Super Black Diablos immediately lowered her head and charged toward Zaboru's hunter with terrifying speed. The arena floor shook beneath her feet as the enormous monster rushed forward, but instead of trying to swing his Great Sword, Zaboru calmly rolled sideways at the last possible moment and immediately began running toward the other side of the arena.
The chat instantly started laughing.
"BRO IS RUNNING ALREADY!"
"GREAT SWORD EXPERIENCE LMAO."
"WHERE'S THE BADASS GAMEPLAY!?"
Zaboru ignored them. His hunter suddenly stopped several meters away from where Black Diablos had ended her charge, turned toward seemingly empty space, drew his Great Sword, and began charging.
The enormous blade was Siegmund, one of the strongest Great Swords currently obtainable in the game. Combined with Zaboru's full High Rank Rathalos armor and offensive skills that strengthened charged attacks, a perfectly placed full charge could deal monstrous damage.
The only problem was...
There was nothing in front of him.
Black Diablos was nowhere near his sword.
The comments immediately became even more chaotic.
"WHAT IS BRO DOING!?"
"HE'S CHARGING THE AIR!"
"ZABORU FORGOT WHERE THE MONSTER IS!"
"FIRST TIME WE SEE THIS MAN SUCK AT A GAME!?"
Zaboru simply grinned.
"Watch."
Black Diablos suddenly turned.
Her body lowered.
One foot scraped violently against the ground.
Then she charged.
The monster exploded forward at ridiculous speed, crossing the arena faster than most viewers expected. Suddenly everyone realized exactly where Zaboru was standing.
He hadn't positioned himself where Black Diablos was.
He had positioned himself where she was going to be.
The Great Sword continued charging.
First level.
Second level.
Then the final charge flashed.
Black Diablos thundered directly toward him, her enormous horns only moments away from smashing into his hunter.
Zaboru didn't move.
The chat practically screamed.
"DODGE!?"
"ZABORU MOVE!"
"YOU'RE DEAD!"
Then Zaboru released the button.
His hunter twisted his entire body and brought Siegmund down with a colossal overhead slash at the exact moment Black Diablos entered range.
BOOOOM!
The blade smashed directly into the monster's face.
The impact animation exploded across the screen, dust erupted from the arena floor, and Super Black Diablos' charge was completely interrupted. Her entire head snapped downward from the force before her gigantic body stumbled backward several steps.
The chat froze for perhaps half a second.
Then exploded.
"WHAT!?"
"HE STOPPED THE CHARGE!?"
"HOLY SHIT!"
"THAT WAS LUCK!"
"NO WAY HE TIMED THAT!"
Zaboru laughed.
"Hehehe."
He didn't stand there admiring the hit either.
The moment Black Diablos staggered, Zaboru's hunter moved forward. He already knew exactly how long the stagger animation lasted. He positioned himself beside the monster's head, began another charge, and released it directly into one of her massive horns.
CRACK!
Another enormous damage number appeared.
Before Black Diablos could fully recover, Zaboru followed with a quick horizontal swing, clipped the monster's head again, then immediately rolled away.
And instead of continuing the combo...
He sheathed his Great Sword.
Several viewers immediately noticed.
"WHY SHEATHE!?"
"ATTACK HER!"
"YOU HAVE AN OPENING!"
Zaboru didn't listen.
His hunter casually jogged away while Black Diablos recovered.
Then Zaboru actually made his character perform a small gesture.
The chat lost it.
"BRO EMOTED!?"
"THE DISRESPECT!"
"SHE'S GONNA KILL YOU!"
Black Diablos roared furiously.
Zaboru chuckled. "See? This is what you guys don't understand. Great Sword isn't about keeping your weapon out all the time."
Black Diablos began moving toward him.
"Your sword is huge. You're slow when it's drawn. So why the hell are you walking around with it like an idiot?"
He waited.
Black Diablos approached aggressively, but this time she didn't immediately charge. Zaboru watched the monster's movement closely.
Her body turned slightly.
The hips rotated.
The tail lifted.
Zaboru's expression sharpened.
"There."
His hunter moved only a tiny distance.
Not a roll.
Not a desperate sprint.
Just several steps.
Then he drew the Great Sword and started charging again.
The chat became confused.
"HE'S DOING IT AGAIN."
"THERE'S NO OPENING!"
Black Diablos spun.
Her enormous tail swept across the arena with enough force to send an unprepared hunter flying.
It passed directly in front of Zaboru.
Missing him by what looked like centimeters.
WHOOSH!
The tail passed.
Zaboru was already at maximum charge.
The instant Black Diablos finished the rotation and her head moved into position—
BOOM!
Siegmund crashed directly into her face again.
Black Diablos staggered.
The chat erupted.
"NO FUCKING WAY."
"HE STOOD INSIDE THE TAIL RANGE!?"
"THAT WAS LIKE ONE PIXEL!"
"HE KNEW EXACTLY WHERE THE TAIL ENDED!"
Zaboru rolled away and immediately sheathed again.
"Hehehe. Now you're starting to understand."
Black Diablos roared and began another aggressive sequence. This time she rushed forward with a short horn attack, turned quickly, then attempted another charge.
Zaboru didn't attack.
He simply moved.
The monster charged past him.
Instead of chasing her, Zaboru ran diagonally toward an apparently useless section of the arena.
The chat had already learned not to laugh.
Sure enough, Black Diablos turned toward him.
Zaboru stopped.
Charge started.
The monster rushed.
Zaboru waited.
Maximum charge.
Black Diablos entered range.
BOOM!
Another head strike.
Another stagger.
"HE DID IT AGAIN!"
"THIS ISN'T LUCK ANYMORE."
"HE'S LITERALLY PUTTING THE SWORD WHERE DIABLOS WILL GO."
Zaboru smiled. "Exactly."
He chased the stagger, but this time he didn't immediately charge. Black Diablos was too close to recovering, so Zaboru used one fast unsheathe attack against her horn and immediately rolled away.
"No greed."
He sheathed again.
"That's another thing."
Zaboru glanced toward the chat while still controlling his hunter.
"Some of you land one good Great Sword attack and suddenly think you deserve another one."
The chat laughed.
"You don't."
Black Diablos recovered and slammed her horns toward him.
Zaboru rolled clear.
"Take what the monster gives you. One hit is fine."
He repositioned.
"If you can safely get two, take two."
Black Diablos spun.
Zaboru remained outside the attack.
"But if you try to force three because you want bigger damage..."
The monster suddenly dug underground.
Zaboru started running.
"...you die."
Black Diablos disappeared completely beneath the arena floor.
The chat became nervous again.
"OH SHIT."
"BURROW!"
Zaboru watched the ground beneath his hunter.
Dust appeared.
He changed direction at the last second.
Black Diablos erupted upward directly behind him, her horns missing the hunter by almost nothing.
But Zaboru had already anticipated where she would emerge.
He immediately turned.
Draw.
Charge.
Black Diablos was still trapped inside her recovery animation from emerging.
First charge.
Second.
Maximum.
Siegmund descended.
BOOOOOOM!
The hit landed directly against the head.
One of Black Diablos' horns cracked.
A moment later—
CRACK!
The horn shattered completely.
The chat went completely insane.
"HE BROKE THE HORN!"
"THIS IS AN EXECUTION!"
"IS THIS REALLY SUPER BLACK DIABLOS!?"
"ANIMAL ABUSE!"
"SOMEBODY SAVE THE MONSTER!"
Zaboru began laughing loudly.
"Oi! I'm the hunter! This is literally my job!"
Black Diablos became enraged.
Her movements accelerated even further.
The arena suddenly became far more dangerous. She chained charges together, turned faster, attacked more aggressively, and gave Zaboru dramatically smaller openings.
But somehow...
That made Zaboru look even better.
He stopped trying to force full charges every time.
Sometimes he performed only a quick draw slash before immediately sheathing.
Sometimes he started charging, realized Black Diablos was choosing a different attack, canceled his plan, rolled away, and repositioned.
Sometimes he didn't attack for nearly twenty seconds.
The viewers slowly understood.
Zaboru wasn't simply showing them how much damage Great Sword could deal.
He was showing them the patience required to use it.
Black Diablos rushed toward him.
Zaboru dodged.
No attack.
Tail swing.
Zaboru stepped outside range.
No attack.
Horn sweep.
He waited.
Black Diablos turned.
Charge.
Zaboru had already moved toward the monster's future path.
Charge attack.
BOOM!
Directly into the face.
Stagger.
Quick follow-up.
Sheathe.
Move.
Again.
Again.
Again.
The fight started looking less like a hunt and more like Zaboru was training the monster to walk into his sword.
"BRO IS CONDITIONING THE AI."
"DIABLOS DOES AN ATTACK AND GETS PUNCHED IN THE FACE EVERY TIME."
"THIS IS BULLYING."
"SHE'S PROBABLY SCARED TO ATTACK NOW."
Zaboru chuckled. "That's Great Sword."
His hunter moved into position again.
"You don't need to attack constantly."
Black Diablos charged past.
Zaboru turned.
"You need the attacks you do make..."
He began charging.
"...to matter."
The monster turned toward him.
Zaboru already knew what was coming.
Black Diablos charged.
Maximum charge.
Perfect timing.
BOOOOOOM!
Siegmund slammed into her damaged head.
The remaining horn exploded apart.
Black Diablos crashed sideways and collapsed onto the arena floor.
"BOTH HORNS GONE!"
"SHE'S GETTING DISMANTLED!"
Zaboru immediately ran toward the head, positioned himself carefully, and began charging while the monster struggled on the ground.
Full charge.
BOOM!
Another.
Black Diablos attempted to stand.
Zaboru shifted slightly.
Second opening.
BOOM!
The monster staggered again before she could properly retaliate.
Zaboru rolled away and sheathed.
His character not taken damage.
The health bar remained completely full.
The viewers couldn't believe it.
This was a High Rank online challenge monster specifically designed to be fought by multiple hunters.
Yet Zaboru was making the encounter look controlled.
Not easy.
Controlled.
There was a difference.
Every time Black Diablos became unpredictable, Zaboru respected her.
Every time she committed to an animation he recognized, he punished her brutally.
And because Great Sword had such enormous damage on properly charged hits, every successful prediction visibly shortened the fight.
Four minutes passed.
Black Diablos was already limping.
The chat became hysterical.
"UNDER FIVE MINUTES!?"
"NO WAY."
"THIS QUEST TAKES MY TEAM LIKE TWENTY MINUTES!"
Zaboru grinned.
Black Diablos performed one final desperate charge.
Zaboru didn't dodge away.
He ran to the side, turned, and placed himself directly along her return path.
The chat already knew.
"OH NO."
"HE'S SETTING IT UP."
"DIABLOS DON'T DO IT!"
Zaboru started charging.
The monster turned.
She charged.
Siegmund reached maximum power.
Zaboru whispered:
"Come on."
Black Diablos thundered toward him.
Then—
BOOOOOOOOM!
The Great Sword crashed directly into her skull.
Black Diablos stopped dead.
For a fraction of a second, the enormous monster remained standing.
Then her legs collapsed.
Her body crashed onto the arena floor.
QUEST COMPLETE
The timer appeared.
Under five minutes.
For several seconds, the chat became almost unreadable.
"HOLY SHIT!"
"THAT WAS THE MANLIEST SHIT I'VE EVER SEEN!"
"THAT'S HOW GREAT SWORD IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED!?"
"YOU HAVE TO MEMORIZE THE MONSTER!?"
"BRO WASN'T FIGHTING DIABLOS HE WAS READING HER FUTURE."
"I APOLOGIZE TO GREAT SWORD ."
Zaboru leaned back triumphantly.
"Hehehehehe."
Then he began carving Black Diablos.
First carve.
Normal material.
Second carve.
Black Diablos Plate.
The chat reacted.
Then another carve.
Black Diablos Plate.
Silence.
Then absolute chaos.
"TWO PLATES!?"
"FUCK OFF!"
"DEVELOPER RNG!"
"BAN HIM!"
"THIS IS CORRUPTION!"
Zaboru burst out laughing. "HEY! I'm just lucky!"
Nobody believed him.
"Seriously! I didn't touch the drop rate!"
"SOURCE: ZABORU RENKONAN."
"OWNER OF THE GAME SAYS HE DIDN'T CHEAT."
"VERY TRUSTWORTHY."
Zaboru shook his head while laughing. "Whatever, whatever. But about Great Sword—you guys finally understand, right?"
He leaned toward the camera.
"Great Sword isn't just about having the biggest damage number. You need to know the monster. Positioning, timing, attack patterns, recovery windows, range, where its head will be after an animation... all of it."
Zaboru pointed toward the screen.
"If you know those things, Great Sword becomes terrifying because you're not chasing the monster."
He grinned.
"You're waiting for the monster to come to your sword."
The chat immediately filled with messages.
"ZABORU TEACH ME!"
"SORRY FOR DOUBTING YOU!"
"AIN'T NO WAY I THOUGHT ZABORU WOULD BE BAD AT HIS OWN GAME."
"I KNOW IT THERE SOMETHING OFF WITH GS!!"
"THAT LOOKS SO COOL I WANT TO TRY IT!"
Zaboru chuckled. "Don't blame me when you miss twenty charges first."
He returned to the quest menu and began scrolling through another list.
"This is my favorite weapon, after all. Every weapon can be amazing with a skilled hunter, and I'm not saying Great Sword is automatically the strongest weapon in every situation."
He paused.
"But..."
His grin returned.
"Not every weapon looks this badass when played properly."
The chat erupted again.
Zaboru eventually stopped on another hunt.
Rathalos.
He selected it.
"Okay. Let's do another one."
As the quest began loading, Zaboru stretched his fingers and continued explaining. "And Great Sword is especially comfortable when you're playing alone because the monster focuses on you. That makes predicting its movement easier. But don't misunderstand—Great Sword isn't bad in co-op at all. You just need to adjust because the monster can suddenly target someone else."
He glanced toward the chat.
"Overall, this is a hard weapon. It looks simple because technically you just carry a giant sword and hit things."
Zaboru chuckled.
"But actually playing it properly?"
The Rathalos hunt loaded.
"That's another story."
Zaboru grinned and then play monster Hunter for a while before he might change games..
