Chapter 49 - Waves

The storm had taken them.

I quietly stood by the window, my hand pressing against the glass. The air in the skyscraper was silent. But my head felt like it was bursting open. 

Being a necromancer meant I didn't just see the dead; I could hear their thoughts. I could feel the absence of life in him. 

The rain was pelting hard against the windows. Suddenly, in the gray blur of the rain, I spotted two figures. Faint but undeniably human. 

One of them was steady and cold. The other was staggering. My heart skipped a beat as I saw the trail of blood he left behind, the rain quickly washing it away again. 

"They're here," I whispered. I didn't wait, I ran straight toward the exit, pulling the door open. 

Ender didn't even look up from his rifle. "Hailey, it's been two days. Nobody survives a horde like that." He said while pointing in the direction of the rotters. 

"They did," I snapped, my eyes locking onto two shadows emerging from the mist across the streets.
