY KILL MY BEAUTIFUL CORPSES! MY PETS! MY BEAUTIFUL UNDEAD PETS! You two must die. YOU MUST DIE ON THE SPOT NOW! DIEDIEDIEDIEDIE"

Sirius looked ominous on his own, aside from his craziness, he had a mask covering half of his face and a dark crystal that looked like it was omitting some sort of dark aura.

"BE CAREFUL!" Yuuji shouted loudly as he pushed Boryana away from a surprise attack by Sirius.

After Sirius' surprise attack a sudden voice rang through everyone's ears. "THOKA SMITH! I'LL BRING EVEN STRONGER PETS TO CRUSH YOU SOON! FOR NOW, SEE YOU LATER. YOU'LL PAY FOR WHAT YOUR SOLDIERS DID TO MY PETS!"

"Yuuji, are you okay!?" A panicked Amilia rushed to the scene as soon as she could.

However, Yuuji immediately started vomiting intensely. Holding in that feeling for long with how bad the smell was, definitely had its effects on him. In fact all the knights kneeled down in distraught from how awful the smell was.

"O merciful snow, heal those who heed your aid, Healing!"

A ray of light was instantly emitted from Amilia's staff heading towards Yuuji. Amilia wasn't great at healing magic but it could serve as first aid. However this one was not one healing magic could fix. It wasn't sickness nor was it an injury, it was from mental shock and the smell of the undead soldiers.

After a few moments of Yuuji's intense vomiting, he finally came to a stop. He slowly tried to stand up but his very injured leg stopped him in his tracks.

"For now, Let's bring him back to our hospital." Boryana declared receiving a nod from Amilia as the two shouldered him to stand.
