The window folded away, and the world went black.
It happened all at once. One moment Jin was standing in the ruined valley, the cracked sky above him and the scorched grass at his feet. The next, there was nothing. No valley. No sky. No ground beneath him. Not even the katana in his hand.
There was only the dark.
He tried to move, and couldn't. He tried to call out, and nothing came. He couldn't feel his arms or his legs or his face. He couldn't feel anything at all except a slow, steady pull, deep in the middle of his chest, like a hook had caught somewhere behind his ribs and was drawing him down, and down, and down.
What the hell is happening, he thought.
Nobody answered.
