Chapter 7 - Pray

Star stared down Danny for a while, before giving up and grabbing his coffee. "I wasn't done drinking that y'know." He said dryly. "It's not like you deserve it anyway."

Marco kept taking uncomfortable glances at the window, holding his katana ready to attack. The cafe was still ridden with panic, a bit more quiet now. "Blood skies, rampaging demons, some people dead, some people kidnapped...are they mixing rituals?" He muttered to himself. Looking at the customers for a potential cultist.

"I swear, fishcakes you guys are insufferable even when I'm not around. First you go to the Dieramoni temple for a diamond that's practically useless. Then you guys get separated by a portal spell, which I'm surprised you didn't even pick up the second it was cast. Eve got sent to another dimension and killed two of my coworkers I didn't know existed till last week while she died in the process for the 50th time this week. And then you guys took the diamond and destroyed the temple and left." Star.

"Yeah, that's pretty much it. I'm surprised you caught on I was being very vague." Danny smiled smugly. Star took a heavy sigh before taking the last sip of her coffee. "So what are you and your coworker planning to do about this? Cause it don't look like a normal storm."

Marco walked to their table giving Danny a slightly condescending look, before Star asked him to sit down. "Hello good sir. She keeping you good company?" He asked warmly.

"Don't be fooled by his pretty face, Marco. Danny, this is the best caretaker slash coworker in The Infinity... Marco! Marco this is the crabbing bounty hunter I told you about. And as much as I hate him we actually need his help." She introduced them to each other, having a happy excited tone when introducing Marco, and a deep hateful tone for Danny.

Marco's face went down a bit, before lighting up. "Wait....THIS is the guy you shit on so much? He looks my age!" He exclaimed with confusion.

"Same goes here! You described him as a run-of-the-mill vampire who I thought was 40! If you're gonna flashbang me with a hot guy at least be soft about it."

"She never says things right to you either?"

"Not once has this girl spoken Kunethi properly."

"Don't bully me! I only started learning it a hundred years ago! It's my 15th language!" Star whined and pouted.

It was quiet for a bit, before the city shook again, sparking panic amongst the customers. "If only I could quit. But my paycheck is way too good." Marco sighed.

"How good is your paycheck?" Danny asked.

"Get me a penthouse with a lot of customization at Eunio district good." "Damn. Star your job is bliss then." "Trust me it's not."

The three looked outside for a bit, watching the sky rumble and the rampaging demons becoming increasingly more ravishing.

Before another word was said, they found themselves atop the tower adjacent the cafe. Marco looked around in disbelief, before looking at Danny again. "Did- did you? How? When?!"

"Even the smallest portals are hard to conjure, the magic needed is miniscule, but the rest depends on the caster themselves. So going by that rule I honestly don't know what kind of mind Danny has cause you haven't seen anything yet." Star stated blankly.

"I'm just gifted naturally is all I chalk it up to. Anything complicated just airs me out for a while and even basic magic becomes incredibly impossible to do." He said while looking around the city for possible cracks.

"It all looks like a few rituals being casted at the same time. You know anything about that?" Star asked the two. "Aside from a few hints on The Cult of The Dead Angel I don't really know what to say." Marco answered.

"Well that explains the messy work. Still doesn't mean we're in the clear. Fucked up spell to eat everyone's soul in the vicinity is what they're trying to do." Danny looked down with disgust, seeing the devils becoming coordinated and having an order on who they kill and keep.

"Welp, I guess that's it." Marco sighed. "Danny, do you think you can bring all the devils to one spot?" Danny looked at the city, the unpleasant sight invading his eyes.

"They look more disgusting everytime I look at them." He muttered to himself. "200 meters from here should be fine yeah?" Marco nodded. Readying his katana. "Star...if you would start the prayer." Then he jumped down the building, looking at the sky as he waited for the portal.

Star closed her eyes and held her hands together close to her face, lowering her head a bit. Then at the exact moment, and overhead portal opened up, thousands of devils pouring in, running towards Marco, who was conveniently smoking again for dramatic effect.

"O spawn of evil, created from the life of The Creator, born to bring destruction to this world from the lost souls of the living. May Ye be cleansed of this suffering, and your souls finally be put to rest. And may the evil that clouds thee return to the unforgiving depths of hell. You are healed in the name of The Guardians."

"Emunah."
