Chapter 2 - instinct

Out of it came a creature of white incredible proportions, it stood taller than a bus on its two tall animal like legs,

Its arms were so long they could touch the ground with it standing perfectly straight,

Its head, or what appeared to be its head was a perfectly oval piece of white flesh... or metal? with a single slit going all around its head.

Marion stared at the giant... thing that came out of that... other thing, and he couldn't help but be stunned, there was just something incomprehensible about this creature, something absurd,

Marion wasn't able to take his eyes off the creature, it looked too perfect to be a living creature, it was more like a piece of art, he felt it couldn't be made of flesh like he was but it didn't seem to be a machine, it was too... alive?

Marion was finally able to look around, but things didn't look the same, they seemed off, weird, crooked, incomplete.

Marion grimaced, repulsed. that was the only thing he felt, not fear, not curiosity, but repulsion, disgust, how was he able to live his life so far? in this disgusting crooked world,

Marion looked around, he saw a coworker of his, his world twisted, his stomach churned, his eyes watered, and he vomited everything that was in his stomach,

Nothing in Marion's being could take the sight of another human being, it was just so repulsive, he had to look away, to look at something complete, at the thing that came and switched his whole perception of the world, only to find it had vanished.

Silence.

For a few seconds nothing seemed to happen, which only made the screams that followed even more startling.

Screams from every which corner followed by even more white comets descending from the skies, explosions and screams, an orchestra to sound the end.

In the middle of it all Marion was still reeling from the sight he had witnessed only to be shook by someone.

"Marion snap out of it, something's happening we need to leave, it's not safe"

Marion slapped his coworker's hand away by instinct almost, just the thought of another touching him made his stomach churn, he wasn't like this, never was, but he could never see things the same after that creature.

"Sorry, you startled me"

"Yeah, it's fine, come on we need to go"

Screams continued resounding, but what made it more eerie was that all of the screams seemed to get cut off, never reaching a natural end, what was more unnerving was the fact that there was seemingly no source to these screams.

The white comets never hit buildings or people always landing where there were no humans, injuring no one, and the creature that Marion observed, nowhere to be found like it had vanished,

Marion rushed with his coworker to the stairs only to find it flooded with panicked people,

"Shit, what do we do?"

Without missing a beat Marion turns and head to the elevator,

Nobody was using the elevators, common logic was not to use elevators in emergencies, but Marion felt this specific case was different than what they were drilled in, considering the circumstances at hand,

Marion's coworker followed him,

"Marion we shouldn't be going in the elevator what if the terrorists cut the power?"

"There are no terrorist, this is different, something else, i honestly have no clue what's going on but it feels like it's all above us, never thought i'd live to see supernatural events, never believed in these kinds of things..." Marion trailed off,

He just couldn't wrap his mind around what was happening, it was all too confusing,

'let's recap, things fell out of the sky, crashed and then a white creature came out, then he dissapeared, and people started screaming, what in god's name is going on? could it really be the end? or is this some kind of attack from a terrorist group? no, no human can come up with something like that, that thing is above us, it's superior to us, what the hell is going on...'

''What the hell are you talking about? what would it be if not a terrorist attack'' The man exclaimed,

''do i look like i fucking know, this just doesn't seem like something people can do does it now Gary? just trust my instinct and do as i say'' Marion retorted.

Marion was reminded once again why he considered people variables, they always had to be convinced they can't just follow orders, they have too much self too much ego, well so did he.

The building shook, something was happening, they had to move fast.

Marion got into the elevator and pressed the ground floor button,

''quick get in what are you waiting for?''

Gary was on the fence he knew he shouldn't get on the elevator in an emergency what if he got stuck? no one would come to get him, it was basic knowledge, but then he looked at the staircase that was crammed to the brim with people pushing and crowding each other, it didn't seem like the safest choice.

But he didn't have to think much, his choice was about to be made for him,

A loud scream came from the bottom of the staircases, people froze, then the stampeding began.

''GET ON YOU MORON!'' Marion reached out and grabbed Gary by the collar dragging him into the elevator,

''Fuck, what was that man, what's going on? is it really some sort of alien attack? what if we get caught? is this the end?'' Gary was spiraling.

Marion was already regretting his decision to bring him along, but as far as people went, Gary was more submissive than most, a coward of sorts, easier to handle than others, Marion guessed he could deal with him.

The elevator seemed to be going all the way to the ground floor until it stopped on the second floor, Marion started preparing mentally for the worst, who knew what was on the other side.

The elevator opened, a woman appearing on the other side.

''Marion?Gary? Thank god you're alright, i was wondering if anyone else was going to use the elevator, i thought i was the only one who thought the staircases were too crowded, what was that noise by the way, what's happening, do you know-''

''Lina, shut up and get on,'' Marion grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and dragged her in before pressing on the ground floor button again.

Lina was a coworker of theirs that worked on a different floor, she had a tendency to blabber on and on, that's why everyone knew her, she was a gossip machine, but now Marion had to calm her down.

''Listen Lina, shut up and listen'' Marion said while grasping her by the shoulders,

Lina nodded with her lips pressed together,

''None of us know what's going on, what i do know for sure is that we need to stick together to make it out of here, there's no other way, those guys on the staircase are stuck, we need to make it out of here and into some kind of underground shelter, i think there's one nearby, understood? nod if you understand.''

Lina nodded vigorously and Marion sighed in response,

In truth Marion didn't know how much protection a shelter would give them from those things, especially now when the screams were only getting more numerous, each second made the group despair more and more.

They had finally reached the ground floor.
