Volume 2 Chapter 66: Total Preparation

Why do you sing aloud?

For the world of tomorrow.

Why do you wail in sorrow?

For the comrades who have fallen.

Why are you so fervent?

For the vengeance that may come.

Even if all efforts might be in vain?

Even if all efforts might be in vain.

Thus spoke the monsters from space to It.

...

In space, the second and third waves of Ghidorah's Wings merged into a single force, concentrating all their might in an attempt to breach humanity's defenses in one decisive strike. And it wasn't just these merged waves acting this way—those from the fourth wave also showed a clear intent to reach Earth as quickly as possible.

Although the fourth wave wouldn't be able to merge with the previous waves before they reached Earth, it was projected to arrive within ten hours after the second and third waves' landing. The landing point? Still East Asia.

East Asia had now become the final battleground for the entire world's fight against the Ghidorah's Wings. Adding in the Godzilla still trapped in Australia, the region was now bearing the full weight of humanity's survival.

The news of the second and third waves merging was not made public worldwide. It was only shared among the high-ranking officials of the World United Government. The reason for this secrecy was simple—if such news were to leak, it could trigger unnecessary panic among those in East Asia's shelters. Therefore, the government decided to withhold it.

While the news was suppressed, all necessary preparations were carried out without delay. For instance, the decision regarding East Asia's evacuation was made in a brief discussion lasting only a few minutes.

Less than 24 hours remained before the collective arrival of the Ghidorah's Wings, yet over 40% of East Asia's population had not entered shelters.

In response, the World United Government issued an order for the Americas, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East to open their shelters to East Asian residents. The goal was to evacuate as many people as possible from East Asia before the monsters arrived.

Driverless orbital trains in each city would be fully operational for the next 24 hours, prioritizing the transportation of residents who couldn't reach shelters in time to other regions. This message was broadcast to the public via mobile phones, drones, and official radio stations.

The World United Government aimed to ensure that no one was left behind on East Asian soil when the Ghidorah's Wings arrived. They truly were a responsible government.

Thus, the great population evacuation began.

Fortunately, in this era, everyone had a mobile phone, and the entire planet was covered by 13G satellite signals and base stations. Otherwise, it would have been nearly impossible for the World United Government to relay this crucial information to everyone in East Asia.

As the population began to evacuate, preparations for the confrontation were also underway. Based on calculations of the Ghidorah's Wings' trajectory, Skynet had determined the most likely locations where they would land.

Humans began deploying engineering robots to bury nuclear bombs, anchoring them deep underground like giant landmines. These devices were effectively nuclear landmines, but with a density far greater and a yield much higher than ordinary landmines.

Roughly three million nuclear bombs from across the globe were transported to East Asia. The number was sufficient to obliterate the entire ecosystem, yet even this vast arsenal covered only around 30,000 square kilometers of land. This translated to about 100 bombs per square kilometer.

Against conventional enemies, this level of firepower would be considered overkill, even absurd. But East Asia was not facing conventional foes. They were facing monsters—beings that defied human understanding. Thus, this density of deployment could only be deemed appropriate.

Airburst detonations risked interference from shockwaves, but underground detonations would not. Seismic waves would not deactivate the buried nuclear mines, and even if a nearby bomb exploded, it wouldn't trigger those several kilometers away.

This was East Asia's additional battle plan—a seemingly absurd strategy, but one that, upon closer reflection, proved to be the most viable under the circumstances. Aerial strikes were too easily disrupted, and the railgun's efficiency was too low. The best method was to detonate countless nuclear bombs the moment the enemy landed, annihilating them instantly.

Of course, this approach carried significant risks. If the Ghidorah's Wings didn't land near the mined areas, the entire effort would be wasted. This element of unpredictability was why other regional representatives initially opposed the plan. However, after much debate, it became clear that while the plan was indeed risky, no other alternative offered a better chance of success.

Risky as it was, it remained the best option humanity had.

Meanwhile, preparations for deploying the oxygen destroyers—another weapon designed specifically to combat the Ghidorah's Wings—were underway. These devices would activate once the monsters landed, generating thick, toxic fog to seal off the shelters completely, making it impossible for the Ghidorah's Wings to approach. Should they try, they would be met with deadly chemical compounds.

Oxygen destroyers were considered one of humanity's trump cards against the Ghidorah's Wings, excelling not only offensively but defensively as well. By sealing the shelters and surrounding them with enough oxygen destroyers, humans could create an impenetrable death zone, rendering the area uninhabitable for any life form. Any creature attempting to land would face certain death.

This weapon gave humanity a final line of defense and bolstered their confidence in victory. In the worst-case scenario, even if nuclear bombs, orbital strikes, and railguns failed, humans could activate every oxygen destroyer on the surface, turning Earth into a world shrouded in white fog. Humanity would retreat underground, using robots to maintain life on the surface, much like they had during past nuclear wars.

Humans could survive underground once more, but the Ghidorah's Wings could not. With oxygen destroyers spread across the planet, the monsters would have only two choices: flee Earth or perish upon landing.

As the final battle approached, humanity had prepared four lines of defense:

1. Nuclear bombs buried underground.

2. A vast aerial nuclear strike network.

3. Railguns stationed on high mountains.

4. Oxygen destroyers hidden across the world.

With these measures in place, they believed victory was assured. The only remaining question was how much they would lose in the process.

Whether this confidence was well-founded or misplaced would be revealed in just a few hours.
