Lucian takes one look at my face before he grasps my arms and sits me down at the base of a tree, a couple of feet away from my bag of firewood. My empty bag.
"Cassia, what is it? What happened?"
Even though I know it will probably mean Lucian will refuse to let me go back, I tell him. I tell him everything. Including my fears about Nolan coming after us if I leave now.
Lucian doesn't speak for several minutes. Instead, after sitting, he shifts me into his lap and wraps his arms around me. He's naked again, which means wherever he's coming from, it's far enough away that he's having to shift to wolf to get here.
As he stares into the forest, I peer into his face. "What are you thinking?"
"Did the door to the wooden building have a lock on it?"
His answer surprises me enough that it takes me a second to formulate a response. "Uh, I don't think so. I don't remember seeing one. Why? I thought you'd grab me and run into the forest, not stop to ask me about a lock."
