The villagers wouldn't let him leave.
Jin tried. Twice. The first time, he got as far as the edge of the square before a crowd of children surrounded him, tugging at his scorched sleeves, asking if he could really fly and whether the Envoy ate rice like normal people. The second time, an old man with a cane planted himself firmly in Jin's path and refused to move until Jin agreed to sit down and eat something.
So Jin sat down.
