Chapter 23 - Wolf in the Midst of Tigers 2

"I am only human!

God is pleading for human assistance How could a God require assistance from such a humble being as a human? Are you insane?" Null finds it unbelievable. .

"I know it's hard to believe, but that's the truth. The God the Author wants to become the new Overlord of this Universe and rule the three realms. Since the Overlord left 500 years ago, the God the Author has committed many atrocities, including sealing me in the depths. As of now, there are only five Gods you can trust, and I am one of them," recounted the God of the Pathways.

"Why would I believe you? You're just like the others," Null replied.

"I will prove that I am not like that God the Author." said God of the Pathways.

"How? Do you know what the Academy, which is called the Institution of Heroes, is doing? These people only care about money. They really don't care about ordinary people and the weak, those who can't defend themselves. Can you bear to watch them do such nonsense? The heroes today are negligent and prioritize their own interests. They don't stand up for the weak. They stand up for those in positions of power, money, and influence. Do you expect to see these? Can you afford to see them doing this stupid things? If I were God, I would have destroyed such an Institution long ago and built a new one. Now, how will you prove to me that you are not like other Gods who just let them do wrong?" Null narrated.

"I don't understand these kinds of problems because I'm not human. And I don't see any problem here," said the God of the Pathways.

"That's the problem with you. You meddle in the affairs of a person you cannot fully understand, because you are gods, strong, powerful, never get sick, and have long lives. Humans are the opposite of those. I am a weak, fragile, death-fearing person with no power, so why would you ask me for help? Do you see me as a god?" Null lamented.

"I know you are weak, I know your past and you have been deeply hurt. I know you are afraid of seeing the end and that everything will just be in vain, but I know that in the future, you, as a person, will become the strongest God because this is your path," replied the God of the Pathways.

"You already knew, but why did I have to be the hero? Why did I have to kill the people important to me? You, as the God of the Pathway, why didn't you do anything back then?" Null sobbed, tears streaming down his face as he spoke.

"There are three of us gods who guide the fate of humans. Whatever one of us has done or will do, we cannot defy it. I, as the God of the Pathways, and the God the Author, and I have forgotten the name of the other one. We just need to outpace fate before it is changed or one of us intervenes." replied the God of the Pathways.

"So you couldn't do anything back then because another God intervened and toyed with my fate. Tell me, was it God the Author who interfered with my fate and life back then? The reason for the bitterness and pain I experienced back then? And who fulfilled my wishes?" Null asked.

"That is him, there's no mistake," she answered.

"Then it was still him who is playing with me now. And if he treated me as a toy, then will just play harder and make him regret at the end for playing with me," declared Null.

"That's it! That should be the spirit of the Overlord's last disciple." Exclaimed the God of the Pathways.

"But my core, as a child I have a fragile body but as I grow my skin becomes thinner and my limbs become stronger. I remember, I can't even walk when I was little and I really thought that I don't have a core, not until now...but how is my core being chained? Null was talking about things that make him puzzled.

God of the Pathways never saw him grow as an infant. The early memories he have with his mother was in the forest where his mother is carrying him in a basket and running home. But she was in the demon domain and was far from home. She does not think a mother would do that. Bringing her child to a far away and a dangerous place just to train or hunt. She choose to keep silent about this matter to Null.

"You can not control it and do not even know how to utilize it, so I locked your core a few days prior. The core is unique. You hear me out: the Overlord, or master, has the same core. It is difficult to detect, so many will not notice it, but you can sense its presence even if you can not see it. Even if others will not notice, you will be identified as a villain if you take the aptitude exam.

Even if others will not notice, you will be identified as a villain if you take the aptitude exam." Explained God of the Pathways.

"A villain? I am not hero?" Asks Null.

"When the Overlord was still a Rogue in those days, he was also identified as a villain so you wouldn't be an exemption." Anwered God of the Pathways.

"But if you don't want to be labeled as a villain, you can escape this place before your graduation. If it happened that would be a problem for you. Your situation will be like a wolf in the midst of tigers even today that already counts the situation you are in."

"I won't leave, I want to be stronger and play this game harder. This game of the Gods, I'll ruin it."Null decided to stay even he has to become the villain.

"Then teach me how to control my core!" Null hopes so.

"Your core is dangerous, if it weren't sealed I'm afraid this consciousness of mine has long been gone. It is the core of emptiness. The Overlord has long been longing ang looking for a right candidate for his core but since you made a wish not to fell any pain and was been granted that wish by God the Author you have become the right candidate for the boss having devoid of pain and emotions and become the right vessel of emptiness." Explained God of the Pathways while helping him take control of some portions of the core.

"Let me see if you can do it, okey. Now release your energy from the core." Ordered the God of the Pathways.

Then Null focused and gathered some energy from the core and release it in his hand.
